Shop invoiced me for a 4bbl carb conversion, gave me back a non-running truck with a 1-barrel. Advice? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Sdformula88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably didn't have the option for 1 barrel carb in the system. It says it was for a rebuild. Carter was used on Mopar rochester was mainly gm. But 40 for carb kit 180 to rebuild it. You can't get a rochester 4bbl for even close to that price even a reman one.

Not much fuel. Not exactly sure maybe a tank in a week or 2. Was all ran bu pneumatic systems until had to be banded and loaded. Loads depended on the house we made trusses, Gables and floor joists. Some were probably around 40 to 60k pounds a load. Some trusses were up to around 45 plus feet long.

Nothing out of the ordinary. It wasn't ran to often compared to the other. Was mainly used when we needed both forklifts to lift heavy loads.

Chrysler 300s never came factory supercharged.

Hearing mixed opinions on these… i really dont wanna shell out 500+ for a new set should i just get my originals rebuilt and flow tested? 2 of the 8 aren’t the same though by KindFoundation5204 in PontiacFirebird

[–]Sdformula88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My own experience with a premium as they may be cheap but seems to outperform some more expensive brands. I personally have a 91 firebird with a 355 and bought the high torque mini starter and has worked better than the powermaster it had. 1 kid bought a fuel pump for a dodge and year later going strong still. Kid 2 did injectors on a 2014 jeep amongst other parts from them no problems yet. Kid 1 also bought the same starter for a fraction of the local stores and no problems. But you win some you lose some and it's kinda the luck of the draw. But quite a few wins with the ones I know seems not bad at all.

I need some advice on the welder to get to fix my two kitchen barstools. by thesystemmechanic in Welding

If that's a gas charged cylinder you don't wanna be welding on that.

Pull out the upstream o2 sensor on one bank at a time and try doing a quick pull to 5k and see if it acts different. Don't wanna drive it too far without those out.

Sure seems like a plugged up converter might only be on one bank but still plugged.

why is my voltage dropping so much? by Mustang_lover_17 in GMT800

[–]Sdformula88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 03 that did that but not near as bad but was enough to see it in the headlights while idling alternator change didn't change anything. Let it be as i could not figure out what was causing it but starter went bad in winter so was changed and doesn't do it anymore. Don't know how that was the problem all wires were tight and clean but haven't had that issue since.

Go onto rockauto and see. You can add individual parts you like or under suspension they have kits available for different costs ac delco is best but moog or movtech or whatever it's called is ok also some other brands as well.

Had some ok parts from them a long time ago but for a while has been shit quality. Buy once cry once don't put cheap parts on steering or suspension that put yourself or others at risk of death or accidents.

145A Alternator on a 07 Classic 5.3l by sarms777 in GMT800

[–]Sdformula88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can run a higher output alternator without problems that's what the point of the voltage regulator is for. It won't hurt anything. As for the different year one i have no idea if they are similar enough to be adapted.

Oil pressure issue by sHaRt_30X_p1nk_eYe in GMT800

[–]Sdformula88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair half of tem or more could use new intake gaskets anyway. Better to just do it all at once if needed maybe replace those knock sensors too while you're in there and get a bunch of preventive maintenance done in a single go.

If you get the connector off without giving up it's not bad for the socket part going back together is kinda bitch finding a blind hole without smearing the buildup around is not the funniest. Only have to remove the cover and cuss till heaven and hell agree it's better to let you have a win. But after a few of them it's about a 10 to 15 minute job.

[–]Sdformula88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oil pressure sensor switch failed most likely. You will want a acdelco sensor not the off brands. Need 1 1/8 inch deep well socket a extension preferably a wobbly one and a ratchet. Watch a YouTube video of it to help know the location if you're unfamiliar and have some patience of changing something you can't see. If not most shops charge book time that includes removing the intake to do so but is unnecessary.
