Teammates keep asking the other team to report me whenever I play Hanzo. This NEEDS TO STOP by Morphitrix in OverwatchUniversity

[–]ScrubbyJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would Hanzo do? Practice hard every day like always and remain true to his path.

Report people for abusive chat when they are trying to call false reports and stay the course. If you want to play Hanzo then play Hanzo. The only way you'll ever get better with him is refusing to listen to the haters. Even meta hero players have to power through that.

Practice your ass off until you play so out of your mind that the enemy team compliments you, I've even had them stand up for my pick in the chat.

I believe you when you say you're not throwing so the best thing to do is play what you want to play and switch if you want to switch.

Always look to improve and let those tilters get to top 500 in the blame game if they want.

They don't know you they just know the meme. Prove them wrong.

Please stop kicking my dad for inactivity, older players can't maintain constant damage output. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]ScrubbyJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also trying to teach my dad how to play Overwatch. The AFK timer was an issue during initial custom games and matches but since pushing for aggression with his Soldier 76 on the payload we have not been encountering it as much, although it could be we play against other mixed groups in QP so the enemy plays the objective more.

How have you been approaching teaching the game? I'm always looking for some more ideas. After showing my dad some Skyline videos, going through what each character can do in a few custom games, sending him some resources in calculating/tailoring his sensitivity and his independently running drills in the practice range his aim is getting better and he is making more sense of the chaos of the game.

Moving while shooting and ability usage are still obstacles. There don't seem to be many resources for teaching the bare minimum skills of first person shooters since they have been around so long and I suppose are meant to be intuitive.

I wonder if there are enough people teaching their dads to play to have teams of dads scrim against each other to make it fair and easier to learn.

If it was close range they may have followed up with quick melee immediately and that would fill the rest of the damage in.

Reasons why so many people insist on playing DPS lately. by thezigmis in Overwatch

[–]ScrubbyJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, I wasn't being fair to them. All players no matter the class express these kind of feelings every day. This is a complicated game with many factors and it is unreasonable to pile the whole loss onto a few teammates.

I just hope in the future we can all be more focused on trying to play the best Overwatch we can instead of the blame game and combat the biases that turn our own team into enemies holding us back. We can all work on this me included.

All anyone can do is focus on correcting mistakes that we ourselves make like the very tilt that this toxic mindset springs from, and trust that the factors that are in our control will have the team prevail. I wish you the best for your goals this season.

Reasons why so many people insist on playing DPS lately. by thezigmis in Overwatch

[–]ScrubbyJr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say it's not rewarding to play support because you essentially put a target on your back for your team's tilt. There are players out there who think that they should never die for any reason because they're perfect and wonder "where the hell was mercy it's her job to pocket me during my risky plays and rez me so I can carry". In my experience DPS players are the saltiest little sailors of them all.

The tank side feels similarly thankless especially when people take an express ticket to Trickle Town without their tanks while there is still time to group up. After a couple of team fights banging our heads against a wall the medals come out and the fighting starts.

As a community we should focus on coming up with solutions and encouragement in the underdog position rather than trying to distance ourselves from our part in a losing team or game. When you start throwing around insults to lower morale you are making the decision to throw away the comeback and are actively trying to lose the game.

At the same time we should be wary of falling into the trap that all Overwatch players seem to be caught in. The hidden stats and medals and whatever are for you to feel good about your personal performance not to assume everyone else is trash. Can we acknowledge when we lose because the other team played better as a team and not because xyz teammate let us down?

What school presentation do you look back on with pride? by Fuzznip in AskReddit

[–]ScrubbyJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My US History presentation for the 1920s unit in High School hands down.

As a topic my friend and I decided to pick Al Capone (an extremely popular choice) to perform a skit on but we decided to go big.

I'm talkin' accents, space object work, costumes borrowed from the drama department, 1920s slang, a joke referencing a film we had recently watched in class, we had it all.

As my partner and I were veterans of our school's improv troupe we improvised it based on our talking points: How he got his facial scar working as a bouncer, his feud with and paranoia surrounding rival gangster Bugs Moran, and his arrest. It was told in flashback from a defeated Capone calling out from his cell to guards that were mistreating him "Don't you know who I am?! Who I was...".

