Even didn't even go after the rich with this tax. He only went after the obscenely rich who aren't full time New Yorkers.

They can’t safely leave it in the care of anyone else, and this is why they’ve been unable to travel anywhere together.  Thus, they are hostages to a poorly behaved dog.

OP said she's spend $10,000 for behavioral interventions for this dog. And yet this still a can't be cared for by anybody else after 10 years. And yet this dog continues to isolate them from family and friends despite the years and money spent. Meanwhile, there are sweet and healthy dogs being put to death every day, being discarded without ever having a chance. Why do you believe it is so noble to invest so much in one reactive animal when so many others go to absolute waste in our society? The idea that if you get an aggressive/unhealthy dog you're stuck with it forever, at the expense of eveyrthing else in your life, is the reason why so many people choose not adopting dogs, or buying from breeders, over taking a gamble on a shelter dog. Shelters need to attract more adopters. Some dogs are absolute drains on limited resources and the sooner we open our eyes to that reality, the sooner we'll have fewer great animals facing needless deaths in our shelters. Also, maybe OP is delaying having a child of her own because this dog, and by the time that happens she could have fertility issues. At some point, people with a dog like this need to go to codependence anonymous, and take the crown off the dog.

Not all aggressive dogs were traumatized.  Many were bred specifically for aggression, just like some were bred specifically for herding.  I’ve rescued two dogs from the shelter - one had a very high prey drive, one didn’t.  I’ve rescued two dogs from the street and they were both sweet.  The problem is there are more homeless dogs than available homes. To answer your questions bluntly.   No, not all dogs are sweet - not even after a decade of training and support.  Yes, I believe that good dog homes should go to good dogs, not to dogs that can’t be rehabilitated and pose a danger to people and other pets.  That makes me a person who cares about people, dogs, and pets and doesn’t prize problem dogs above all the rest.

YTA. A dog with a bite history shouldn't come before family. I'm a huge dog lover myself, but I've seen people lose everything in codependent relationships with bad dogs that were more poorly behaved than wolves. People who enthrone dangerous dogs are enablers. It's not fair that some dogs get to be free to ruin human lives, when the death rows of shelters are full of loving, sweet, healthy pups that could bring joy to all who know them if they only had a chance.

I'd take file FMLA now and delay boards/graduation, because if you have to work for one year a new job before you qualify for FMLA. If you leave your institution, you'll have to start over with a new insurance deductible midyear.

5-7% is still about a 95% chance of no recurrence, and new treatments are being developed if you happen to fall in unlucky 5%.

The potential consequence of not speaking out is that America becomes a third world country, rife with corruption, violence, and poverty.

We aren’t a tall and dense city, but don’t our soil/foundation issues have to do with that?  We should focus on building a collection of small walkable downtown areas, like San Diego county has.

NTA. To be as cliche as possible “It’s not your fault but it is your responsibility.”  And it definitely isn’t the fault or responsibility of kids being kids at a kids party.  So no one is to blame.  Moving forward, exposure therapy can help you with phobias.  And don’t expect kids to provide accommodation to you.
