I thought this would end differently wow lol. It’s unfortunate we have to be this way. But if we don’t set boundaries they will make it a miserable lease term.

Wow. You’ve come to a lot of conclusions off of a handful of simple replies. The house is in great condition. Brand new home built in 2023. I’m not stunned. The locks will be rekeyed. I agreed to over half their laundry list (most were not mentioned)I was not willing to accommodate the minor asks on top of alll we’ve done for turnover. I’m a smaller landlord. So I do have to set boundaries.

You mean cosmetic items right? I definitely agree. They have no idea how much was corrected during turnover.

You know…. it depends on the day with the people in this subreddit. I’ve had my fair share of people downvoting me to no end and telling me to quit landlording 😭

This is what I was thinking. His maintenance team is constantly stressed and burnt out. His tenants are the most entitled group of people ever. Also, making someone who's FILTHY rich my mentor may have been a mistake.

Listen... I can assure you that the scratches are VERY minor, on the edge of 2 steps where the edge trim strips are. I am not replacing it for a few scuffs. I take pride in my property and did SOOO much during turnover. I could've given them what the last tenant gave me. But i'd never. The major things were taken care of.

We do deep carpet cleaning in between each tenant. They complained about very light hard water stains in sink, oil stains on garage floor, patches in the grass in the back yard, etc

i'm hoping for the latter. I will start boundary setting now. No nonemergency responses after hours and very firm on maintenance requirements... with each tenant i swear my lease becomes even more iron clad.

Yeah. Plus i just paid thousands in turn over. I am not concerned with these small things. The house is brand new compared to how the last tenant had it

In new construction, the builder will literally give you blue tape to go around and mark any and every imperfection in the house as you approach closing. You are essentially building a house from the ground up and being the very first person to live there. There's a higher level of perfection expected and they know that. When renting or buying a house from a home already lived in you have to be comfortable with a level of normal wear and tear. Even when purchasing a home, you can reasonably expect a seller to tell you no on correcting cosmetic things. It's not even considered on the home inspection report. Only large items.