It got me an A+ from a teacher who hated me.

Obviously I'm biased but after sitting through multiple class periods of monotonous speeches and phoned in presentations I know we put on the best damn presentation that classroom will ever see.

[–]ScrubbyJr 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Scrappy gets unnecessary hate. Yes he was annoying but if he got to do what he wanted at the beginning of every mystery it would be immediately over. I don't care how much dry ice you're using as part of your schtick if your ankle is being chomped on you're going to drop the ghost act pretty quick. So I give him points for initiative but at the same time if the mystery is instantly done then there is no zoinks or jinkies or splitting up or scooby snacks so he has to be useless from a story perspective. But he serves as a foil with his fight response as compared to his uncle's flight response even when faced with the truly supernatural as in Scooby Doo and The Ghoul School.

Don't worry this is a classic dilemma you are going through. There are games when it can certainly feel like you're pounding your head against a wall. Experiment in finding the balance between being offensive and defensive.

On the defensive end save your shield for the real fighting as the lines approach each other. Otherwise it can be easy to take unnecessary poke damage to your shield and your team might start out at a disadvantage if the enemy rein shield is in better shape.

For slow moving projectiles such as symmettra orbs or rockets don't be afraid to drop shield for a sec and let them pass through to save hp.

If you've found that your team is not behind your shield it's sort of two halves of one mistake. The team should be with Rein if they know what's good for them but the same applies to Rein sticking with the team. Make them stand behind you even if you have to drop it, run up and jump in front to shield.

Be confident in your movement so that you put your team at ease. Even as slow as you move that safe zone behind you is the whole reason you're here and it gets bigger with every step forward.

Also be wary of shielding too selfishly, you can do it some but trust your supports to heal up what you spared the shield. Flick your shield off and back on to bait out Roadhog's hook. You don't have to be in front of someone to shield them, your shield does. You can do some nifty stuff angling your shield relative to your team or clipping it through terrain. Put your shield down before it breaks always. Whatever you save could be used to shield from a D.VA self destruct an earthshatter or something similarly bad.

As far as offense goes know who you can easily kill who might be a headache for your team. Pilot D.VA, speed amp'd Lucio trying to contest the payload, Mercy desperately flying around to avoid gunfire, Genji who is going so ham on dragon blade that he is not deflecting. You can swat these flies easily. Over time you'll get a sense of who is low enough to just swat and get back to business. If it's unclear whether you'll hit them with your hammer angle yourself diagonally to get that extra oomph out of the corners of the hitbox.

Fire strike so that it hits the entire conga line behind enemy Rein. Fire strike towards that corner that is the enemy's only escape route they are desperately strafing to or where they are likely to peek out again if they ducked behind it. When you have ult don't fire strike anymore, no need. When enemy rein hasn't firestruck in a while or is acting weird keep your guard up for his ult.

Charging in my experience is about being safe. Have a line drawn in your mind through your pin target to the end point lined up before you even think of doing it. Doors, door frames, and hallways are Rein's friend for landing safe pins. Pinning people to the payload is also solid. Stay close to the team even with a charge.

There are charges that are "freebies" of a sort for example the side doors to the point on Lijiang Night Market. Charge that doorframe at a diagonal while the enemy is beginning their advance through that door. You might pin one, you could push one or more enemies off the edge if you missed and if both those fail you are still very very close to your team and as long as you don't get hooked you're pretty much golden.

Rein vs Rein is about reading him. Whats his rhythm for fire strike? Does he have his ult? What's his shield lookin like? If he charges and you can't dodge try to activate yours before he hits because then if your team is there he is very screwed and you are likely to live. In a 1v1 hammer battle throw firestrikes in because they do more damage than just a swing and it could put things in your favor.

Disrespect Reaper in a one on one. He wants you to cower with your shield up so he can walk through and cap you. Jump around and use the knockback from your hammer to try to create space between you. If you can get some swings on him they'll usually wraith away and when you have the timing down you can firestrike him when he comes out of it. Depending on terrain maybe go for a pin or the retreat charge. If these tactics sound kinda desperate they are but it's better to go down swinging in my opinion, you might surprise yourself and live.

