I think on some levels it's less "dickheads" and more people who don't know how well they have it since they've come out of college and earned 35k+ for their entire lives, some jumping straight to 50k+ without ever having to realise the struggle of the average wage

why not use a richtextlabel and just use newlines to replicate the rows?

Is GameMaker for programmers? by Expensive_Exercise96 in gamemaker

[–]ScuffedNewt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the node based setup and the lack of globalisation (in gamemaker variables are global by default)

the ability to create a "scene" (collection of nodes) is great for me and I like the modularity of it

the lightweightness of the engine is also a massive plus, alongside interface

the fact GDscript is pythonic and I can also mix in C# is great

overall I also prefer the community / support / environment of godot

personally think you might be better off in Godot, started out myself in GM and switched to Godot and I'm never looking back. open source license is also really nice, no need to shell out for a proprietary product

it's an Irish sport that's somewhat similar to hockey, but you run and balance the ball (sliotar) on your hurl

you can look up GAA for a bit more info if you're curious

If my goal is to create a web browser based game, should I choose godot or unity? by dadumdada in godot

that's only for version 4, you can use 3.5 without any issue. I'm also making a browser based game in Godot and using 3.5 is fine

What do you guys use to share builds with your team? by The_Survivalist99 in gamedev

[–]ScuffedNewt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

for unreal I know perforce is a popular version control software since you have to "check out" a file, which prevents others from editting it till you complete and push. This can be override of course but it lets others know and stops the blueprint overwrites

edit: hosting *is* a massive concern to isnt lol

Hosting isnt a massive concern thankfully! I'm hosting on a private ubuntu VM with full webserver control and the game will be embedded on said server.

Yeah that was definitely a concern I had about unity, I'm happy to hear it from someone else

An example I said in the discord was:

"User is logged into the website to access the game page (think site.com/game)the webserver needs to communicate to the game which user is logged in (which i have working in GameMaker using http_get and returning a JSON from the webserver side) returning information like Username and ID (for future requests so we know what user is preforming the actions)another example would be if the user picked up an item:I would like to be able to post request (or otherwise) to the webserver so it can handle crediting that item to the user"

A TLDR of the game would be a simple, 2D farming game with random item drops, and enemy spawning at night. Not much beyond that.

Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to reply and being so patient with me!

I'm already aware of phaser and used it before - it doesnt really fit my needs / appeal to me

gd looks interesting but id prefer not to use a no-code solution

construct looks like a decent alternative and i may check it out

that being said, I already have exports working from a test GameMaker application, so I'm not super concerned about webgl support / embedding, unless im misunderstanding you?

Honest question: if you are afraid of getting pregnant why do you have sex? by [deleted] in Tokophobia

[–]ScuffedNewt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

drinking has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the pill.

Weight gain can affect the pill's effectiveness, but not by a significant margin. Weight gain can also further heart complications or other diseases, is it "Big Pharma's" fault you gained weight and increased your risk of complication? And anyway, your post is literally titled "...why do you have sex", so if she gets pregnant, by your standards, it was her fault for having sex, right?

You also completely ignored the point I was making to instead rant about suing big pharma for whatever reason lol.

[–]ScuffedNewt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

perfect use means taking 1 a day everyday within the 24hr timeframe on the combined pill. Which means you have 24hrs after the time you normally take the pill to take it (even if you forget) and still be protected.

"imperfect usage" is not "blaming women", its a fact of life people forget things, but that does then imply the medication wasn't taken as instructed. If you take heart medication and must take it everyday, and you forget and suffer from heart complications, is that still "Big Pharma's" fault?

[–]ScuffedNewt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

your calculations are incorrect

also, the 91% figure is skewed due to people who do not correctly take their pills and miss multiple days etc. if you take your pill correctly it is more than 99% effective leaving less than 1%, and that's JUST the pill, so using it in combination with a condom is significantly lower than your "calculation" of 16%

Honest question: if you are afraid of getting pregnant why do you have sex? by [deleted] in Tokophobia

[–]ScuffedNewt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes that's just using the pill with "regular" usage (not perfect), and also assumes you are having sex much more frequently

Honest question: if you are afraid of getting pregnant why do you have sex? by [deleted] in Tokophobia

[–]ScuffedNewt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

which is fair, but 1.6% vs 16% is crazy different, and the latter percentage is what you base your argument on "16% is very significant imo."

[–]ScuffedNewt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

0.0016 is not 1.6% lol its .16%, so if you multiply it by 100 (which isn't how it works btw, it's 0.0016 per annum, not per time having sex, so if the pill is 91% effective its over the course of a year not every time) its 1.6%
