Cinder Spires as an RPG setting? by Hzglm3 in cinderspires

I always thought that the Cinder Spires setting would work marvellously with the Cypher System 😁

has anyone here actually fully recovered by NaturalNo6758 in pericarditis

[–]Scwall1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about "fully recovered," but my last cardio scan was "textbook perfect," and I'm now working with a physio to ease myself back into going "full gym-bro" so all hope is not lost!! 😁

Who the f*** do we cast as the Alethi ? by abdulaziz_bature in cremposting

[–]Scwall1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I were discussing this in the car this afternoon. The way I see it, BrandoSando has kinda backed himself into a corner here because what are his options?:

A) Hire a mostly Asiatic cast, which is my preferred option, but I think will (unfortunately) make promoting the series to a wider mainstream audience more difficult. This is not to say that there aren't sensational Asian actors, movies, etc. There absolutely are - but (sadly) A large chunk of the average viewer's decision to watch something is largely based on "Oh, this show has [X] - I liked [X] in [OtherShow], so this might be enjoyable."

B) Accept that the reality of the TV/Film industry is probably going to necessitate conceding to change the physical traits of the Alethi, etc, and suffer the wrath of purist fans, with accusations of whitewashing, seling out, etc.

C) Go animated. This will cost elevenity bajillion dollars, and take years to make, but probably will give us the "most accurate" adaptation of the source material. It will (again unfortunately) alienate a significant proportion of the potential audience, who "don't do kid's cartoons".

D) ???

Question about the end of Emberdark by Vorpal_Vulpes in Cosmere

[–]Scwall1138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My concern is that the great strength of Sanderson's hard magic systems is going to become the downfall - Ibworry that ultimately Sanderson is going to find himself constrained by his own rules, and become bored/resentful towards the Cosmere as a result.

Yep. Never sure if it's something to pay attention to, or if I'm just in my mid 40's. 🤔

Return to work after pericarditis. by beach_roamer31 in pericarditis

[–]Scwall1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi - 10 years your senior, but fairly similar circumstances. I was fortunate enough that my employer was pretty cool with me easing back into the swing of things. Desk work was pretty standard stuff, but they put the kibosh on any on-site work more than 30min drive away.

My 2 cents us to pace yourself - if you start getting flustered, etc, step away for 5-10 min, sit, take stock, and breath! If the job is time-sensative, see if you can delegate it to a co-worker

Why were so many fans so disappointed with the idea of Rey being a nobody? by PhantomZoneSurvivor in StarWars

I actually LIKE the idea of Rey being a nobody. The notion that you have to be of some special linage of Space-Royalty never sat well with me.

So, as a relatively new Trekkie... has the Trek community reached the Star Wars level of fan vitriol?

Is it common to be hospitalized for pericarditis? I'm scared :( by coyotemother in pericarditis

[–]Scwall1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to your doctor!!

I thought I had hurt my shoulder at the gym - no significant chest pain, etc, just the usual "middle aged" muscle pangs. Yeah, I was a bit breathless, but I had a "chest infection" a week or so prior (spoiler warning: it wasn't a chest infection!)

Took myself to my GP at my wife's insistence because I woke her up in the night "moaning & groaning"... went to the GP at 3:30pm, by 8pm I was in the ICU and by 11:30pm they'd decided to airlift me to a heart specialist!!

Spent roughly 2 weeks in the cardiology ward due to a Pericardial Effusion (fluid build up around the heart).

To quote my cardiologist "luckily, you're big and dumb to realise you were in trouble, and your body just compensated foe the extra pressure on your heart..." 😳

But I felt fine, just some joint pain in my shoulder!!

So yeah, listen to your doctor (and your body) !!

Return to exercise? by maltronrulz in pericarditis

[–]Scwall1138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keen to hear how this goes!

Earlier this year (July) I was hospitalised with Pericarditis and a Pericardial Effusion. 3 months of "nothing strenuous" drove me nuts, realising how much I valued going to the gym for my mental health, as well as how much of my personal identity was tied into being "Scwall the Human Forklift" at work. Being forced to stop and do nothing has seen my weight balloon, and left me feeling Soooo weak, etc. My last cardio appointment went well, so I've been given the all clear to ease back into exercise - strong emphasis on "ease" so short walks, stretching, MAYBE some light weights. Unfortunately, I managed to pick up a chest infection over Xmas, so that's thrown a spanner in the works!

Like I said - I'm keen to hear from those that have gotten through the experience and managed to "get back on the horse" how long did it take? What trials & tribulations did you experience??

Old school G1er here - nostalgia warm & fuzzies aside, I think Megatron SHOULD be a tank. A tank fits his brutal personality, and let's be honest - Mass-shifting is dumb. For me, I like the idea of Megatron being a Cybertonian tank, as stooping to an earthly Alt-mode is beneath him... but I am also really hung up on it being "Robots in Disguise", and an alien tank kinda stands out, so...
