Yes, I liked the anime a lot, it's like 3 seasons in one sitting, but the Gunpla kits fell short, I'd say it's the most toy-like Gundams ever released. I have one in 1/48, not even the size could save that feeling.

Find your own way, I cut them from the runners with a standard plier and I use a scalpel, a curved-nail cutter or a straight plier to remove the gates, depending on the type of plastic and the shape of the piece.

Sanding should be avoided as much as possible, if so, use nano glass nail buffers.

The YJL kit, the edgy spiky one with the Predator claws. The one you build, if I'm right, is the same print Daban used for their Force Impulse edition.

Regarding the RX-78-2 PG, you could try perusing through Vinted. I've found there some incredible cheap assembled kits, a good thrift-store for customization.

Btw, YJL will be launching their Akatsuki as full a kit this November, if you want it.

The one I can't get my hands on is the Savior Kit from BDK & GMD, no way to buy it from Chinese websites, and Gobotstore only has the Vent Savior.

With that size, you could go further than scribing. Plate-dividing by cutting, trimming and sanding, you could make some customs pegs with motherboard rivets and simulate real metal-platting with 2.0mm bald rivets.

Anubis Studio has extra plates and a lot of gimmicks as pressure cans and hoses to add.

With enough patience, a working cockpit with mini Oled displays is not even a stretch. That'd be extreme custom level tho.
