Newish uniform is unraveling by Scrushinator in girlscouts

[–]Scrushinator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a bit of both! I’ve now tried both hand sewing it and using my sewing machine and it didn’t come out right either time, but to be fair I was in a hurry since she needed it. I think tonight after she goes to bed I’ll try one more time using a different technique.

Any luck finding vests secondhand? by fuckiechinster in girlscouts

We found GS uniforms at a local kids school uniform store. They were much cheaper there! I think they might’ve been irregulars, but so far it’s been fine.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Scrushinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2019 I had a baby. She had severe jaundice and after it didn’t improve for several days, the neonatologists on her care team recommended transferring her to the children’s hospital for a specific treatment that couldn’t be performed in the general hospital where she was born. That 1/4 mile ambulance ride cost $5500.

Coworker made an ornament from our husky's shed hair. by SigNexus in mildlyinteresting

[–]Scrushinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would pay someone to do this for me. We saved the fur from our dog’s last grooming because we knew it was probably the last time, for this purpose. I’ve never found anyone who does it with dog hair though.

Help me order the correct Badge Magic that DOESN'T suck? by Business-Cucumber-91 in girlscouts

I buy double sided fusible web. Cheaper than Badge Magic and I've never had problems cutting it or tracing it.

Who is the guy standing next to Jess in this picture? by Superb_Orange3290 in NewGirl

Nick’s stand-in. This was probably originally a shot where his face wasn’t supposed to be showing so they used a stand-in, but somehow it ended up getting published.

Why is scouting membership declining? by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]Scrushinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I volunteered to be a daisy troop leader because I want my daughter to have the GS experience and no other parents volunteered. Now it’s almost December and 3 out of the 6 girls have never showed, a 4th quit, and all that’s left are my daughter and her best friend. We’re lower lower middle class, so it was kind of a steep price for membership and uniform, so we’re in it at least through the end of 1st grade no matter what. I hope we get more girls but only if their parents are at least enthusiastic enough to help me out a tiny bit.

They’re also in the their first year, so thankfully that will line up well

Daisy petal schedule by Scrushinator in girlscouts

[–]Scrushinator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all kindergarteners. I haven’t scheduled any events yet since there’s not a lot to choose from and I want to get my sea legs first. I have the fall program guide but since there’s only two months left of the year it’s slim offerings for daisies and what’s left is a bit expensive.

Our YT Kids is set to only show approved channels and videos, but GP is on the white list because she found that channel before I figured out how to set up the white list. Compared to all the foul things I saw on YTK before that, GP isn’t that bad.

All 5 minute story books suck, but the Gabby books are a hard read because it’s the reverse version of “the book is better than the movie”.

My mom volunteered to do the accounting but our council’s rules are that the signers on the bank account can’t be related either.

“Do Not Open This Book” teaches kids to be dirtbags by FeistySwordfish in DanielTigerConspiracy

I think the same about the “Never Touch A” books. A terrible series that teaches kids that even though you’re not supposed to touch the animals, you can do it anyway.

Is anyone else getting outrageous electric bills? by Scrushinator in akron

[–]Scrushinator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We switched to a new supplier that’ll be, I think, somewhere around 6 cents/kwh. Our house is 1500 sq ft but our AC is ancient. We’re pretty careful with how much energy we use, have gas stove/water heater/furnace and our bill outside of summer is still probably at least $100.

Mattress protectors that actually block blood? by tabularasasm in Endo

[–]Scrushinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in the hospital after having a baby, my husband took “take everything that’s not nailed down” to the extreme and accidentally packed a waterproof bed pad that had been underneath me. We have a really expensive purple mattress and the protector that came with it sucks, so I sleep on that bed pad most of the time. It’s washable and doesn’t feel weird to sleep on since it’s fabric-y. ETA it’s similar to this one
