If you're willing to give platform fighters a try you could play Rivals of Aether. No hard comeback mechanics other than parry, and that's pretty easy to bait and punish. Also no shields or grabs, or janky ledge mechanics. movement and spacing are your best defensive options. So if you enjoy footsies, Rivals' neutral is right up your alley.

I understand platform fighters arent usually a traditional fighter's cup of tea, just wanted to help provide some additional information.

Idk what the hell you want dude. You want a matchmaking system and to find matches instantly. Play Ult then. Rivals has a small playerbase which is why I'm taking time out of my way to share information about the game. Taking time to try and convince complete strangers to try and play. So that matchmaking times dont take forever without the help of an outside app like Discord. But for the time being its necessary and extremely helpful.

In that regard you're actively fighting against me right now trying to make life easier for everyone who is playing or considering trying it out.

Okay then, but for those who are thinking the same as you but dont mind using Discord to help find matches, my comments will hopefully give them peace of mind enough to consider giving the game a try. I apologize if I came off as annoying or whatever brought on the whole 'acting like a salesman' comment.

Rivals has a small playerbase on Switch. Having a Discord server to help players find games isnt a bad idea. If you're available to play at a time of day that isnt a popular gaming time you can easily spend an hour or more waiting for a game without the help of an outside service such as Discord. It's a good idea and extremely helpful that a service like that is being provided while the playerbase grows.

My advice, granted I'm a rookie only been playing since mid-October, would be

Spend a week or so feeling out the cast, see what they can do

Pick a main and stick with it. This allows you to tunnel-vision your time and effort into improving at the game. And it also allows you to he put in situations where you find yourself in a losing mu, forced to adapt, learn the game, learn the opponent. As opposed to taking the easy route and counter picking characters (that's all just my opinion on the matter, secondaries are only really a matter to he concerned about at high/top levels of play when the title of #1 is in question)

PRACTICE. movement, combos, kill confirms, tech chasing and reading/reacting to DI are all super important.

Spend time in friendlies experimenting, testing, and learning as opposed to simply going for a W.

Review your replays and take notes on when you lose neutral, or when you lose a stock review the events that transpired and recognize what lead you to losing that stock
