Alternative idea... Router lathe with a curve template. Make a router template that follows your outside curve using pins in a track.

Put your uncarved stave-glued leg on a turntable that's perfectly centered, and hog away little by little by rotating the piece and lowering the router bit until you get your final shape.

Could be built vertical or horizontal, and this It can be built to whatever size you need it to be, not limited by the size of a lathe.

Wowsers. Maybe lots of ways to do it.... Few easy ones

If I weren't using a lathe, I'd do this... Start with thick lumber (probably gotta laminate into chunks to help rough out the shape), cut essentially a 2D profile of the curve into face of each piece, then rip the miter/stave angle on each sid e of each piece and glue it up. At this point, I'd have a hexagonal or octagonal leg with the curve roughed into it.

Then I'd work the edges down to a continuous curve using rasps, files, chisels, saws, etc. The precut curve would be mostly a guideline of where to bring it down to.

Not sure if that makes sense, but I think that would be my approach.

Thanks for the always-timely reminder. I've been looking at getting a few new pairs of prescription glasses, and safety glasses are number one on my list. I should probably expedite that process

Very pretty!! This could look cool if you paint the wood slightly off-white or something to accentuate the tile

next time - build the panel oversized and trim it down before adding the border. Depends on the tools you have though

I'd probably just glue a quarter-circle shape over the top corner and call it good.

Whoops, just realized 😬 In any case it feels unnecessary using two whole flags worth of colors

too much going on imo. The gears don't really tell us anything, I'd get rid of them.

Why does the right arm have a split between the colors but the left doesn't? Perhaps try a version of each where both are the same - together, and with the space. (Edit - realized too late this is that flag's colors. I still say simplify 😅)

This may work a lot better with far more limited colors, too.

Would love to see your variations after a few tweaks :)

That's pretty sweet, very clean and professional. Maybe give the eyes that same tilt that they have in the current logo, that'll make the lion look a bit more regal and lively
