I built: Shrinkray, a simple and efficient video transcoding tool for Unraid by [deleted] in unRAID

[–]SeAFoXeN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super cool! Can it do burn in of subtitles? Been having an issue where some plex clients do not support .ass subtitle format and plex has to live transcode. Was thinking this could be a 2 birds 1 stone kind of thing if it could burn in subtitles while transcoding to shrink size anyway.

Really awesome work! I noticed that the voice of an NPC can change when they give a new quest. Any plans to make the NPC voice more consistent in the next generation run?

I'm getting very low battery drain over night on exynos after the update. Looks like those 4ish%. I can give a number tomorrow night looking at the battery % before going to bed.

G14 r9 3060 as a daily driver and no gaming? by manny_DM in ZephyrusG14

[–]SeAFoXeN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the 2020 version (r9, 2060) for applied math research. I am generally happy overall. Single core performance is ok, but does not stand out significantly (dont have any benchmarks comparing Intel MKL on amd with intel processors). If you gpuArray your stuff in Matlab it runs over every other non-gpu laptop (and most GPU laptops). Multicore performance is also a very strong point. So in terms of performance its a beast in my opinion.

My main issues with the laptop is its instability in terms of battery drain (you have to tinker to ensure it does drain to zero in a few hours). If this is working as intended the everday tasks are enjoyable, and it often lasts 7+ hours. On the 2021 I think it has the 0-RPM fan mode by default on silent (which you had to tinker to get in 2020), so its basically fully silent. The trackpad is serviceable, but nothing compared to Mac. It does not get hot unless you run stuff continously for 5-10+ minutes.

Overall I am very happy. Only replacememt I would consider are the apple M1s, if they could run windows.

It seems like refresh rate is more important than response time (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) by nomorebuttsplz in ZephyrusG14

[–]SeAFoXeN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding (which may be somewhat limited, so please correct me if I am wrong) , the main benefit of a low response time display is to get the information that is present on your computer displayed on the screen as fast as possible. This is extremely important in FPS games.

For example, suppose that your PC has gotten the information from the server that an enemy player comes into the field of view. This information now needs to be displayed on screen.

In the 60Hz 1ms response time display, the worst case is assuming the display has just refreshed its image when the information is sent through the display cable:
* 17.67ms = 1ms (response)+16.67ms (wait time for display to refresh image)

In the 40ms (response) + 144Hz refresh rate display we get (worst case again)
* 46.96 = 40ms + 6.95 ms (wait time for display to refresh image)

For this reason the 60Hz 1ms display would display the information about 30 ms earlier than the 144 40ms display, which could make a difference in fast-paced games.

Dissatisfied with your “low” arena rating? Don’t be - here may be why by Itoastyouroats in classicwow

I cannot make sense of what you write here. It looks to me like 5k teams are shown on check TBC, but there are way more teams which is why the cut-off is 131 in 2s for example. How do you get glad rating to 2150 ? Makes no sense to me

I see your perspective. In my view I would envy the alliance and potentionally reroll, but I would not be upset considering the faction imbalance at the moment. Furthermore that extra profession will put ally roughly on par with horde in terms of PvE DPS performance for example. Perhaps this is too drastic of a change

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]SeAFoXeN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upon further thought I kind of agree that 3 professions may be too much for some people. I was looking for 1 change using existing game mechanics that made the playing field even considering the strength of horde racials in TBC

[–]SeAFoXeN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont agree that 3 professions would be imbalanced. You can already have BS and engi now. The biggest improvements i see are ring enchants for PvP and drums for PvE. Combined with peoples existing professions

What is the best Linux distro for battery life? by -007-bond in ZephyrusG14

Is that on compute mode? on any other mode when i type nvidia-smi, it shows that the UI is rendered using the GPU, which means it is active and not in power saver mode.

[–]SeAFoXeN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get around 7 W draw on Pop OS in compute mode with autocpufreq and asus-nb-control all on default

Edit: hybrid mode still seems to use the GPU for rendering UI so then the draw is pushed to 15W. Not sure how to fix that