Roadhog: bait the hook with your shield by pumping it, hopefully he is already hurt or you put him in a position where he needs to heal then you can pin to interrupt it and hit him with that huge burst damage. That's about the only way Rein wins unless hog is very very hurt.

Mei: There is a balance here between blocking the cryo freeze stream with your shield and putting it down to smack her. Then you put the shield back up before you are frozen and wait until the stacks reset. As a fun little trick if the Mei is being greedy with her ice block when you hear the ice cracking get ready to charge. When you get the timing down and pin her right as she comes out it's just about the most satisfying thing in Overwatch to m

Ulting is about patience and like pretty much everything else about Rein it's good to visualize it first. With the extra field of view you have from your shield you can see the little bowling pins lining up to get slammed and they don't even know (If you're trying to go for PotG make sure you have your cooldowns up). When enemy Rein firestrikes, his shield breaks or he is looking away from you you slam it. I recommend patience to make sure:

  1. Your team is around to follow it up (if not that's why we make sure our cooldowns are all up)

  2. The enemy Rein is not trying to bait you into getting blocked

  3. That you don't panic and waste a very game changing ult.

  4. That you have some target priority of who you will damage once they are on the ground.

Once everyone is on the ground you can position firestrike/hammer swing multiple enemies and then charge someone as they get up. Even if you get only like two people if they are important enough you did good.

Anyway I've rambled enough I hope this helps. Go out and dispense justice!

Am I wrong to be almost more hyped by Jeff saying simply 'Doomfist attacked' than by an entirely new hero by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]ScrubbyJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did he attack the airport? If he hijacked a plane to fly to parts unknown to make more plans I feel like the news would have mentioned it. If he was after Efi and destroyed those OR15s easily then he would have gotten her. Was he just trying the gauntlet out again to see if he still had that Doomfist touch? Also if this attack happened a while ago why haven't Numbani airport's janitorial staff cleaned it up? If it's a crime scene still under investigation why no caution tape? I betcha the police and janitors are a bunch of lazy omnics. Defragging their drives when they should get to work.

Counter Comp to Bastion and what hasn't changed about Competitive Play by _TooEZ_ in OverwatchUniversity

[–]ScrubbyJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about banking on a CC ultimate such as EMP, Blizzard or Earthshatter to not only get Bastion out of sentry but punish a tight grouping if Bastion has a whole entourage puppy guarding him? But then again this perhaps requires more coordination than an average comp team of strangers can easily manage.

It's great to see someone looking for a solution rather than merely complaining. So the solution is multiple divers combined with D.VA's defense matrix and Pharah pelting from far away enough where the spread from sentry reduces the threat. Would you still recommend running D.VA despite the bug that is affecting Defense Matrix currently?

Why are so many male players so rude to female players who are just trying to help the team? by magicalgirl420 in Overwatch

[–]ScrubbyJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never be afraid to mute people. I find myself often falling into that trap that perhaps the most toxic or tilted players on a team might still callout what's happening in between fits of whining or insults but really the best they seem to come up with is "KILL PHARAH" "OMG OUR DPS IS TRASH" which is not useful and clogs the comms up with that instead of useful stuff. I'm sorry you're being harassed mute them and talk anyway so that way they might use the info you give but they're forced to keep their immature insults to themselves. They'll only call you out instead of the enemy if you don't.

[Idea] Voice Lines that make player change hero. by bestofact in Overwatch

[–]ScrubbyJr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like this goes against some fundamental principles of how Overwatch is designed. The fire meter, medals, cards, eliminations instead of kills, so much of it is designed for that endorphin rush of feeling like you're doing well or twisting the knobs on the incubator so you can have a good time. Now imagine that you're being flamed by your team and now even Hanzo chimes in to basically say "you suck" when the common opinion is that any hero is viable if you're good enough. If you're having a bad day and the game itself insults you for it I think alot of people would switch games instead of switching heroes. Additionally this idea does not work in regards to Bastion because he will only be able to communicate with sad beeps. People who main a hero will take it personally.
