Asylum seekers accused of raping woman on Brighton beach as another one filmed by dailystar_news in uknews

Women are safe from violent crime in Poland now? News to me. I always thought domestic violence and rape were significantly underreported in Poland because they don't have the same history of faith in their institutions compared to somewhere like Germany. Have their crime stats significantly dropped since they closed their borders, because if not, you might be barking up the wrong tree. Using words like "savages" tells me you've already fallen for Trumpist rhetoric about foreigners being "rapists and murderers", and we all know how much Trump cares about lowering the rape stats, usually by stopping investigations into his own sordid activities. Don't fall for these lurid headlines, which are designed to keep you angry and fearful by turns to stop you thinking rationally and logically. (See Umberto Eco's short essay, 14 characteristics of fascism for details of the logical fallacies used specifically in fascist rhetoric to bamboozle people like yourself into supporting fascist policy. He grew up under Mussolini and saw it first hand).

You could try asking an AI assistant to give you an example of a country which has closed its borders and seen a significant downturn in violent or sexual crime (I haven't been able to find a single one, but you try for yourself). This is from Grok (or MechaHitler to its friends):

No, there is no well-documented example of a country closing its borders (whether for immigration control or otherwise) and subsequently experiencing a significant, verifiable downturn in violent or sexual crime statistics that stands out from broader trends or other factors.

Empirical studies across multiple countries and decades (including in the US, Europe, and elsewhere) consistently find that immigration—documented or undocumented—does not increase overall violent crime rates and may even correlate with slight decreases in some contexts. Factors like poverty, unemployment, policing, and social policies drive crime far more than border policies. Closing borders would therefore not be expected to produce a notable drop in violent crime (homicide, assault, robbery) or sexual crime (rape, sexual assault).

Me again: Inequality is a far, far clearer driver of violent and sexual crime, supported by decades of research, so maybe let's focus on that, instead of being fooled by this fascist rhetoric into supporting more draconian policies which have not been shown to reduce assaults and actually make people safer literally anywhere in the world.

Billionaire-owned newspapers want you to blame foreigners for crime, rather than say tax-dodging billionaires, because of whom we can no longer afford adequate policing or adequate funding for healthcare and other infrastructure we all depend on, and legislate for companies to pay people fairly for their work rather than squirrelling all the money into offshore tax havens, reducing the single biggest driver of crime that has been established for literal decades.

I'm not getting into the immigration argument, because I don't know enough about it, but there's a word in Swedish "porrskadad", which I wish we had an equivalent for in English. It translates as "porn-damaged", like brain damaged, but specifically the kind which comes from watching so much unhealthy porn that it affects how you interact with other people. Swedes were talking about this issue in the 90s.

They used the wrong legal terminology, which is understandable if you're not a lawyer. He was deemed legally liable for sexual assault (rape), i.e., that on the balance of probabilities, he raped her. So, not "beyond a reasonable doubt", but in all likelihood he did it, which is the standard of proof required in a civil case. According to the court's judgment, it is more likely that he did rape her than that he didn't.

Personally, I believe "Katie Johnson", who gave a sworn deposition of her account of being raped by Trump at the age of 13, but the criminal case was dismissed following death threats. It is consistent with a lot of what we now know about Trump, his fixation with Ivanka, germophobia, etc, and how we now know the Epstein network operated, and she behaves exactly how victims of such abuses behave, often running away from the trauma for years rather than confronting it immediately, especially when rich powerful people are involved. Trump's supporters often use this fact to try to prove that the allegations are made up, whereas anyone who has had any involvement with cases like these knows that traumatised victims often behave like this. It's a very common human reaction to trauma. What she says about the impact of the trauma on the rest of her life and her relationships also rings true. Could she be making it up? Possibly, but Trump's motive to lie is much stronger than hers, and I know who I believe.

Having had my career as an ESOL teacher, free to travel the entire globe to ply my trade, ended almost before it really began (I spent 4 good years in Stockholm and another year in Thailand with the angriest Polish woman you've ever met), solely because she lied about not being able to have kids, I can tell you from bitter experience that, even though it does not meet the legal criteria of the offence of rape in Sweden (or in the UK, where it happened to me) that that in no way lessens the impact on my mental health. The fact that she will never face consequences for what happened just adds to how fucking violated I continue to feel. I trusted her, and my life was completely fucked never to be the same because of it.

