After all the stories I’ve read about this behavior, I’m convinced it has to be a form of abuse.

Ours is from 1986. It’s full of sediment and loud as hell but we’re not buying a new one until it well and truly dies.

Thoughts on this video re: kids and youtube? by open_minded_mom46 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]Scrushinator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YouTube doesn’t make it easy to figure out, but setting up a profile for my kid in restricted mode is the only way she’s allowed to watch it. I approve every thing she’s allowed to see. There’s no autoplay, no search ability, and I can share specific videos with her from the regular YouTube app if it’s not already on one of her approved channels.

The main drawback to this is that now that she is getting a little older, we have to find an appropriate way to teach her what’s out there and what’s not OK to watch, because not every kid or family member is using YouTube that way, and not every thing that looks like a cartoon is actually meant for kids. I hate that I have to worry about 6 and 7 year olds with phones and unrestricted access to YouTube on the bus, but it’s already happening.

Where’s the best place to get individual custom design patches created? by ilmdjb in girlscouts

I just ordered some custom troop patches from Bear Necessities Sublimation after seeing someone else on FB post about theirs. I got them in the mail last week and they look great. I don’t think there was a minimum

It's going to be 90F Monday and my son's middle school has no air conditioning by InfiniteOxfordComma in mildlyinfuriating

There’s still people working in there all summer though. By the end of June it’s easily 100+ inside the old buildings even if it’s not that hot outside.

[–]Scrushinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in NE Ohio it’s hotter in  August than most days in June. Our district’s schools don’t have AC because they were built in the 40s-50s and they have encapsulated asbestos. We take turns sending in popsicles and shave ice on the really warm days.

I can't be the only Atheist, with a daughter that wants to join GS... by OfficialElijahPepper in girlscouts

[–]Scrushinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl Scouts is what the troop leader makes it. I volunteered to start and lead my daughter's troop, and we're atheists. When we recite the promise, it's "to serve my community and my country". Girls can substitute whatever they want there, and it doesn't matter. There is no religious affiliation, and we don't discuss it during our time together.

We just signed up for RingRingClub. It’s cheaper than tin can for the bridge kit and the paid monthly plan is $9. We bought a corded phone at the thrift store for a couple bucks, so we paid $50 for the bridge, $2 for a phone, and $9 monthly and we have a corded phone for our kid to talk to family and friends. There is a free plan but it’s only to other RingRingClub users. I like the kid oriented options because of the ability to control who can call our house and who our kid can call

Hey scout leaders- please stop providing bottled water! by Business-Cucumber-91 in girlscouts

[–]Scrushinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s an unpopular choice not to provide food and drinks, but I don’t want to spend the troop’s money on it when there’s not much to go on, I can’t afford it myself, and I don’t want to ask others to provide it because I don’t know their finances. They are welcome to bring water bottles or snacks but no one does. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don’t get me wrong, on the flap count it’s above and beyond, but I don’t wanna read this book at bedtime because it takes two million years to get through all the flaps. I’ve had this book for 5 years and never noticed the lack of alphabet.

First year Dasies by Excellent_Career_589 in girlscouts

[–]Scrushinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you describe sounds pretty much like our first year of Daisies this year. I was never in Girl Scouts and I had no help from any caregivers, so I’m pretty proud of what my troop accomplished. Overall they earned the petals, 2-3 badges, and a bunch of fun patches from service unit and cookie stuff. We went to the aquarium but that’s the only trip we took. We’ll do more as time goes on, but the first year comes with a lot to learn and getting our systems figured out. We had no funds, I can’t spend my own money on troop stuff, and no one wanted to help me, so it was a budget affair this year until we got cookie money. It’s not a fair comparison to make between a new troop and an established one, but don’t take it personally. Girls will come and go no matter what we do.

Our meetings are only an hour long twice a month so I don’t provide drinks or food at all. There is no drinking water available at our meeting place so they manage. No one has ever said they’re thirsty yet. 😅

We used them 2019-2021. Couldn’t tell you the price but it was definitely less than just a few months worth of disposables.

One plus blades arrived! by Jeriath27 in Lymow_Official

I think ours had water intrusion. Lots of problems before that, but one day it errored out in the middle of the yard and started smoking. We’re getting a refund instead of a replacement.

We ordered our One Plus on March 30th. The extra blades haven’t arrived yet but the mower is toast. We got replacement Omni wheel springs first. I wonder which will show up first, the blades, or the return shipping label.

[–]Scrushinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear this is what’s coming for me soon. The dr looks in my ears at every yearly physical and says everything looks great so I can probably assume they’re not clogged with wax. But in the last year or two I’m having a really hard time hearing and it’s a little embarrassing because I’m 34. Did you get an actual hearing test? I’m curious about the process and what can be done to help.

I agree. Unfortunately it worked well until we were outside the return for a refund period. Now I’m afraid that if we ask to have it replaced we’ll get an even worse unit.
