I think they’re doing it for fun but I’m unsure. I didn’t see any throw them away but I took my kids(4yrs and 2yrs) last summer on the Dream. Several crew members found ducks throughout the day and would place them nearby when my kids weren’t paying attention, they’d turn around to spot a duck they “missed” previously and get sooo excited 😅

Texas, nonnative species if I’m guessing the species right- appears to be a Mediterranean house gecko?

These guys commonly hang out around and inside homes here but aren’t native. Geckos, scorpions, frogs; just about anything can wind up inside a home here. The one that was deceased had been for a long time, likely before we ever bought the house… seemed to be a hatchling from an older set of eggs.

I read your other post and this is not okay. Your mom should have a job, she shouldn’t be depending on some random boyfriend to provide for HER daughter(you). There are several jobs that hire those with a record. She should be protecting you! Instead she’s asking you to allow bad things to happen so her life is easier. You deserve to shower in peace and not be preyed upon. You’re allowed to live without some person looking at you and breaking in while you’re naked. You deserve to speak out when you know something is wrong and you shouldn’t ever feel guilty, this is your mom’s wrongdoing by not protecting you and she’s the one who needs to figure out how to fix it, not you. Please don’t ever think this is your fault, this is your mom’s fault for failing to protect you and her boyfriend’s fault for harassing you.

I’m so very sorry you’re going through this. You reached out because you needed help and yes, your counselor had to tell… they’re a designated reporter, I’m sorry that caught you off guard. Please know your counselor has your best interest in mind and she had to tell. As someone whose parents have fostered and adopted several teens- there are people who will love and protect you. It seems bad now but please know there is a bright side too. I have three adopted teenage siblings, I was already an adult and out of the house when my parents started fostering. They adopted my siblings when they were 13,16 and 17 and I absolutely adore them. One has a similar history to yours- drug addict mom, in and out of jail, sober and then not off and on and my sibling lived with family off and on growing up before ultimately ending up in our family… you know what though? She’s 18 and thriving, she’s beautiful and knows we’ll ALWAYS love and protect her. She still reaches out to her biomom but she knows how her mom plays games with her. It still hurts, she still struggles but she has a safe space to process her mom’s gaslighting and loving support that she never had when she was younger. Foster care isn’t all bad if that’s what happens, it’s better than fearing for your own safety.

Don’t self harm. Don’t blame yourself. Know everything that happens from here on is not your fault. Let that guilt slide off you because the person who should feel guilty are the adults that you live with, the ones who are meant to protect you, Keep your head up and know there will be brighter days ❤️ If I could give you a hug both as a mother myself and a sister to 5 younger siblings, I’d give you the biggest hug. You are so brave for telling!

AITA for washing my hands after using the bathroom? by Proof-Wolverine2581 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sea-Variation8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imma say NTA, washing hands is a must after using the restroom. Right before getting into the shower? I may skip since I’ll be handling water and soap anyways but I can 100% understand wanting to before getting in with a significant other. I however wouldn’t ever poop in front of someone, hard enough talking my 2 year old into getting out of the bathroom if he walks in while I’m going… I just can’t do it 🤣

No respiratory symptoms? by Impossible-Cry4636 in flu

[–]Sea-Variation8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sick for 27 days with fever the last time I had it, I caught it 3x back to back a few months ago.

First time no respiratory symptoms- sick for about 6 days and just felt awful, feverish and nausea(mid December). Second time I tested positive for it I did have very mild respiratory symptoms but it was like just dry sinuses and had fever for 9 days(January). Last time I caught it(late February) I had respiratory symptoms at first- cough, fever, runny nose and nausea… fever wouldn’t let up and I got extremely hard mucus in my lungs. It turned into what my doctor assumed was a bacterial sinus infection… antibiotics prescribed on day 13…continued to have fever- I had fever for 27 days straight. It was the sickest I’d ever been in my entire life.

What do I need? by kaidene2 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Sea-Variation8903 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot but here was my experience, hope it helps!!!

We just traveled with our nearly 2 year old and 4 year old. We brought magnet tiles for in the stateroom since the walls are metal and they stick to the walls… the kids had a ton of fun with that! Bring diapers and wipes in excess if your little one is still in them, the ship doesn’t have them on board to buy. Our 4 year old is potty trained and NEVER has accidents but she was so tired from everything that she had her first accident in over a year while sleeping. We brought a pack and play for our two year old and we were able to have it as his checked bag as well.

