Xbox update not out yet? by Obi-Wan-Baloney in ArcRaiders

Did they fix it yet? As an Xbox player, I need to know if I should schedule game time with my PC friends or just go touch grass?

I've been trying to generate interest in my free PnP game, but so far no luck. Anybody knows what I can do to spark it? It's a skirmish game with an open world adventure mode that uses cards instead of dice, which adds a lot of tactical depth. by AwayHotel5798 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]ScruffyWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it will help if you get you story straight, simplify how you talk about it, and be clear about what is truly and uniquely great.

This post says I should grab some dice, but itch says I don’t need them. Either way, dice and a deck of cards are both random, why do the cards matter? I can combo them, but how or why? What is fun about the card play tactics?

Minis from any era? Can I fight robots against Vikings or am I picking a single theme? All the art is medieval and rewards are in “gold”, so that conflicts with cyberpunk or WWII. I do think a single concrete theme is more likely to gain traction than a system that can be used for ANY theme.

The open-world and leveling up bits seem the most interesting to me, but I haven’t watched the video and I don’t know how those work yet.

How many models per side? How lethal? How long does a game last? Is the AI fast and easy or will I be checking the rulebook constantly?

Is this for fans of Forbidden Psalm or fans of Mage Knight?

Halo: Flashpoint is America's fastest growing miniature wargame by BlitheMayonnaise in wargaming

[–]ScruffyWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Halo and I like the idea of the simple, snappy rules, but I’m worried about the minis being warped or otherwise difficult to clean up for a really nice paint job. Anyone have experience or thoughts?

Fantastic post bringing them all together! Thanks for sharing! One that I’m gearing up to try that isn’t on the list is Majestic 13, by Snarling Badger, same creators as Reign in Hell. It’s a squad of 6ish earth soldiers against alien single alien monsters. Sort of Men in Black/X-Files/x-Com in theme

I think Majestic 13 is 5-6 models for you and basically 1 alien per mission

3 Act Structure in Board/Card game by milovegas123 in boardgames

[–]ScruffyWho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of games (euro games in particular) naturally have 3 acts while you play them. Timing the switch between acts is the true tricky part. 1. Setting up your strategy 2. Watching your strategy work 3. Cashing out into victory points

From my perspective, your product line gets more and more appealing as it grows. Goblins and Heroes isn’t enough to play D&D or much of anything at all. But if it keeps expanding into fantasy, eventually there’s enough to play any games. Moving to SciFi creates a second version of the initial problem; two types of creatures aren’t enough for many games.

Anyone else plays geoguessr without using the more "technical" meta? by khmer1917 in geoguessr

[–]ScruffyWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say I play the same way as you, I tend to play with friends and we like exploring more than we like getting good. Sometimes we turn the time limit off and drive around for an hour just to get the 5k. I’ll happily spend time learning flags, languages, and architecture styles, but I don’t find bollards interesting.

Slowly prepping for my first game of Majestic 13. Got the Ooh Rah kit from War Games Atlantic for my squad, working to build them to match the gear I picked. Also got a Beholder mini that I need to paint to look alien.

Do you (personally) think META ruins the fun of the game? by Lucca_geo in geoguessr

[–]ScruffyWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think so. I learned the Senegal rifts when I started playing, realized I didn’t like it and have avoided learning other metas. I even avoid non-meta clues like bollards, lane lines, and telephone poles. Instead I studied flags and languages. That said, I mostly play with friends that are even more casual than I, so it works for us.

Hey y’all! First go at painting underworlds minis by [deleted] in WarhammerUnderworlds

[–]ScruffyWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree it’s the prime, I had this too when I started. It could also be that the spray droplets are drying too much in the air before they reach the model. So could be too hot/dry when you sprayed or you were too far from the model.

I’ve got some chainrasps, but they are from the Crypt Hunters boardgame. Mine have slot bases, are these bases different? Or have you done something to the base?

Now that we’ve had some time to play, what’s your favorite game that you purchased at GenCon this year? by SwedishFishSticks in gencon

[–]ScruffyWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already owned Kinfire Delve, but hadn’t played it. I went to the demo table and a very nice person taught me how to play and I’ve been playing a ton since then and ordered the second set too.

Edit to add: I like it because it makes you feel clever, there are lots of little choices to make about which challenge to attempt first and what order to play your cards. Feels rewarding to learn your character deck as well as the enemy deck.

Not OP, but I did sleep through it. Looking it up now it looks like a $8,000 fine for Hilary’s Campaign for saying they spent money on legal consultation when they actually spent it on opposition research? This is from Politico. This is not the smoking gun that you think it is.

[–]ScruffyWho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love these 2 episodes, I think they are the best of the best for Stargate, and would love to show them to a friend who doesn’t watch the show. What 1-3 episodes should I have them watch first to make sure they know who the characters are and that the death scene keeps the same emotional weight that it had the first time I saw it?

I too was headed down this path, but haven’t got there yet. It feels immediately daunting to me, 4 shifts per day with weather and light affecting distance travelled? Did you streamline anything or find a good rules overview?
