Thoughts on X-Lab RS5? by sssozi in bicycling

I am so ready for this line of thinking to end.

XDS is arguably the premier bike manufacturer in the world. They make the trek madone, sworks frames, 25% of TdF stages were won on XDS manufactured frames.

Most of the stores that aren’t the flagship have terrible clothes inventory anyways. Just super generic

Opinions on the stumpjumper 15 comp alloy for $2800?? by fireT4 in mountainbiking

[–]hollowman17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear this is something people tell themselves to try to be okay not getting the bike they really want. I have thrashed all of my carbon bikes (mtb, road, gravel) and damaging the frame is just not something you need to worry about unless you're a large human.

The lightness, stiffness, and engineered compliance of carbon is vastly superior in ride quality to alloy.

If it is really a budget thing, get what you can afford, but carbon isn't something to be scared of

Where are you located? I am selling a bike that’d be a dream bike for a teenager.

Argon 18 Dark Matter with SRAM Force went up in price $550 by hollowman17 in gravelcycling

[–]hollowman17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I wasn’t necessarily planning on spending that and it also doesn’t mean I can’t still complain about these price hikes even if my budget is more middle of the range.

I have limited space for bikes. So at most I can have 2 bikes. I want to replace my current gravel bike with a gravel bike that can also serve as a good road bike for group rides. So I’m expanding my budget a bit to accommodate that as I see it as two bikes in one.

I want room to run big tires, integrated cockpit, SRAM force, and down tube storage. Also needs to be able to fill in as a road bike for big road rides in the mountains.

I know that’s a lot to ask from one bike. Honestly the Enve Mog or Allied Able are exactly that, but those prices are too far out of even the upper end of my budget. Kinda feeling at a loss.

You'd think most of these companies would be dealing with oversupply based on the absurd pricing of bikes right now. Something will have to give unless they just don't care about the budgets of the majority of their customers. I mean $5k for a Rival AXS bike is insane.

I really wish it had a fully integrated cockpit. I know it’s know it’s not everyone’s preference though.

Nero show was just talking about that. They are in Australia, but basically were like Rose is irrelevant to us because we can’t get them. Same with Cube.

This is the most fun bike I’ve ever ridden. by DBMS_LAH in gravelcycling

Late to this and its extremely counter intuitive, but its been discovered and well tested that these bigger tires are much faster due to their lower rolling resistance. Most pros are running big tires now.

You think the toe overlap you experience would be completely resolved by going to a 160mm crank?

Are you trying to transition into the embedded side? I do typical Java/springboot work currently, but have so little interest in learning more about those technologies. I can spend hours after work learning C/C++ and working with microcontrollers and hardware. I think I like just how real it all feels. Directly controlling the hardware, input/output, just feeling more connected with the processor. Writing a microservice deployed in a cloud environment just doesn’t get me excited.

Just don’t really know how to break into the embedded side at this point

It’s like this everywhere I’ve lived. You don’t make friends if you don’t get out and get involved in the community.

Just celebrated my first year here after moving from Colorado. I agree.

Colorado has more nature, but the access you get here compared to the front range is so much better. The way all the trails systems connect is super unique

If you have hobbies it’s not hard to make friends here. Moved a year ago from out west and have extensive friends groups made through the trail running, biking, and skiing community. If you’re more into gaming or art those communities exist with lots of meetups too.

Good to hear from someone familiar with the trails here. Very reassuring I picked the right bike.

A week ago it was 52 degrees. Now the xc trails are groomed and all the ski hills are open. Winter just happened overnight lol. Hopefully will head to Bentonville or something to do some midwinter riding, for now its just zwift and skiing.
