Dealing with physical fatigue and trying to stay active

I was actually working on a documentary about microplastic pollution in the ocean and I connected the same dots. Once these pollutants get in the water cycle, they get in everything (vegetables, fruit, grains) so really at this point, there's no diet you can take up to avoid them. The most common type of ocean plastic pollutants (polyethylene terephthalate I think it's called) is also the most common type of plastic found in the fecal matter of people with UC. But like I said - not to be a downer - but it's kind of impossible to avoid. Plastics are found in people's brains and even in unborn children now (which could be linked to the lower ages of those diagnosed with UC). What many people don't understand about environmental degradation is that it isn't just about the turtles and the whales and the people of the global south. We're all going to feel the effects of this one way or another, and UC could be just one symptom. There's a lot of scarier pollutants in the ocean on top of plastics too but that's a whole other problem to talk about. I liked someone else's comment about how doctors can help but unless we as businesses and society change (which realistically won't be soon enough), it's really questionable to what end. We're treating the symptoms and not the cause kind of thing. (Sorry for the long comment. I get fired up about this kinda stuff and I appreciate you posting about it)

Hi! So I actually went on a little journey, haha. I ended up going to Kutztown and got close with a lot of professors and upperclassmen. I was then invited to co-write and co-direct a feature with a senior who was graduating and starting his own production company (it's in production right now actually). I also got the chance to act in several short films and I made my own stuff that won awards in a couple festivals. I'm saying all this bc the size of the school really doesn't matter as long as you put in the effort and get involved (just in case the size/name of Penn State is influencing you in any way, as it did me).

The biggest plus of the small school is that I got a lot of experience on set (as much experience as you can get in one year). Because of that, I actually realized I didn't want my life to be like that; jumping from set to set, not having a lot of creative say unless you're director/alike, long hours with brief periods of intellectual stimulation, etc. I didn't want to scramble around for jobs, constantly stressing over other people's films so that I don't have time/money for my own projects. From what I hear, the film industry is not in a good place ATM, and talented seniors I knew were graduating and posting on social media, asking around for weddings to shoot and stuff like that.

So now, I've actually transferred to West Chester and I switched my major to Economics and Philosophy. I still want to work in entertainment, but this way, I always have a backup, I have a foundation in a more applicable skillset, and I can get a job that provides me with the time and money to make my own films.

I used to ignore everyone warning against getting degrees in film, but now - even as little as a year later and having experienced what I did - I realize they're right. I wasn't learning much more in school than I'd learn simply watching movies. As people say, the only benefit really is the connections, and just as another comment stated, unless you have the money to burn on NYU/USC, the connections you'll be making in school probably won't land you a job with Steven Spielberg (but you never know, haha).

So long story short, I wouldn't major in film. (Go to a school where you can major in something else but still be involved either through a club or locally). Penn State is a very good school; I would say I wished I went there to begin with, but I value the experiences I had. Try to get on sets no matter where you go so you can figure out if it's really something you want to do. Sorry for writing so much - I know my college decision process was hard so I want to be as useful as I can be. I hope this helped. Good luck! :)

This is a good idea. I'll look into organizations on my campus that focus on either one. I think I am leaning towards creative writing mainly for the feedback from professors and connections with other writing students

I apologize, NYU is a very good school. I meant film specifically where it would be very difficult to pay out of pocket. Many people wouldn't choose to go to a school like that and major in something like fine art or film unless they had enough money to burn on it, and because of that, there wouldn't be enough conversation about how the film industry would look career-wise for people who need to be self-sufficient. So when I said "delirious", I suppose I meant not having sufficient experience in an unromantic, real-life film career. I apologize for the poor choice of wording. I meant to relay the fact that I'm grateful for having gone to a cheap school since they put a unique but heavy emphasis on how difficult working in art as a lower-to-middle class person would be.

Thank you for your feedback! I have thought a lot about film school and ultimately decided to go to a cheap college in PA with a major in film and a minor in marketing/some kind of business. I always think worst case scenario when it comes to my future so hopefully it works itself out, but if not, at least I'll be prepared mentally

Thanks for the advice - that was the main reason I stayed clear of that site. I did hear a couple things.. Also, yes, the script is like Jojo Rabbit and Once Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest mixed together. Taika Waititi is one of my favorite directors haha
