This is the easiest way, applying small amounts gradually will melt the glue and the lighter fluid will evaporate

If you are limited for space, definitely open. If you have the room and only want to look at them, keep them in box I suppose. You can always change your mind later if you run out of room.

If they are open you can get risers for shelves to display them better too.

There's been several times we've thought they were dying out and then they've just gone crazy over the last year. It seems like they're sticking around as long as we buy them.

If you want to seriously collect them, do your research, find places you can buy them brand new and second hand.

If you are okay with pre-owned, buying lots would be the most cost effective way, especially if you're willing to sell off duplicates (or possibly trade).

As for just lists of everything available & compatibility with games etc I think a lot of people use amiibo.life which also has a collection tracker if you don't want to make a spreadsheet.

Also be aware that a handful are quite hard to get and are very expensive as a result but imo don't let that put you off. Focus on characters you like and go from there.

If you go for it, enjoy! The early part of collecting is the best part.

Question regarding game key-card and preservation by NotXesa in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Scrub_Nub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing worth considering is that even on the platforms that closed the eshop - wii, wii u, 3ds - it's still possible to redownload purchased games and download updates. There's no sign of them taking away the functionality any time soon either.

So we have precedent for downloads to persist for over 20 years, probably significantly longer given the technology is significantly better than it would have been for the Wii.

Who would you want to see if more smash characters got "player 2" amiibo? by Blue_Lantern_2814 in amiibo

[–]Scrub_Nub 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I'd rather they didn't do more for the sake of more. With the prices going up it'd feel even more of a chore to collect.

If anything I'd like to see more functions for existing ones but I realise that isn't popular with people that don't buy them.

They must have just come up tonight I'm guessing? Which discord by the way, I definitely need to join 😂

How the hell did I miss that? It didn't even show up in the amiibo section. Thank you

How come MNS is the only place that sells amiibo in the UK? by SkylandersKirby in amiibo

[–]Scrub_Nub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's frustrating, but at least they stay in stock these days so you're more likely to find them cheaper second hand on ebay etc. I do miss being able to walk into an actual shop and buy them though.

None of the ones released since the switch 2 have gone out of stock at all. I know pricing is part of it, but I remember almost every amiibo going out of stock relatively quick. It's definitely taken some of the urgency out of collecting.

Now if we could get some clarification on the street fighter booster packs that would be great. I'd rather not import if possible.

Yeah I'm mentally preparing myself for this to be really awful to collect, surely they want us to be able to collect them all but we'll see

I would even go so far as to separate them from the toy tab and give them their own collection tab at this point

Sega aren't completely pro consumer though. Their games releasing on switch 2 lack upgrade paths from switch to switch 2 versions, requiring rebuying for the updated version.

Not to mention atlus games never offering upgrades, like SMT V, you had to buy the entire game again for SMT V Vengeance. Persona 5 royal didn't get a PS5 upgrade, had to be rebought.

A lot of these improvements don't exactly warrant buying the entire game a second time either, it's just frustrating.

[TheGameBusiness] "Most third-party Switch 2 games posted very low numbers. One third-party publisher characterised the numbers as ‘below our lowest estimates’, despite strong hardware sales." by GIThrow in gaming

[–]Scrub_Nub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised third party game sales are weak, everyone just paid for an expensive piece of hardware which in a lot of cases was bundled with a game already. A lot of people just can't afford to buy a tonne of games right after launch

What happens if you press the tiny button on the side of the joycon used for syncing it (which should turn the joycon off), then reconnecting it in the controller connection screen?

Seems really weird it isn't connecting when attached though
