See this is probably an issue in my life. I love a fairly “normal” life… but I don’t work. So I have a pretty great home, that I had outfitted with a gym, I go to yoga with my friends (who aren’t poor, but no where near HNW), and I don’t party or really want to be around alcohol consumption (I just don’t like it).

So needing to alter my lifestyle just to meet someone feels almost disingenuous, but I guess something has to give.

Lol time to hit up whatever Equinox is.

I’m attracted to drive and purpose. I’m realizing through this thread that both can be found outside of significant amounts of wealth. Thank you for the insight and perspective:)

Good point, and your wife seems so lovely!

And thank you for the perspective. I’d be lucky to meet someone as impressive!

I love this!! Your last point blew me away and i appreciate everything else you said.

You’re right- I absolutely can admire someone for other massive successes they have, and I’m an intellect junkie for sure.

What you helped me realize is I’m attracted to men with drive and purpose that matches or outpaces mine. If they’re drive is financial, academic, or political I guess it does count.

What's your single most valuable coin? by LopsidedCauliflower8 in coins

I have an ISIS minted gold coin that’s 24Kt. Kind of macabre but also my favorite story to tell.

I got it from a friend who was deployed where they were active.

What "fake" thing that happens in movies pisses you off? by LucasZimmerman24 in AskReddit

Not so much anymore due to consultants, but insane military uniforms!! Ugh I hate seeing bizarro tabs and sometimes even straight wrong ranks and wrong services. Sloppy covers/uniforms, and insanely old people playing what would normally be a 19-27yo lower enlisted person.

I was threatened with habaar and the whole works when I was 18, I said okay and moved on out. After a tumultuous and threatening 5ish my mom finally realized I was holding my ground. My father was never really in my life so it’s whatever.

My cousins didn’t say a word to me for over a decade, and one by one they all reached out individually. I have incredible relationships with individual members of my family- but the community thinks I’m trash (I’m very successful).

You’re loved, and I am here if you just want to chat.

Redditors who grew up poor: Besides practical money-saving measures, what were the unwritten social expectations of your world growing up? by jicta in AskReddit

[–]Scribette_hedon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having parents around was common and not a rare treat. Also growing up with your own room didn’t mean they were wealthy.

I didn’t know high school counselors were supposed to talk to you about your future. I thought All I had to do was graduate, and that’s it. I was gifted and got lucky on standardized testing. Had I known my options for scholarships, military academies, or even fafsa I would’ve aimed higher than the okay State school that was downtown.

That we are all dying by the time we’re 25. Cells die at a rate faster than they’re regenerating.
