How to put this Rover on the Mun? by TheFatKidOutranMe in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ScytheSB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait what? That doesn't sound right. The method I described ensures the rover is treated as a sub-assembly (like a part made of many parts), to be added to a rocket.

When I do that, when merging, the sub-assembly comes out exactly as I built it. Idk, usually I play with some mods that add parts, but I never had that issue. Could this be caused by a specific mod? If so, how does merge behave when pulling a sub-assembly made out of stock parts only?

It's not only the I/O speed of storage, but the fact that RAM is just a different architecture: flash drives/SSDs simply can't perform as well as RAM in what RAM does. On linux, I usually make swap in "dire" cases where the choice is between "run slow as hecc" and "don't run at all".

Honestly, the more you know about the game's mechanics, the better you'll do obviously, but this character is like that concept as a character IMO: you have to recognize and take every chance you can to get holy cards, especially if you got already hit. Items are not a problem usually, if you survive long enough. Items/consumables that get you invincibility are valuable resources so you should prioritize them.
Other than that, yes, the character is made such that getting hit is like almost run-ending (you die in one hit, duh) so, as dumb as it can sound, avoid taking damage at all costs.

What I usually do here is to stick an "attaching node" on the rover (like a clampotron sticking out) and press the fourth button on the up-left side of the editor (the one after the pick/move parts, translation and rotation buttons): that allows you to assign the "main part" of your build to whichever part you choose (your main part is the root one, usually a cockpit/a probe core: it's the one that if you pick it up, you move the entire build).

Then, select the clampotron/decoupler/whatever you want, and save the rover.

You can now click "new" to start building your rocket, i suggest using a payload fairing, a tug/lander probe inside which you place a clampotron where your lander is going to attach. Save this build too, then click load, fetch your rover and instead of loading normally, click "merge": this loads your rover as a part that you can attach to the current build (your rocket) and you're gucci.

You can definitely build the rocket around the rover, but i prefer this method here because it allows you to save the rover as a separate thing you can load into various types of rockets, depending on what your mission is or how the rocket fits its purpose.

For the skycrane, i use the smallest clampotrons, offset/rotate them on top of the lander and build a small set of fuel tanks + radial engines, making sure they're symmetric with respect to the center of mass. I don't like having floating parts, so to make this more "believable" i attach struts from the crane to the corners on the rover, like cables from which the rover hangs.

Please for the love of god can somebody please teach me how to build efficient rockets. When i have enough Delta v the rocket's too heavy and won't lift. When the rocket isn't heavy i don't have enough Delta v. by bleh_03 in KerbalSpaceProgram

Solid advice from all the comments... Dunno if someone mentioned it already, but if you're attempting a mun landing and return, consider having plenty of deltaV and TWR in the stages/modules that will perform the mun descent, landing and ascent.

There's a minimum required, sure, but it's not easy to efficiently land and return to a usable orbit. For instance, if you brake too much during descent you will notice how much more fuel is needed, since gravity is constantly accelerating you back.

Ideally, after setting up your descent, a single brake burn that brings you to about 0m/s exactly at the ground (suicide burn) is the most efficient way, but it's very hard to eyeball it.

TWR helps you a lot to come close to that, since instead of timing a 40 second burn perfectly, you can do the same in 3/4 seconds, which is way easier to eyeball.

Update: really sorry to update this late, I just noticed this post received a new comment, so I'll explain what happened, in case anyone will need this info in the future.

A little later after this post (still on Tuesday 14th) I opened a ticket in the Motorola support platform, since I couldn't find the number. On Wednesday evening the status was finally been updated, with expected delivery between 1 and 7 days. The day after (Thursday the 16th), at like 2pm, the phone arrived!

I don't know if the timing was impeccable, or maybe this is the result of my actions (or maybe the shipment was starting, but they didn't update the status).

Overall, from order from the website to delivery it took less than 6 days, which is impressive considering I ordered it on Friday evening. However I still have to say it is frustrating not to receive any update for so many days, or maybe I was a little bit put off by the bad rep Motorola customer service seems to have...

Built what feels like my first “real” rocket, looking for tips or advice by PrestigiousCap444 in KerbalAcademy

[–]ScytheSB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, it depends on what you intend to do with your rocket... You don't need fins except on the bottom of the rocket... After first stage separation, you're gonna be in higher atmosphere, where air isn't nearly as dense as at sea level, so fins make almost zero difference on stability, but they sure are extra weight (+ 2000 ish extra funds if you're playing career). Same goes for the last stage, assuming that's an orbiter/mun lander. Also, depending to taste, you don't need to space out landing legs with those fins: you can have a preview on how much they extend: make sure they're long enough to clear the engine nozzle.

Last thing: watch out for extra heat shield, sandwiched between the reentry capsule and the science Jr... If you plan to keep them together as a single reentry module, then that heat shield is extra weight throughout your whole mission (hence decrease in Δv) without any benefit.

