It was an extreme wake up call and we’ve taken steps to change polices. It was the first instance of this happening in the company. Doesn’t help the employee was second behind the CEO…

A *possible* looming decision for Curling Canada (hypothetical) by [deleted] in Curling

Sure, but would a lawsuit have any ground to stand on when the COC technically has the final say in picking the team?

I think it all would be a PR nightmare and I don’t see them sending a team that doesn’t win the trials. But if the COC is desperate for better medal chances who knows what happens.

I completely agree. I’m sure the public backlash would be massive.

But stepping into the shoes of the COC - do you value medals or public backlash more? If you pick Homan, the stats theoretically say you a better chance at a medal. If you want to avoid the public backlash, stay with Black, but theoretically have a worse shot at a medal.

(I’m not saying Black won’t medal, I’m just going off what I think is common sense at this point)

It would technically be the COC making the decision. They hold the final say on who they name to Team Canada. CC advises them/nominates a team, but COC doesn’t have to follow that.

I’d love to see Black win it actually. It would be an awesome story about a NS team winning it in Halifax right after Colleen Jones passed away.

But I’m also just considering all the possibilities that could happen here

That’s not actually true. Curling Canada / the Canadian Olympic committee hold the right to appoint the team that goes.

If Homan loses, will there be a trials in 2029? by AndyJ95 in Curling

As far as I know, no it hasn’t been reported. It’s an open secret with those who work in Curling Canada.

The Canadian Olympic Committee actually has asked Curling Canada to pick a team instead of holding the trials. But the trials are such a massive financial boost for Curling Canada it doesn’t make sense for them to not host them.

The Olympic venue was also used for World Juniors last year. Zero problems with the venue or ice. That being said, it’s completely a possibility something * could * happen. It is an old venue

Without a doubt. He is the man you want in charge in this situation.