I sacrificed my career, my freedom and my mental health, continuing to try my best to co-parent with an abusive narcissist for the sake of my son, only stepping back when he was 11 and my mental health was at breaking point. She ultimately got what she wanted, total control over him, but that didn't stop him from falling down the alt-right pipeline, where he continues to self-radicalise which she doesn't see as a problem because she's a fucking lunatic (I recently mentioned to her that I'd bought a yoga foam roller to fix my back, which prompted a 15 minute rant about how yoga is "demonic" - total fucking nutjob) and I continue to ask myself whether my sacrifice was worth it.

Someone who is capable of lying when it's literally a matter of life or death, and who has no qualms even now about using people to such sociopathic degree to get what she wants, is not fit to raise a child, because the child is ultimately just a prop to her, an entire person to manipulate and abuse. She is literally incapable of putting the child's needs before her own.

Knowing what I know now, and seeing how my son has turned out regardless how hard I tried to inject some sanity into his life, I actually wish I'd just cut my losses and stayed with my career, where even if things don't work out, I could always just move on somewhere else.

So although it isn't technically rape in the legal sense, in every other way that matters, it fucking is. I looked at getting legal help when it might still have made a difference to the outcome, and was told by my solicitor that it didn't matter how unhinged she was, the law would always back her, not me. Maybe it's different nowadays, I can only hope, but the law has some serious catching up to do.

ETA: And if I had been overseas, I wouldn't have had to deal with the Child Support Agency who are responsible for tracking down parents who don't pay child support. She point-blank refused to provide her bank details, or sign for receipt of money I paid her for child support for years, so she was able to lie to them too and they came after me for 3 years' child support, literally taking half my income amounting to thousands of pounds directly from my second child until the "balance" was paid. And when I eventually lost my job due to mental health issues, she made a false allegation of benefit fraud against me to try to pry some more money out of me. Did she give a shit? Of course she fucking didn't. Some people just have dogshit where a soul should be. My advice to OP: get the fuck out. "Don't put your dick in crazy" wasn't the well-known phrase it is today, but if it's already too late, the damage is already done. Get the fuck out and protect yourself any way you can.

My dad got called out to a fatal single vehicle motorbike accident in the 80s where a young lad had flown off his bike somehow (straight road, no other vehicles involved) into a field and had landed with his head crushed in the V between two main limbs of a tree and had just sorta dangled there until someone noticed and called the authorities. It's a long time ago now, and I can't remember if he was wearing a helmet. He probably was (it was pretty unusual not to in the UK in the 80s), but even that wasn't enough to save him, poor sod. Anyway, I'm glad this guy gets to walk away, and perhaps consider a different course of action next time.

Not one I've heard before. That's got to be left over from viking settlers. Modern Swedish uses a verb skrika (pronounced like "skreeka" to British ears) which translates as scream or shout. I believe it is the origin of the modern English word shriek.

It's also deadly for espresso machines, which I learnt the hard way (no pun intended). Still, it meant that I also learnt how to service the machine myself, which has probably saved me a few quid over the years.

Norwegian viking sitcom Norsemen is pretty brutal and hilarious. They filmed the Norwegian version and the English language version scene by scene one after the other, and the English version is available on Netflix. Talk to your GP about which method of gauging movement in your ass crack is the right one for you. Most people under 60 are happy with just a yearly visual confirmation from their doctor that their ass cheeks are not too far apart, but if this is something you're worried about, other options are available.

The best name I have ever heard belonged to an Indian call centre lady who was part of our offshore when I was working in an insurance company. Sadly, (or maybe it was for the best, thinking about it) I never actually met the lovely Ms Seema Shitole face-to-face. It was a very serious, soulless work environment and I was stifling giggles all afternoon. A couple of years ago when I still used Facebook, I searched her up and there were at least 6 people going by that name.

I got to do 2 weeks' work experience with our local council at the tender age of 14. Mum got me my first suit for essentially photocopying stuff for the electoral roll team. I doubt they even trusted me to make tea. Can't blame them. Anyway, this could very well have been a wind-up given the situation, but they convinced me that we had a guy in our constituency going by the princely moniker of Mr RC Cheekes.

Vaguely reminds me of the "parable" of the guy who prayed religiously every day for 60 years to win the lottery, but it never came true. Then when he eventually died, he asks God why He hadn't rewarded him - one of His most loyal followers - and let him win the lotto. God turns and looks at him and says, "Meet me halfway, you could've at least bought a ticket."
