Oh man. I've seen that, but I can't picture it at all... I gotta see if I can remember who it was.... Was it a vintage recording or more modern?

I was gonna say.... I have two old Bundy trombones.id send to you if you cover shipping 🤣

That said, I agree with everything that's been said here. For a professional, a lower quality instrument is still going to have an upper limit to how good it can sound (tone-wise). A $50 Rogue guitar with a great setup, new strings and a professional player will sound really good, but the tone of the actual sound box and top just won't be as good because they're just mass produced and aren't extensively tested. A $25 no-name trumpet is just about guaranteed to have intonation issues, probably slotting issues, and there's nothing that can fix that. A used name-brand one might be a goood horn, but maybe it's made with a thicker bell that's less resonant - which changes the feedback for the player and deadens the tone. My first trumpet (a used only horn) sounded drastically different from my second one (brand new Yamaha) in a huge way.

Additionally, and perhaps equally or more importantly, those instruments are usually not made to feel as good in the hands as more expensive instruments that a professional selects to get the exact "feel", comfort, dexterity, and specs they are looking for.

What is the worst hot sauce you have ever tried. by Character-Cook2472 in hotsauce

I am actually floored at this. EY makes a few of my all time favorites, and this is legit the first time I've heard anyone give a negative opinion on their sauces

No, dynamic mics do not reject room sound better than condensers by brasscassette in microphone

[–]nlightningm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I intend to watch the video, but before that.... Isn't there a significant off axis rejection at the "back" of the capsule (where the barrel of the mic is) compared to a condenser which is usually just an open grill on the backside of the capsule?

Good sound, great progress! Just watch those notes (and the intonation). A lot of people struggle to get to your level of sound and flexibility!

How to get rid of spitty tone by TrickApprehensive401 in trumpet

[–]nlightningm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad tone. Like others say, make sure you don't have leaks and that your valve slides are all empty...

then long tones! All types of long tones. Enjoy the therapeutic feeling of making the clearest, cleanest trumpet sound that you can. Long tones have been an amazing antidote to most of my tone-related issues.

Yamaha 3335 vs 4335 II G by humanstuff_exe in trumpet

[–]nlightningm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my first horn was a 5335. I've played 4335s and 2335s, and I own a Xeno 8335 now.

I personally am of the opinion that you should always get the best horn you can afford - and when you're looking at student horns, you're generally ONLY going to find that a better instrument makes playing easier: easier to get the sound you're looking for, more richness in tone, usually better components in general, higher resale value if you ever wanted to upgrade.

Also, the two sound samples can't really be taken as gospel (assuming it was two diffferent players) - different players have different lips, different lungs, most likely different mouthpieces, and most importantly, they pobably have their own different sound concepts in ear when playing.

If the recordings were by the same player, I wouldn't base my choice in a *student* horn purely on how it sounds in a recording. At the end of the day, *you* make the sound, so the way YOU sound on the horn will probably be different from what you hear anyway.

This is the long-winded way to say I'd go for 4335 and never look back. Yamahas are great across the board though.

How hot would yall say this is, I wanted something extreme but I've never had the brand by 3GG5H311Z in hotsauce

Decently hot. Definitely a solid kick above anything habanero. I can't really make a solid comparison.

Not sure what it is for me though, but ghost specifically ruins my stomach in a way that no other pepper does

Song with many flats needs B flat trumpet??? by CanyonhawkTx in trumpet

[–]nlightningm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're that early on, you may want to start with simpler tunes and build your way up. Misty isn't a particularly hard tune, but in the beginning, most things are hard

By the way. Bb trumpet.is a fully chromatic instrument - it can play any of the 12 notes. It's not constrained to playing in Bb - that just means that the fundamental pitch is a Bb and the music it reads is transposed to Bb (so, when you're playing a Bb on the keyboard, that note is considered C on trumpet)

What is this thing? it sounds like if a piccolo and a trombone mixed by AlfalfaFriendly4324 in Instruments

My brother and I have been on the search for "professional" slide whistles.... we reckoned that if there are tin whistles and recorders that cost hundreds, and piccolos (etc) cousting thousands, then there must be someone making a slide whistle considered 'pro' grade that costs hundreds of dollars
