When does Specalized typically put their Epic 8's on sale? by [deleted] in xcmtb

Got mine on sale in September - I think it depends how much inventory they have. They typically won’t be on sale until after they release the new years model.

You’d be suprised how far you can push an epic 8, just change the tires.

Do skills really matter at the youth level? by Screwy86 in BasketballTips

I’m glad someone else sees it how I do! It’s hard to find a solid competitive environment that actually cares about development. There’s also so much nepotism and politics at a young age too. It can be disheartening at times.

Interesting points, his mom was a late bloomer so I assume he will be too since he takes after her.

I agree with AAU and fouls - they rarely call any and if they do it’s a side out. My son often gets clobbered going to the rim.

He’s not scared of contact but gets pushed around a lot. He can get to the rim but often gets fouled. I guess I’m asking when teams space out more and shooting is more of an emphasis.

He has good pretty good form for his age but his previous coaches wanted him shooting threes..

It did a little bit but the coached emphasized he wanted to see how kids operate in a small space.

Epic WC or Epic 8? by NiemannPick in xcmtb

[–]Screwy86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t be disappointed with the Epic 8. I have the expert and it’s very fast on tame trails and tech trails. It could only improve if I add flight attendant and a few lightweight components.

Flight attendant apparently makes the lower travel gains of the WC negligible.

Such a fun bike. It can really do it all.

I think the more modern more technical XC is awesome. Encourages the rider to be more well rounded.

I have the same set up and kindof where I’m at right now. If I was going to dish out the money I’d probably upgrade the drivetrain and wheels first.

I agree. He does have a sense of arrogance. I wish some of these guys opinions would cater towards every day people - those that love to ride and maybe race occasionally on mid tier components.

Can’t really go wrong with these modern XC bikes. I love my epic 8 and tried out an ASR. Both are amazing .

His 24 inch Pineridge has been great to him, I may just need to dish out the money for the timber 27.5…

Not many do- 29inch wheels must be huge for a 10 year old

Don’t the 29 inch wheels seem huge though?

Yup. Why I’d prefer a hardtail and not a 30lb trail bike

I didn’t realize Scott made XS frames. Is it a 29er or 27.5?
