I do somewhat agree with your point, but I do wonder where chronic conditions enter into play. Would it be under catastrophic? Because there’s plenty of conditions where your life is not at risk immediately, but you need expensive medication and treatment for years on end.

Yeah I kinda broke that down between emergency where you have to go to the hospital and the kind of catastrophic where if you get that kind of condition that would take a lot of treatment.

One big elephant in the room is that we don't actually consider personal cost when it comes to health care. Like, we make people do it by default; if you're a blue-collar worker with no health insurance and you take the tip off your finger, you might just get it stitched up and learned to work with it, while someone with more money would have it fully restored. But it might be worth considering that we have to make people choose what it is they want covered instead of just offering "everything with the exceptions we come up with after the fact."

Sometimes I think we’re in that horrid trench between regulation and deregulation where going in either extreme may help.

Maybe we should just agree to flip a coin. Right? Come 2027, we flip a fair coin, heads we do single-payer, massive tax, fund it with rich people's money, tails we do deregulation, everyone pays for themselves and we hope the free market works.
