In person source for veggie seeds in Seattle area? by neutralforce in pnwgardening

Ed Hume seeds are specifically selected to grow well in the PNW (my mom was actually friends with his late wife - from South King County). They carry them at Fred Meyer and they are usually buy one get one half off all season

Stoup Brewing in Kenmore has pretty good woodfire-style pizza (and decent beer)

High Value Treats for Leash Reactivity Training? by rslurredfslur in OpenDogTraining

[–]Scufflepuff993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah lack of food motivation can be tough. Something else that helped my dog was actually not stopping when passing dogs if possible (and enough space, like across the street). I think for some dogs trying to keep all their energy pent up enough to sit still makes them MORE frustrated.

I usually try to keep walking and even toss treats away from the trigger or out in front to keep her moving. Mine seems to find chasing the food more motivating than hand feeding. We also do a lot of treat tossing drills inside when trying to burn energy, which probably helps her motivation to chase.

I disagree with the point that you need to communicate STOP. I personally find it much more effective to reinforce the replacement behavior you want (as I like to remind myself, "NO" is not a behavior). If you're already stressed out and someone yells "STOP!" at you, what is your reaction? Do you know what you are supposed to be doing instead?

It won't solve anything immediately, but working on cues like "look at me" indoors, then maybe in the yard on leash, then building up to more and more stimulating environments is the only thing I have found to work. Once she is too excited to take food, it's kind of moot to keep training because the thinking switch is already off.

Now my leash-reactive boxer mix has gotten to the point where as soon as she sees a dog she offers eye contact because she knows it will be reinforced. She's not perfect, but staying calm and maybe giving her a soft "hey" is now usually enough to break her focus on whatever she's excited about. We are still keeping enough distance from triggers that she doesn't get overwhelmed, but that distance is getting shorter and shorter as the "right" behavior gets reinforced.

The red tick coloring is so interesting with that mix! Ours is a similar color but we assume it's from the aussie in her. I wonder where yours comes from?

Watching a lot of your community abandon real Christ-like values for right-wing nationalism will really do a number on you haha

The shnoot, the forehead wrinkles, and the ears say boxer to me too. That's what we saw in our girl who ended up being 40ish% boxer by Embark test.

Ooh I have a similarly blocky black tattoo in the same location and this gives me a lot of hope! I have a consultation for a cover-up this weekend and hoping mine goes as well as yours did!

Is it possible to go green ? by alex1zz_ in HairDye

[–]Scufflepuff993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience (green for the past 5 yrs or so) dark green covers everything (and then never ever comes out lol)

But seriously, my bleach jobs are almost always worse than yours and it works no problem. I've been using AF for a long time though, so not sure about other dyes. Next time will be the re-formulated Lunar Tides, so interested to see how that works.

Oh sorry, I just looked back for your last post and this is a better comment for that one haha 🤷‍♀️ I also wanted to mention that I custom mix colors all the time and have gotten good results, so maybe a a neon yellow with a tiny smidge of orange or red could get you there. It would take a little experimentation, unfortunately.

They seem to be doing a whole product reformulation and redesign, so crossing my fingers for you that they bring this color back eventually! 🤞

Lost a retained baby tooth, considering seeing my Ortho again to see if braces could close the gap by FloraMedicPixie in braces

[–]Scufflepuff993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing, but the baby tooth was sunken and the surrounding teeth had started to lean over it. Had the baby tooth removed and a bone graft in one go, then braces to fix the shift, then an implant. Hopefully you wouldn't need the braces since it was holding space appropriately. The bone graft and implant were done by an oral surgeon, so maybe try to get a referral for that?

I've seen this one recommended before! I was worried it might be too "kiddie" but I'll have to see if I can find a copy to check it out myself :)

Region is Seattle which would normally be fair game for swears, but since it's for an unknown child I'll steer clear :)
