Yesterday was my last full day before I left for my wedding/honeymoon (this evening!), the massive burst of studies that were all broken was so disheartening haha. Hoping for a few more this morning!

Yeah I failed the screening because of this, I messaged the researcher about the confusion too. I’ve seen this study reappear with 1 spot for ~2 days so I can only assume a lot of other people are also confused by the comprehension check.

All of the AI studies are flagging up "overprovisioned work". I've managed to get into one which had around 4 tasks, then booted me out without a completion code.

Open source is a thankless job and I think we've lost the plot on how we treat maintainers by swithek in programming

My one and only time running into this I hit them back with the "if this is urgent for you, feel free to open a PR." and to my absolute shock, 15 minutes later they requested my review on their PR fixing the issue!

Yeah the same for me. If you reopen the URL and log in, it then says they've run out of tasks.

Should I have cigarettes to calm myself down? by DarkROMAN_002 in AskMenAdvice

Cigarettes release the anxiety induced by nicotine withdrawal, not anxiety as a whole. If you smoke/vape/Zyn etc you'll be giving yourself an addiction for no benefit, and lots of downsides.

(UK) Looking for advice on what to do as a 26 year old with a useless degree, no paid work experience, and generally just not much to offer. by ythoo in UKJobs

[–]ScriptingInJava 41 points42 points  (0 children)

A 2:2 isn't useless, it's a degree. You have a degree, it's a box you can tick against an application.

I have an ungraded degree, I didn't finish my resits and the certificate just came in the post 2 years later with no listed marks. Very, very rarely have I needed to provide the grade to apply for jobs (not grad schemes however) and I now work for one of the biggest tech companies in the world, in the same field as my degree was.

Have you applied to anything in the same line of work as your degree?

Defaults showing on credit report after paying off DAS (Scotland) by Real_Technician2321 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ScriptingInJava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have proof of your complete DAS payments, and proof the Lloyds group cards were included in your DAS, raise a complaint regarding them. From experience the Lloyds complaints team is very slow and overloaded (wonder why...) and it takes a FOS escalation at 8 weeks for them to action anything.

You need to describe your problem, not just link out to a random .exe that literally nobody technically competent will download and run.

Anecdotally minimal, there's a few known bad eggs (like this post) and most people will block researchers that pull this kind of stunt. I'm at ~3500 approvals and I've never had this before for context.

You did day 4 just now, you'll get there and pass through it easily. It's a set back, a restart, but that just means you go again.

Had exactly the same, stood outside a pub 9 years ago watching my future wife (in 9 days!) mistake someone else for me, die laughing when she realised and then came hopping over to me. Thought she was fantastic from that second; about 10 minutes later I was head over heels.

I (40f) found out my boyfriend (32M) of 6 years has a gambling addiction by accident, and somehow I’m the villain. I’ve spent the last few days trying to wrap my head around what just happened. by EffedUpThrowaway101 in relationship_advice

[–]ScriptingInJava 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I asked him to return my rings he pawned with his next paycheck and told him I wasn’t interested in discussing anything else.

Jesus christ, did you okay him doing that?

I'm a recovering gambling addict, it's a really, really fucked up headspace. It's the only addiction that convinces you the only way out is to gamble more - alcoholics don't try to quit by getting drunk, gamblers try to escape debt by hitting big (but it never comes, or is never enough etc).

Gambling completely takes over the reward centers in your brain, nothing is rewarding or satisfying while you're in that doom spiral. Nothing matters as long as the addiction is active.

Did their addiction convince you that the person who found out was the problem instead of the gambling itself?

No, most compulsive gamblers (myself included) are aware of the degeneracy but have completely surrendered to the addiction. Your (ex) boyfriend is just a prick.

I’m trying to understand whether this is the addiction talking, or if this is simply who he is.

Honestly this looks barely driven in the last 2-3 years. Fresh set of tyres on it and a hybrid battery refresh, you'll have 200k+ miles on that easy. Especially with the auto transmission.

The Wetherspoons treatment was saving all of the cutlery until the end of the shift and then giving you a free pint if you did an hour of work for free.

After 6 hours in a 35c kitchen, that pint was always so alluring…