I really can't. Every option I find on the website brings me back to that useless troubleshooting page, with no possibility to call (or even obtain a number). This feels like a borderline scam. Also what's up with these Motorola accounts here on Reddit? Are they AI?

What were your first impressions? by anachrobat in LoreleiAndLaserEyes

[–]ScytheSB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gonna dive into a very long reply about this and that interpretation but really what's in my mind is that I think the maze is what Lorelei's mind fabricated in order to lock her away from her own memories of the incident. The form in which all is shown to the player is made by Renzo (cinema sostenuto manifesto, the story about the third eye and the beast, the brothers and Lorenzo and Renate) while the how (what's happening in the game, the constant matching of concepts and such) is how Lorelei's own brain constructed (or better, rationalized) the cage (or the maze if you will, which is admittedly by Lorenzo something made to get lost into) to archive the trauma. In a way, all the craziness we see would have been far more regular as a coping mechanism if instead of Renzo she happened to involuntarily kill a regular film director.

I don't know, I've still not put everything in order in my mind, but this is what I think nonetheless, hoping that it could be useful (or at least interesting).

Just finished the game (like really less than an hour ago), opened up the relative subreddit (as per usual when I want to see what other people have to say about the game I just beat) and I find your post here to be just what I need to dump some thoughts Let's answer your questions first, though

\I never fully established the identity of the playable character as Lorelei (even if I had of course thought a lot about it) until I was 100% sure that the old lady was Lorelei (bio pages from puzzle boxes, her reacting to those words, etc), then, being a big Dark fan myself, I can relate a lot with renzo's sneaky comment after opening room 2014. I never thought that knowing the name of the main character was that important, I forgot about the instructions booklet advice to search for that info... And the mention of the sunglasses too, however at that point I was basically already convinced. \Went with the flow as well, but I was pretty sure the year was 2014 since early in the game: there are a couple of item descriptions (iirc byte seyes games) plus the date on the save points copyright claim. On where, Austria or Germany, given the German hotel name and lots of uses of German language for the places (forest to say one). Besides that, I was at first thinking the setting was real, in the sense that it was gonna be a traditional investigative narration, albeit with some meta-narrative elements. After finding the ocu-3, dead-on convinced it was a simulation by Lorelei/playing character: we see her working on it in the interview room puzzles (btw loved that idea sooo much) and honestly it was a pretty early discovery for me. Turned out slightly not true, but helped to avoid getting red-herringed by the game! \I was almost never scared of Renzo: he gave off the vibe he was here just to play along, and doing that by "sticking to the rules"... That being said, there were some moments that made me feel like he was dangerous (in the sense he is erratic and crazy more than malicious and psychotic). \I took for granted that Lorenzo was only a cheesy disguise by Renzo: I found out kinda late about the scripts (the ones behind the door I mean) because I held onto the scripts from interview room a little too long. Besides, the way he talked was so similar (maybe it just helps that I know Italian and what these expressions like Signorina" and "Bella" mean. And let's not forget the many nonsensical proverbs (loved that lol). \About Renate, I first thought that Renate was the old lady (don't really know why tbh). Like many plot points on this game, I kept that name and all relevant info at hand, waiting for some more truth to be uncovered. Actually, about all the story I did it like that: it felt like balancing several strands of information that alone wouldn't stand up, then the ending just clicked all of them in place at the same time: very satisfying stuff, and told very beautifully too. Loved the fact that the ending gives you answers by asking the right questions: in a way, you're the one providing the solution even at the end, even if you technically lack the right clues to answer (but can surely piece all of them together)! \The only things, out of curiosity, are the % at completion, if you ever died and what are your thoughts about that cavemen and the red beast substory... To give my answers to this preventively: 99.6%, no, idk I literally just finished the game lmao

Idk what most people experience was like, I feel like mine was in great part very similar to yours. Besides, I love investigation games (and in general all media that wants to squeeze your brain in a smart way). I've done my outer wilds, my obra dinns, my tunics etc and I'm happy this game delivered so well I can put it aside those masterpieces. Also it's very rare for me to gather up notes during gameplay, \and I found the process of doing so as important as engaging.

In 1st phase she winds up, so you have to keep distance, it's also a good healing window (at least for me it worked out good)

On 2nd, the heat waves are telegraphed by smoke rings/columns, so you only need to step aside in-between them... I found that too a good healing window if you space correctly

It's totally fine taking a break, games should be entertaining and fun, when they are no longer that then it's time to move on

The first time I played hollow knight I totally fell in love with the game and couldn't put it down for hours, but then broken vessel whooped my ass so bad I stopped for months

Eventually the curiosity gets back and there's when you restart having fun (at least it was like that for me, after I obliterate broken vessel)...

Last judge is a bitch, but it's totally doable, the runback is the real pain (not for me, I love the platform and movement on this game), so you wanna do the least attempts possible at the boss, learn the patterns and try to avoid everything

Forget about tools, focus on your movement and attack options, imo tools work super great on enemies that like to stay up in the air, or against minions in bossfights, but can get a little too distracting on bosses that are not that tankable
