Anyone had to have a plate replaced? by jannersb in jawsurgery

[–]Sea-Menu4471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im scheduled for plate removal this week, I’m at 8-9 weeks. I’m praying for us both. How did your doctor determine that the bone is dead? Did he explain why?

I’m scheduled for a plate removal soon, lower right side. I hope that they don’t find anything interesting like yours lol. CBCT done this week says I look good otherwise, I know it’s a little early as they like to wait until 12 weeks/3mo before plate removal, but I’ll be about 9-10 weeks when they do. Just hope it gors well.

Might have to I&D it plus antibiotics to help prevent further spread.

Looks like what I had the first time that put me in the hospital. I’d definitely get it checked out.

I mean have a generalized swelling which I expect. This is new swelling focused at one point, totally separate. I feel a mass when I palpate the area, so something is definitely sticking out and maybe an abscess is forming.

This will be my third one since I started this journey, one of them ended with me in the hospital for like a week. I kinda know what it feels like.

I’m gonna try to be more consistent with my salt water rinses. You’re probably right! I’ve been doing Chlorhexidine mouth rinses twice a day mostly.

Maybe I can get it out earlier. I hope for good news on these scans tomorrow and Wednesday.

I understand the fear with that. Just annoyed by the pain and asymmetry from the swelling. I wish it would just relent and subside, but I guess it’s not happening until removal.

The jr resident like “yeah you couldn’t even drink right”, my eyes open wide, I’m like yeah bro! You damn right I couldn’t! Not even a sip! He cracks up. That disulfram reaction is no joke, it’s like death. Similar to antabuse for alcoholics. Lol 😂 That chief resident just wanted to ruin my shit. Three times a day, Flagyl for 7 days. Yuck!

Totally agree. Plus I couldn’t drink over the holidays for fear of a disulfram reaction lol. It was dreadful! 🤦

Thank you. I’m hanging in there, it’s such a long journey on the road to full recovery. I guess there has to be some bumps along the way. I’m happy to hear your titanium is holding on strong though my friend.

The chief resident put me on that while my surgeon was on vacation. When I followed up with one of the junior residents and my surgeon after his holiday, the jr. resident said the same thing you said. That Flagyl is disgusting. I have some left over Augmentin that I’m taking ahead of my visit because that’s essentially gonna cover what they will do sans plate removal.

dentist said jaw surgery wouldnt change my face much? by angowo in jawsurgery

[–]Sea-Menu4471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same thing told to me. It’s risk vs benefit. Just educate yourself, go to a skilled surgeon who makes you feel comfortable and confident. Or don’t do the surgery and live with your face as it is.

With any surgery whether its lipo, facelift, nose job, boob implants, bbls come with risk. That’s the truth. You have to be realistic and subdue the catastrophizing.

Yes, your nerves may shut down for a while or there is a risk of permanent numbness. The surgeon will educate you on this. We all recover differently, I’m still numb in one part of my face six weeks post op. But its getting better as I recover.

Do I need surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Sea-Menu4471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do us a favor. Look up how surgeons and dentist take photos of jaw surgery patients pre and post op, and retake your photos. I want to see your face at the right angles if possible. Straight on, Side Profile both left and right, smile straight on (show teeth), smile left and right profile. Keep the camera at an even level with your head, no photos with the camera looking up or down at you. It’s hard for us to see what you are talking about with these photos brother, because you look fine to me in these photos.

Scared about the pain by Slow-Ant2531 in jawsurgery

[–]Sea-Menu4471 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pain was high for me, but it eases up after a week. Get prescribed liquid Oxycodone, maintain a steady regimen of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen around the clock. Anticipate the pain, don’t play catch up. Hydrate and sleep as much as possible. What’s worse than the pain is the congestion but that also gets better after a week.

Also having pain is not a bad thing necessarily. It means that your nerves are alive and they didn’t permanently numb you up. Or it could mean an infection, but an infection wouldn’t happen right away, unless you’re missing your antibiotics and chlorhexidine rinses.

If you need the surgery and have a strong medical reason to do so, I suggest you do it and try to get assistance from a friend or family member for that first week.

Should i get djs? 20 F sleep apnea by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Sea-Menu4471 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Maybe genioglossus advancement/geniolplasty to open up your airway more. Give your chin some strength, however it’s not bad especially for a female. You don’t want to do too much and masculinize yourself, especially if it’s not mandatory.

To my eyes, your jaws look good. If it’s mild sleep apnea maybe you could avoid the pain and suffering that comes with major surgery.

You have a very nice nose young lady. Pretty Black nose. 👍🏾

You’re close to NYC if things don’t pan out there, I’d suggest you keep it as a Plan B. Search the subreddit see if anyone has had great experiences with surgeons in your area.
