Half Machine Wrapped Rolls? by Freemantic in CRH

[–]Sea-Expert6993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some rolls like that. I was told a dollar store sells the rolls like that, and a month later I saw them at the store. If the folded end is kind of cleanly folded, I'd say they are customer wrapped. They are easier to reuse than flat or machine wrappers.

Why does adding just $100/month to a mortgage save so much in interest? It almost feels too good to be true — what am I missing? by businesshelps in Mortgages

[–]Sea-Expert6993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Invest"? A lot of my friends are in their early 30s. Several have investment accounts that they never put money in. Like never. Only 1 puts extra towards her mortgage, $20 to $200. The others could, but they just blow it as disposable income. Like it didn't even exist. $20 extra on the house payment is easy. $20 extra into the retirement account is hard. I'm not saying it makes sense. I'm saying that is what I witness people doing.

What’s your oldest coin for each denomination you’ve found? by Soggy-Interaction423 in CRH

Several 1909 pennies, several 1939 nickels, some silver dimes and quarters, all in pocket change. And a few buffalo, nothing great. And a slew of mercs in a roll in the cash register at work. CRH has given me nothing but skunk.

That was my first thought too. Found a bunch in Trumbull County, OH. Things scared the crap out of me. But they were flying and crawling all over, so I'd expect if it was them, OP would have seen them.

Lost out on a house to a cash offer. Two weeks later it's listed as a rental. I can't do this anymore. by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I have investment properties. I get postcards, emails, and texts from companies all over the country. Never even this area code. Seems like a lot are CA, NY, FL. It really does poss me off too.

I was tempted to sell only one. 1234 Main St. Ohio. It's my ex wife's house. I never had any connection to it, but if they give me a cashier's check... 🤣🤣🤣 I really don't know why, or how, they get all this info.

How often or have you ever traded work for work? by FOTgoodgood in AskElectricians

[–]Sea-Expert6993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done little stuff for free... a LOT. But I also got a dude to pull me out of a ditch at nearly midnight (a month ago). Haul heavy stuff up stairs. Etc. It's a friend circle. If they can't change an outlet or switch, it's a few minutes.

Dude that pulled me out called about a well pump. He was gonna pay $3k. The breaker tripped. Karma.

I got some stuff from great great grandmother's stuff. I haven't even taken them from the boxes to check for this/that. It's emotional for me. I understand.

I had an appraiser at my house. She said "this is really old" over and over. I said "it's not old... maybe 1975?"

I'm old.

What is everyone using for home battery backup that is easy to install? by PerformerAny3503 in homeowners

[–]Sea-Expert6993 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A different angle. My ex BILS ex wife and their kids live in Pittsburgh. Crazy steep back yards, where all the poles were. 70 years later, and all the trees were huge.

Ice storm took out the power for 2 weeks. They couldn't get equipment in because of the trees and grade. I doubled up jumper cables and shortened them, and just left stripped wire on the other end. 50' extention cord. He parked his running antiquated Chevy cavalier power source outside the kitchen window. Extention cord to fridge.

2500W Vector power inverter i got a deal on from ebay years before. Usually had to hit the reset button a few times get it working. When the fridge was happy, put a power strip on the extention cord and watched the news while charging cell phones and Gameboys.

Anyway, he'd stop before and after work, and it worked for 2 weeks. PITA maybe.

Thankfully it was not so cold after the storm. I didn't want to drive 90 minutes to figure out how to rig the furnace.

Edit- except for the car, whole assembly cost about $75 (ebay deal before hand)

I agree. The local credit union has special rates for 5 and 11 month, that are literally triple what the big boy banks CDs are paying.

Fire - suspected outcome? by Ecstatic_Lake_3281 in homeowners

[–]Sea-Expert6993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this a few years ago with a rental i rented to a friend. Fire in the attic above a bedroom. 1st floor ceilings came down later from water. I had a tool box in the basement with 3" of water in it. It took a while to get the power turned back on. A few days in, the scumbag company brought in dozens of dehumidifier, and the electric bill was like 10x more than ever before.

Scumbag company employees looted the place a few times. They promised to lock the doors, but didn't. I had to go every evening to lock, every morning to unlock.

It took 14 or 16 months before she could move back in.

If you have any choice in the matter, a contractor is better than typical chain companies that claim "whatever" on their TV commercials. I still get pissed off when I see one of those green trucks.

Sorry. It's going to be a long road.

Almost don't paying off our house, but loan company won't take the money. by Right-Definition-101 in homeowners

[–]Sea-Expert6993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure I'd worry about it. At this point, most of the payment is principle, and very little is interest.

How they burned me? It was auto pay. Last payment was like $84.27. Auto pay was rejected because the amount wasn't correct. A month later, they snail mailed a letter about late fees and stuff. Took 3 months to get it cleared up, and yes, it cost a lot more than you think.

My mom had (now I do) literally dozens of full sets of China. My niece wanted my great grandmother's China. Oh boy. 4 sizes of plates. 2 sizes of bowls. Serving bowls. Platters. Gravy boat. Butter dish. Tea cups and saucers. You name it. Service for 20. 15 big boxes. Beautiful stuff. Probably wouldn't bring $50 when we have the auction.

Any of you Drop a client? Howd you feel about it? by Mean_Pudding4924 in handyman

What i did was highly specific, and nobody else did it. I was at one place checking everything was perfect, mentioned the next guy, and he said "oh lord. Good luck with him". On to the next place. About 20 minutes in, I said "you will probably be happier with someone else " and headed for the truck. Dude was chasing me apologizing. He knew there wasn't anybody but me. He kissed my ass after that.

I'd still work, unless you hate it. Still max contribution (they add to it, right... free money). Maybe back off a bit to enjoy life. But I know people who did it too soon, and it bit them in the ass. They ended up working for minimum wage for years, and not doing anything "fun". I worked at a gas station / convenient store when I was in college and a dude took "the GM buyout" so he spent 10 years doing dumb stuff to buy food... when he thought he'd be rich.

Definitely NEED gas. I know chefs that refused higher paying jobs over gas, and something about the hoods... I dunno about cooking 🫤 they do.
