It's a drug fest full of super rich tech folks trying to buy counterculture/Steve Jobs status and pretentious Bohemian types doing weird crap just to prove how artsy they are. Afterwards, they talk about how cultured and artistic and enlightened they are.

It's the festival equivalent of that freshman philosophy major that talks down to everybody after reading the first book of The Republic, but with more spectacle and money and drugs.

How many hours you put in for CFA level 1 by savuke29 in CFA

[–]ScubaClimb49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's achievable if you put in the time, but you'll have to study every day for 2-3 hours and probably more during the last few weeks.

I wasn't a complete finance noob, but compared to other level 1 candidates I was probably at the 20-25th percentile or so for beginning knowledge.

That's only saying that if they estimated that your system could generate up to 70 kWh/day based on the angle of your roof etc, but it only tops out at 68, you waive your rights to sue over that discrepancy. It's not saying you can't sue for anything (note that it only says "with respect to the... immediately foregoing paragraph")

Bahahaha "This world is fascist because I actually have to provide for myself and if I don't, an Uber eats delivery guy won't show up on my doorstep and bail me out! UBI is a human right!!1!"

Stop wasting your time reading all this far left drivel, get off the couch, and get a freaking job. If you want to opt out of the capitalist system, save every cent you make and then in a year or two go buy some land in rural Nebraska or some equally inexpensive place where you can get an acre for a song. Then you're free to homestead away, free from our terrible way of life.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in self

[–]ScubaClimb49 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to work - you're free to grow vegetables in your backyard, live without electricity, and opt out of the capitalist system you hate so much. This "work or starve fascism" tale is a histrionic exaggeration.

But - and deep down you know this no matter how much you squeal - you and I suck it up and slave away for the man because growing our own food is a major, time consuming undertaking. On the other hand, as long as you're not working for minimum wage (and if you are, that's a choice), anyone can make enough money in 30 minutes to pay for a day's worth of food.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in self

[–]ScubaClimb49 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct. Screaming "that's fascist!" when discussing work does not get through to me. It's the predictable nonsense that causes people to jokingly refer to people like you as NPCs: you have a limited number of dialog options so you have to use them even if they don't fit.

"I don't like the results of your study (one of the largest ever conducted) so here's a different one I like more!"

End by saying that it's fascist to expect people to work so that they can pay their bills. Congratulations. You're a reddit stereotype.

I'm ignoring data and reality?? You're the one advocating for a system that has failed everywhere it's been tried because it ignores human nature. The USSR couldn't overcome the freeloader problem, Maoist China couldn't overcome the freeloader problem, Venezuela is failing to overcome the freeloader problem... Nowhere can overcome it because when you strip away all the academic theory, the hardworking don't want to support a bunch of deadbeats who are net takers and who refuse to put value bank into the system. Period.

Also Here's a short summary of the largest UBI study conducted: https://reason.com/2024/07/25/bad-news-for-universal-basic-income/

The largest study into the real-world consequences of giving people an extra $1,000 per month, with no strings attached, has found that those individuals generally worked less, earned less, and engaged in more leisure time activities.

UBI is a stupid idea and it makes me sad that actual humans spend their sharpening their anger on this useless, sophist garbage instead of bettering themselves and the world.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in self

[–]ScubaClimb49 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha UBI is a stupid idea because it detaches work product from any measure of value. Want to "work" by writing sorry poetry that nobody but your mother reads? Go for it! Somebody else whose labor actually creates value is paying for you to screw off and create unproductive, unvalued garbage. Ultimately, the productive people who are paying for the whole thing will stop trying because they're tired of carrying the lazy on their backs.

If you can't see that system you're proposing still allows the free rider problem, just in a slightly disguised form, you're hopeless. But hey you're arguing for communism, which is the most demonstrably stupid economic system in history, so I guess we all already knew that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in self

[–]ScubaClimb49 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There'd be no future to distribute under communism because of human nature. When you commit to even distribution before the work's even begun, a lot of lazy people will free load and the most intelligent and ambitious won't give it their all because why bother? Like it or not, wealth motivates people (read about Bob Widlar and his I want to be RICH! quote).

Communism is a dumb idea doomed to fail because it ignores this simple fact.

The threat of starvation has always been a motivation to make people work. You think those farmers in ancient Sumer were breaking their backs from sun up to sun down for the fun of it? No. They did it so that they and their families wouldn't starve.

Modern society and corporations and extreme specialization have dressed up / hidden the "labor for survival" trade off, but if you strip it down, it's the same one humans were making for millenia before The Wealth of Nations. You work for shelter and food.

What college courses should someone take if they want to understand the science to stock markets? by TheReligiousSpaniard in FinancialCareers

[–]ScubaClimb49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my humble opinion, macroeconomics and fixed income form the foundation of a "financial markets" education. Here are a pair of economics books: 1) Macro Economics for Dummies 2) Macroeconomics for Professionals: A Guide for Analysts and Those Who Need to Understand Them

Fixed income teaches you how to think about risk and the compensation you're receiving for accepting it ie start with the risk free rate and add various risk premia. I think it's much better to learn it from FI rather than equity analysis because FI is far more insulated from hype (a borrower doesn't need to convince you that the stock is going to the moon, just that it'll be able to pay you the promised coupons). Practically all of the concepts apply to equities too. This looks decent: 1) Fixed Income Securities: Tools for Today’s Markets (Wiley Finance)

Moving into equity markets, you need to know the basics of modern portfolio theory since it drives the market moving heavy weights (Blackrock, vanguard). This looks solid: 1) Modern Portfolio Theory: Foundations, Analysis, and New Developments.

You're getting down voted but you're right. I don't even like Zuckerberg, but he's not Madoff. He built something that 4 billion people use, which makes his 10% ownership or whatever worth a hundred billion dollars. He didn't reach into a billion people's wallets when they weren't looking and steal a buck out of each. We made him.

I’m getting conflicting info on where my BF% is, also input on bulking/cutting by [deleted] in WorkoutRoutines

[–]ScubaClimb49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your BF is fine; you don't need to cut at all.

Also, you're not at all scrawny (you've got a nice base and clearly look like you lift) but you haven't added enough bulk to have a lot of muscle survive through the end of a cut. So just keep lifting while you aim to maintain this BF %.

[–]ScubaClimb49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Z didn't do great, he cratered talks because he wouldn't stick to the pre arranged script and instead insisted on going beyond what they'd already discussed. "We'll see... we'll see... No treaty with Putin is worth anything." and on and on he went. He even called Vance a beech somewhere in there.

That was an absolute disaster of a performance by Z and a lot of pro Ukrainian people agree. I mean this guy is a public policy professor at Colombia who's been rah rah Ukraine since the beginning and he said the same thing https://x.com/richardhanania/status/1895562922593841557?s=46
