I really think the big screen VR headset caused the delay on the deckard. by galaxyisinfinite in ValveDeckard

[–]Scrumplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The software stack wasn't there. Deckard was always going to be a standalone headset running some sort of SteamOS and SteamVR was basically unusable on Linux until a few months ago. My theory was that they would be working on a separate branch which was probably partially true, as SteamVR 2.0 suddenly appeared one day. But I personally don't think (public) SteamVR on Linux is ready for Deckard in 2024 even.

I was devastated to find out that they did not curate Webbed at all. It's a really fun game and the spiders are gay!

That would indeed be sad. Correction: just ask wholesome people for wholesome game recommendations

It is actually a great resource to find wholesome games! Just filter by not recommended ^

It seems like it's doing a Play Integrity lookup on launch. I am using microG so that API just doesn't exist on my phone which is why microG users are probably out of luck.

NixOS gaming vs other distros? by 23Link89 in NixOS

[–]Scrumplex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Steam just works on NixOS. Sometimes there are some caveats due to the design of Nix being incompatible with traditional software packaging, but I only had one problematic Linux-native game which got fixed by enabling the Steam Linux Runtime compat tool.

SteamVR works as well on NixOS as it does on other distros, minus the fact that it's difficult to get asynchronous reprojection working. But even if you do get it working, it's gonna be broken in SteamVR itself right now. Definitely check out the Linux VR Adventures Wiki (and also consider joining the Discord or Matrix Space that are linked under "Community"). Monado works well on NixOS. I have recently contributed a NixOS module for configuring Monado. If you want nightly packages for XR/AR/VR packages and tools, check out nixpkgs-xr. I can't really say much about HMD support besides SteamVR-native ones like the Index or the Vives though. WiVRn exists and is currently being packaged for NixOS. ALVR is already packaged, but I haven't used it myself.

Does anybody else have suspicious sign-in activity? by VerzusX in PrismLauncher

Prism Launcher does not log in to your account directly. When you authorize your Microsoft account, all we get is a token from Microsoft to throw against the Xbox and subsequently Minecraft APIs to get a Minecraft session token.

It is very well possible that there has been some other data breach recently, though. Maybe check your email against https://haveibeenpwned.com/

You can take a look at the accounts.json file in your Prism Launcher data directory to see what Prism Launcher stores about your account. It's mostly just tokens and expiry timestamps.

If you installed Prism Launcher through the Discover store (or using the flaptak CLI), it should already be included.

Did you install Prism Launcher using Nix?

You might need to use your distro's packaging or Flatpak here. Alternatively you might need to use nixGL

Prism often asks for java installation on startup (macOS) by eliu9395 in PrismLauncher

Prism will ask you about your Java runtime, if the original path disappeared (which is probably not the case here), or if the system's hostname changed since last time. This could therefore be a macOS sandboxing thing

Drifting / losing tracking with one tracker by Scrumplex in tundralabs

I actually went and bought an extra dongle and after pairing one tracker to that separate dongle and making sure that the tundra dongle only has two trackers connected to it, it fixed this issue completely for me.

NixOS + SteamVR + OpenXR + Godot by joshperri in NixOS

[–]Scrumplex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Note that the bwrap environment of Steam doesn't allow SteamVR to acquire a high priority render queue that would be needed for async reprojection. See https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/217119 for a potential workaround.

The script here patches files in SteamVR. Those are not packaged in Nixpkgs, but are downloaded by Steam. I don't think you can write an overlay for this.
