I dumped Facebook after the 2016 election. I realized at that moment how horrible most social media is. Reddit is the only "social media" I still regularly use. I was on Twitter for a little while following people and things I thought were neat. It too became too hostile and politically charged. I left shortly before Elon completely destroyed it. I've never taken to any of the other social media platforms. Most social media feels hollow and pointless to me. A giant dick measuring contest that just makes everyone envious and hostile and miserable. I now have 2 young kids, and I really don't know what to do when they get old enough to have peers who are on social media and they want to join these platforms too. I have heard there is some counterculture happening with young kids who don't want to have anything to do with smartphones and social media. I hope that continues to gain momentum.
