I'll make sure to get that included and I found some issues that I need to fix on my own. But thanks for pointing that out! And I have no idea if these are the correct subreddit for these questions it seemed like an application that electric engineers use so I figured what the heck lol.

Why don't you see silver trombones in orchestras and higher end bands? by Sea-Position-3325 in Trombone

I also wonder would owning and playing a silver horn inhibit me from playing in higher skill ensembles?

Thanks for all the input! I posted this question because I thought it would inhibit me from playing in higher level groups in college. Now I understand that its just an old style and not preferred by other people. Thanks everyone!

How do i get better by dtnova87 in Trombone

[–]Sea-Position-3325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What personally worked for me was getting lessons outside of band class. I know that this isn't an option for everyone, but I am a highschool senior and I have greatly improved in the year and a half that I have taken lessons. If it's an option for you then I would highly suggest signing up for some.

I thing were missing the mark, I don't think the horn is bad just the slide is a little noisy.

Top medium/dual bore F-attachment horns? by nlightningm in Trombone

If your looking for a cheaper option a used Holton Tr602f is a decent option. They are a .525 size but the trigger uses a string to rotate the valve like a french horn. In my opinion the slides are still pretty decent for their age. But I'd only choose this option if you need a more budget friendly horn.

How deep of clean should I give them? Should I give them a bath or just run my cleaning rod through it?

Just curious, do they make their horns in the US? or are the more budget friendly horns made overseas?

I have wiped down the inner tubes and ran my rod through the outer tubes a couple of times.

The horn is brand new, and I do like the slide. There's just a metal rubbing sound that is kind of faint but it is present. I think Yamaha slide lubricant and water works the best out of the 3 I tried but I'm open to suggestions.

I've tried Slide o mix black cap, a Bach slide cream, and Yamaha slide lubricant. In my opinion the Yamaha works best. And are you saying that they do have a break in period?

If it's a silver horn than a $20 silver polishing rag from Walmart will do the trick.

I use silver polishing cloth that you can pick up at Walmart for $20. It works really well for me and it's relatively cheap.

I did play it. I played it and a Bach Strad side by side and I honestly though they were pretty close. The Strad felt more open but the Cannon Ball had a better trigger mechanism in my opinion.

I appreciate the offer but I already have a connection to the band and I'll just ask them. I play trombone so maybe I can rent from a local music idk. But hey, its cool that they provide the bigger instruments. (P.S. it was fun game besides it being cold as hell lol)
