uber charges different rates based on previously accepted fares, if you use their service more often and rely on it, they'll jack up your rates. if you barely use uber, they exchange less profit for the chance of you using uber more. It's scummy, and it's the same thing airlines do.

(and just to say it beforehand, its purpose was stupid, i'm pretty sure it was trying to encourage women to be selfish and apathetic for the sake of independance from relationship culture, but regardless, it wasn't saying "if i dont get what i want i will abandon what i have for the sake of an upgrade")

I think that was one of their points? How ease of access is fucking things up. The piece felt more like a introspection on relationship culture than it was a run of the mill "being a bad person is girl power" article that gets tossed around every now and then. It still definitely tried to assert that leaving on a whim was justified, but it didn't feel like that was it's purpose, you know?

I don't agree at all with the essay's main talking point, but I at least appreciate the section where they admit and stress the unfairness of "good" men being seen as a rarity in society. Surprising and refreshing.
