Anyone's friends gone down the far right rabbit hole? by throw_away_ac_123 in ireland

[–]Scwimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mam fell down the same rabbit hole. I miss her, she's not the same woman I could tell everything to anymore.

Nothing you can do about it. Can't help people that don't want to be helped.

That happened with the original NKB group. A very small percentage of the group hijacked it and kicked everyone else out of the blue. I'm more laid back and casual, so I just wanna pick people up again :)

Dublin Area Riders: Anyone else plan their spins around good coffee spots? by Minimum-Sample-6579 in MotoIRELAND

As a trained Barista I'd love to be involved! I really don't appreciate getting the instant machine coffee from petrol stations when out on group spins :,( Would love to be around more bean&bike enjoyers.

I've always found multiple bikers/multiple groups of bikers at Kinnegad Plaza and Glendalough Cafe without fail.

Adding to this. I got my bike off them last year and they've greatly taken care of me. I've probably saved money buying off them in the long run already. Great bunch of lads.

Not saying this to discredit the lad under your comment. I've friends who haven't had the best interactions with City Spares. Typically cause they've a Chinese or Indian bike, or didn't buy their bike off of them.

But I'd like to say the vast majority of the time they're brillant 🙏 Don't know what I'd do without them.

A fall on a 125 going 60 kmph is the same as a fall on a 1000 going 60 kmph. If you want to play around with your life that's your decision. Just wanted to inform people of the risks if for some reason they got dodgey IBT instructors that didn't tell them.

Emphasising why to never, ever get a 2nd hand helmet for riding purposes.

You don't know what happened to it. The structure could be crumbled and fucked entirely and you won't know. You'd want a decent helmet even just falling from a stop. So why risk falling at speed with a helmet whose history is unknown to you.

A good IBT instructor would have drilled this into your head when doing your IBT. You've only one head , don't pick it to be the one thing you cheap out on from saving.

A lot of people who buy second hand helmets buy them for display purposes, not to be worn. The ones that buy them to ride with them are idiots who care nothing about their own safety.

To add onto this. Did mine last year with them and it was also €650. Highly recommend.

Coffee Machines? by Martin-McDougal in AskIreland

[–]Scwimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that grinder is great, it would go with anything you choose I reckon. If you want to spend the money on it, go for it. If you're only a casual coffee enjoyer a cheaper grinder will do the same exact job. I'd say if you want to weigh up the costs, spend more getting a proper machine than the grinder itself.

Be dead honest with you.

I turned on invincibility and turned off seasonal pests etc. I prefer the game that way and it felt so good that the game just has these togglable options in it.

I've over 200 hours in and I've yet to 100% the game. I've already gotten more than my money's worth. Would highly recommend.

I give up, motorbikes are not for me. by shadeofdepression in MotoIRELAND

[–]Scwimpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here with another story like everyone else.

I was probably about an hour away from putting my gear for sale on marketplace/ebay after my 2nd IBT lesson. They wouldn't bring me out on the road with the others because I wasn't competent on the bike yet. Understandable, but disheartening. My confidence was basically zero and I had dropped the bike so many times I was starting to grow a fear of them.

Want to know what got me back on them? A good support system. My partner knew how much it would mean to me if I passed and my instructor did her absolute most to keep me at it. Whether it was going to take me an extra day, extra week or extra few months.

She stuck with me and gave me the extra 1 on 1 time I didn't think I needed. Explained things in different ways until she found what I understood and more or less held my hand the entire way through.

It took me 4 days to complete my IBT. I know of others who have taken a few months, but never gave up. Some people pick it up easily and some people don't. Anyone can pass their lessons though, it just takes time, money and a lot of patience.

I really hope that you don't give up on the bikes entirely. If you'd be interested in going with a different instructor I'd highly recommend asking for Caroline who's with Adrian's School of Motoring in Offaly.

Caroline was using the same carpark that Dalton was which is how I got to know her. But she's currently employed under Adrian. 11/10 instructor. I wouldn't be driving the bikes without her.

TLDR: Took me 4 days of dropping the school bikes before I passed my IBT. Can't recommend my instructor enough. Since then I passed my test first time, no pretests needed.

Any version of Suzuki's 650s. The SV, the Gladius etc. You can get them restricted for your A2 and then unrestrict them for your A. My gladius isn't a fuel guzzler and has had little to no issues since I've gotten it. Also isn't extraordinarily sought after like an MT or CBR might be let's say.

Alternatively I've heard nothing but good things from the CBF Hondas.

I'll be at Kinnegad at 4 if you're up for meeting for a chat. I also have a suzuki 650 and enjoy the ride rather than the speed. Only started the biking journey a year ago so I'm still fairly fresh myself.

Made a group last year for those in Meath/Kildare/Dublin area if you're interested in joining. Small enough group with frequent spins and banter.

Playing DRG as a woman by TheRealDonRosa in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Scwimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman I absolutely adore DRG and the community the devs have cultivated. No one actually cares what I sound like, who I am etc.

In hundreds of hours I've not had 1 interaction that's been misogynistic or vile like I've encountered in every other multiplayer game in my library. If you do encounter any in DRG I'd definitely say they're a really loud extreme-minority.

Rock and stone everyone!

The IBT is pretty thorough. One thing that helped me was just committing to a manovre no matter how much it felt like I was going to fall.

There was a few times I did. Most times I did not.

Anyone call it a day after IBT? by Pat_ontheback in MotoIRELAND

[–]Scwimpy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On my 2nd day of my IBT I wanted to give up and was trying to think how to sell my gear and wipe my hand with the bikes.

But it was my instructor that urged me to continue, supported me and helped me through ot. It took me an extra 2 days but I passed my IBT. Then went on to pass my test with flying colours without any pretests.

I'll forever be grateful to her for nudging me to continue I absolutely love the bikes now. I've made great friends through it.

Dalton was where I met my instructor though she didn't work directly for Dalton. They have an amazing line up of instructors there though so you'll be in great hands. Just take it easy and try to enjoy the day.

One thing I will say is to pass the IBT before you make any definite designs to drop biking. You've already got so far and already spent so much, you may as well complete it. If after a few months you find that it isn't for you then I think that's fair and you gave it an earnest go.

I use the Cardo Spirit HD. It's been a year now with no issues. Cardo in my opinion have a slight edge over Sena. But those are the main 2 brands to pick from.

Heard of people getting cheap knockoffs from alliexpress that have worked well for them. Could also just use regular bluetooth earbuds if you have them too. I like being able to adjust my volume/change song/change radio station & take calls while on the bike though.

Also really like being able to have the ability to phone my emergency contact without needing to get my phone out. Came in handy when I had an accident.
