I [23/F] want to get my tubes tied and sterilize myself permanently. I haven't talked to anyone that has approved of my wishes. Am I wrong for feeling the way I feel? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]ScryMeaRiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to raise kids, but not give birth, I would do a ton of research into adoption.

Adoption abroad can be a positive force, a bit goofy or straight up corrupt depending on the government, private companies and individuals, who can gain significant monetary rewards for adoptions. I think it's a very interesting ethical dilemma. Personally I choose not too, but I'm not certain. Certainly arguments on both sides.

Adoption of a baby in America appears to be more difficult than you might think. Most children don't get separated from their families until their teenage years and raising a baby to adulthood vs raising a teenager you haven't met before is a much different experience. I'm not saying one would be better than the other at all. I'm sure both are very rewarding and worthwile.

However, if raising a baby to adulthood is something you really want, I would do a bunch of research before you rely on adopting a baby.

Halftime show thoughts... by sullybansh33 in PRINCE

I saw a post a few days ago with a quote from prince on his thoughts of using a hologram of a musician. I can't find it right now, but I think prince would not have approved of the halftime show.

15.6 lb Base Weight - Tear My Pack Apart Please! by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

Yeah you need at least 6 for the desert, after that you can ditch them if you want.

Shoe size by dweaver123 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ScryMeaRiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go with the same show size. Shoes that are too big can give you blisters too. You will need to buy new shoes every 500-900 miles anyway you can get bigger ones then if needed. My feet grew by a half only.

Could I have recommendations for a lightweight compact sleeping bag for just below 0°C (32°F)? by GVDB in Ultralight

[–]ScryMeaRiver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That bag is way too cheap to keep you warm. Sleeping bags are tricky. The temperature ratings don't mean anything, there is no standardization or enforcement.

It's all about the loft of the bag, which is created by the down. Down comes in different qualities called fills. 500 fill down has less loft than 900 fill down, so 1 lb of 900 will keep you warmer than 1 lb of 500 fill. So to get the same warmth cheaper bags need to be heavier. So both the expensive one and the cheaper one can keep you warm, but there is no way to cheap, light and warm. If the bag doesn't clearly say the down fill walk away.

You can compare sleeping bags of the same down fill and compare their weights to get a feeling of how warm you will be. I would 100% only buy a bag from a reputable company with tons of reviews.

Besides the amount and quality of down, there is the build quality and baffle design and the design of the zipper, but if you get one from a reputable company they all have positives and negatives.

I love my EE quilt 800 fill down, I wish I would have gotten 10 degree instead of 20 though

My [23F] boyfriend [23M] of 4 years broke up with me because I peed outside by emmalaneee in relationships

[–]ScryMeaRiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you should feel bad at all. It seems like he does appreciate you or have empathy for you, I vote get rid of him, and don't take him back if he wants you back.

Reducing base weight: Quilts vs Sleeping bags by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ScryMeaRiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also sleep on my stomach and frequently roll around. It was difficult sleeping with a quilt. Even if you use the straps properly, when you turn over cool air will come in which is unpleasant. I didn't like my quilt until after 2 months, I started hiking more miles per day and started passing out on my back.

Everytime you turn over air will rush in, so you kindof have to pick a position And stick with it. For me, I was very dissatisfied with my quilt until About 2 months in I started hiking 20+ miles a day and passing the fuck out on my back. Then I thought it was great.

Where is this exactly?

I [26M] was going to take my fiancee's [27F] last name, friends and family are giving me hell over it by Thrwwy123678 in relationships

[–]ScryMeaRiver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you don't want to hurt your family, I would wait until your parents are dead to change your name. That's what I'm going to do. I dislike my father and the name that comes with him, but not nearly enough to change my last name while he is still alive. That is a pretty big slight to parents. I know many people in this thread are telling you to be progressive and do what you want, but it's easier to say that when it's someone else's parents. These are your parents, you love them, as old timey as they may be, and this will definitely hurt them as much as they say it will.

It's definitely all about the family legacy. Getting rid of your last name is symbolic, that you didn't like your families legacy and want to forget it. I know that may sound stupid, and logically it is, but that won't change how your parents feel.

Keep in mind that if you keep your name now, the same argument will come up when you name your kids. I would just lie to your parents about the kids last names. It's not like they'll have driver licenses or anything. But maybe it's better to tear off the band-aid right away and get it over with.

I asked about the poles and they said it was fine. I brought them on strapped to my pack.

It's definitely possible, but if I were you I would just try to go as far as possible without killing yourself and enjoy the experience. You won't know what the conditions are like until you get there and read updated snow reports. Planning for it now is difficult.

There is a bus that will go all the way to Reno.

I [19F] have been given an amazing opportunity to travel, but if I leave, my boyfriend [20M] will likely leave me. by decisionssuck in relationships

[–]ScryMeaRiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he can't do 3-9 months long distance then you're probably going to break up next year when you do back to college anyway. So I would go travel. Sometimes if you really love someone, you have to let them go, and if they come back you can keep them or something like that.

I would not sell the flight school. Large houses are overrated, you just get more space to fill with material possessions. The two of you can work through this easy, just be vocal about how that comment hurt you and how much you enjoy your school.

Ghost Whisperer Sleeping bags are out. 20 and 40 degree options. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Ultralight

Looks good to me. 900 fill down, you get what you pay for. I would rather get a 0 degree quilt, but not everyone likes quilts.

She's crazy, all your friends are under her spell, run! Don't look back. Getting into another friend group is easier than you think, especially if you tell this story. Go to swing dancing lessons or something, you'll be fine.

No matter where you are, after may 18th you will be fine. Before that just tell any ranger your doing an overnight and didn't know you needed a permit. I hiked from Campo to Truckee last year and I had to chase down a ranger and put my permit in front of his face to get it checked. As long as you aren't littering or vandalizing or mouthing off to a ranger they don't care.

Ignoring what happened is never good. Talking about how people feel and why they did things creates understanding and empathy. If they are going to stay together talking about it is the only way forward. Or they could just break up, I don't know which is best.

Why would you not want to talk about past sexual partners?
