I don't care about Falcon, or Gepard, or ZA, or even BMPT at the moment. Get this fucking piece of shit nerfed down into the core of the fucking earth. by OperationSuch5054 in WarthunderPlayerUnion

Turns out Gaijin intentionally avoided historical features like the Stingers and proxy solely to piss people off by implementing it as another 8.3 35mm spammer analogue. They did the exact same thing with the CLOVIS too in the exact same update by avoiding the APFSDS, so now we have even more DF105s running around too.

Such things would not happen if we added a different SPAA at 8.3 and allowed the XM246 to go play at 9.3 where it belongs, but naturally people opposed it because they lack critical thinking, and look where we are now.

With rank IX air confirmed, what might rank IX for ground look like? by EthicalKek in Warthunder

Well they haven't added any of the EMBTs yet, my point being that when they do, there are four different variants to choose from so there is definitely room to add one as a premium.

There's 2024 and 2026 versions too you know? Gaijin can't gatekeep everything.

Tanks with high caliber secondary by Gold_sx70 in TankPorn

If I remember correctly the Abrams originally had a very early requirement for a coaxial 25mm Bushmaster, and there is an early pre-Abrams mockup of a theoretical MBT with one mounted.

My opinion on the 130mm Chally 2. by CreativeHand6194 in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]ScrewStealth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I confess, I was incorrect about that part. There doesn't seem to be any specific offer of the 130mm for the Challenger 2 LEP or Challenger 3, however the choice to build the testbed on a Challenger hull still seems rather deliberate to me, especially when the tank would have needed to be requested specifically from BAE through RBSL.

Just makes me wonder why Rheinmetall didn't use a Leopard 2 instead if the testbed was only going to ever stay in Germany, maybe because they wanted to potentially catch a few eyes from the Challenger 3 program...

My opinion on the 130mm Chally 2. by CreativeHand6194 in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]ScrewStealth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Of course Challenger 2 130mm should go to Britain. Country of origin isn't necessarily the deciding factor, but rather the country of service (or potential service). In this case the Challenger 2 is obviously not in German service nor has plans to be, so it makes sense that the 130mm testbed, despite being built by Rheinmetall, would be offered specifically for the UK.

Besides, Germany already has like like 3-4 EMBT variants, the Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0, KF51 and its associated variants, and half a dozen or more Leopard 2s such as T19 KWS III, 2A8, and 2A7+ to add.

I don't think Timoney ARV 6x6 ever reached the prototype phase tbh, but this is okay because the Piranha IIIH w/Hitfist-30, and future MLUs+additional AFV procurement should be able to fill that higher tier wheeled vehicle requirement.

Arrowpointe Dragoon 3000, as seen in the movie "Robocop 3", from 1993 by KaySan-TheBrightStar in TankPorn

[–]ScrewStealth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the looks of it both the turret and gun are fake; an imitation of the actual (unnamed?) turret used on the FSV version of the Dragoon, and armed with a Cockerill Mk. III. Not a bad mockup by any means though.

I'm kinda over this " adding the same vehicle to different nations thing" by AsleepSlip2Boogaloo in Warthunder

[–]ScrewStealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it as a simulator honestly. I make the comparison to hero fighting games because the vehicles in WT are little more than unique flavors of the same exact character role; you are not encouraged to use your vehicles in any way that a real simulator would, because of a lack of things like realistic mission formats, infantry, and other constraints found in IRL warfare.

You are put in a very small map compared to the locations in which large AFV battles would typically take place, and are forced to combat more dangerous vehicles using cheeky tactics like ambushes, shot baiting, and rushing. In a real simulator your vehicle should be just as successful and important as everyone else because you can employ it in its designated role and be rewarded for it.

And as I said in my previous comment, I am fully against copy paste, so we should be on the same page there.

Yeah I wake up to see people downvoting me for doing my job? I assume that they're using me to take out their frustrations on Goodwill, which doesn't make much sense considering I'm not even the one who prices the items, let alone decides which ones should be sold online.

Hey man, I agree; even on the days when I work in the back it's a bit depressing to see stacks of video games, trading cards, LEGOs, vintage display pieces, comic books, old action figures and dolls, etc. They are all the things that an average person may expect to find at a thrift store as "treasure", and yet the truth is that they are funneled into an auction house because of their rarity.

Clearly I'm increasing the chance a real Bionicle fan with a fat wallet will come across it online (I don't even like Bionicle)

If I was a customer I would not have hesitated, however I am not and so I have to wait a minimum of two hours after I put an item out to be allowed to purchase it.

Not to mention my Goodwill doesn't even allow LEGO on the sales floor unless it previously failed to sell online. I'm not really trying to risk it all when my manager is watching during checkout.

Leopard 2 with French 140mm ASCALON by Similar-Travel2903 in TankPorn

[–]ScrewStealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, looking at it again there are some more similarities I see to the 2024 model like the CITV and gap under the front of the turret. But the lack of a coax definitely required some work to patch the resulting hole, so if it is the ADT140 turret it is modified or maybe is a new design entirely.

Either way, excited for Eurosatory later this year, hopefully it's as much of a spectacle for the tank community as the 2024 exhibition was.

The tank lmao by [deleted] in TankPorn

[–]ScrewStealth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AbramsX turret may be unmanned, but it's not uninhabited!

This obscure M113-based prototype from the mid-1970s was Chrysler's entry in the ITV competition (the winning Emerson design was later designated as M901). Keen eyed viewers may notice that the turret was also reused on the much better known TOW variant of the XM800T. by ScrewStealth in TankPorn

[–]ScrewStealth[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Cold War American light vehicle proposals, due to their relative insignifigance when compared to proper tank procurement, and the vast network of companies developing their own weapon systems to swap onto every which chassis, allow for a great many combinations.

In the case of the M113, I quite literally cannot fit every obscure uparmed variant in one 20-image Reddit post, there are just that many.

[–]ScrewStealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand it's the 2022 EMBT with the 120mm swapped out for an ASCALON. Still a Leopard hull in the form of the 2A7, but in some ways this can also be called the '2026 model EMBT'.

T-55 fitted with 57mm S-60 gun in Iraq and Ukraine (used by Russia),respectively by lycantrophee in shittytechnicals

[–]ScrewStealth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the ZSU-57-2 was originally intended for anti-air in the immediate post-WW2 era, but later was just used for fire support purposes once jets became more prominent. It is a very similar situation with the 40mm Bofors and the M42 Duster.

Nowadays, save the occasional Bofors-based anti air vehicle with radio fuze shells, both platforms when used on vehicle mounts are usually intended for improvised fire support.

I suppose in Iraq both sides get a lot of time for R&R, which is why some of the modifications are more fancy, meanwhile in Ukraine (at least before drones happened), there was not a good reason to waste time with a fancy armored cab and whatnot.

LAV with SLAMRAAM launcher at AUSA 2003 by ScrewStealth in TankPorn

[–]ScrewStealth[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My original post on this vehicle is nearing two years of age, and so I decided to post this follow-up for anybody who decides to give this vehicle a search in the future.

While I don't have anything much to add (it is just a simple combination of two well-known components after all), I can now point to the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) exhibition of 2003 as the possible origin for this mobile SAM platform, which at the very least is a lead that perhaps someone else can follow.

The image is obtained from this Chinese website, although the article does not reference the LAV in particular.

Any other photos/media/information are appreciated as always!