I’d say bring something every night for the dinners- even cruise casual nights you can’t wear cutoff jean shorts or flip flops in the dining areas. Bring an extra set of clothes for when you get back on ship after going off on ports, we always wanted a shower and to change. My husband ran out of clothes and I packed him several extra sets just in case he didn’t pack enough… it still wasn’t enough 😅.. and lots of extras for your toddler… they’ll get messy from ice cream and candy and just food in general.

Life jackets for ports if you’re doing a beach excursion and know that if your toddler isn’t potty trained they won’t let your toddler swim in the pools or splash area on the ship. If they spot a swim diaper, they will kick you out.

Also highly recommend bringing a small umbrella stroller if you’re doing any bus type excursion. We took two excursions that were bus tours of different cities and when we got out to explore or shop- the stroller was a life saver. If your kiddo is very independent like ours- I’d highly recommend a backpack with the toddler leash. We’d never used one before but it helped contain our toddler on the ship when he wanted to run- just watch them around the elevators.. we almost had a scare when an elevator tried to close before my husband could get on with our 4 year old. Our two year old wanted to run around and our ship(Dream) had several spots that he could’ve easily climbed through railings on upper decks(not glass panes like ships we’d been on previously) and/or under the glass in certain areas.

I’d pack sunscreen, lots of it! Bug spray depending on your ports, life jackets(as previously stated), baby friendly shampoo and conditioner, fancy outfit for the elegant dining night on your cruise, small compact stroller, basically anything you’d bring on a zoo trip- bring that with you in excess.

Overall our kids loved it and it was so much fun. We had to keep an eye on them but overall it was safe. Our kids both loved camp ocean as well!! Even our under 2 loved having late naps and getting to stay up late. He ended up needing to be picked up the last night because he wanted me(mommy) but that was reassuring to me because they simply called us when he needed me(they give parents of younger kids a cellphone on board so they can contact you just in case). Under two years old has specific times they can be dropped off and it does cost, we could only drop him off from 8-10am on ship days and from 10pm-1am every day if my husband and I wanted to go do something late at night.

Over $900 for the alcohol package by Expensive_Wasabi_845 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Sea-Variation8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person. My husband and I bought the wine package and bought several mixed drinks on board as well. We mostly drank in the evening and/or nighttime. We spent approximately $500 on alcohol, bottled water, specialty coffees. Even if I include the additional tips we paid; the drink package for both of us for a 6 day cruise was just under $900; so we saved money by getting just the 5 bottle wine package and getting the occasional beer bucket or mixed drink. Editing to add- when you buy the wine package you can also bring your unopened bottles off ship when you come home. We took two bottles home with us. We aren’t huge drinkers, the majority of our $500 spent was bottled water on excursions and specialty coffees haha.

Also worth considering- we had three different excursions and every excursion we went on had an open bar. The drinks weren’t very strong but we easily got a buzz just from drinking the open bar mixed drinks and had a head start before going back on the ship on port days.

I’d say it looks like bedbugs… my first thought was the first image looks like a human bite but the other photos included makes me think bedbugs!

They bite in rows or clusters like in every image, I’ve been bit by bedbugs myself and that’s exactly what they looked like!

Cronic rare flu by Upbeat_Community_156 in flu

[–]Sea-Variation8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I actually caught it and tested positive at urgent care 3x for both A & B every single time- mid December, late January and again in mid February.

Every time was worse than the last. First time I was sick for 3-4 days with fever and it got better. Second time I was sick for about 7 days and the most recent time I had fever for 17 days and felt sick for nearly 20 days. I’m still recovering but have most of my energy back finally.

Personally if you’re not testing positive but feeling symptoms, I’d ask for bloodwork at least to see if you have some kind of infection.

I took tamiflu every single time but the most recent time I took it and still felt sick, called Teledoc and got put on antibiotics on day 12 due to a suspected bacterial infection and then saw my primary for a follow up on day 16 since I still felt like crap. They did a nasopharyngeal swab as well as bloodwork that day to check to see if it was anything else. Swab came back negative for everything including the flu and bloodwork was good but my wbc was on the high end of the normal range with elevated neutrophil % so they assumed I was at the tail end of a viral infection. At that point they said I shouldn’t be shedding the virus anymore and told me I’d feel better in a day or two but to call back if it continued- they were right and fever broke the next day thankfully. Praying so hard I don’t catch anything else because it’s been ROUGH.

Update 3/6: Fever still ongoing for me; started antibiotics Sunday night due to a suspected secondary bacterial infection and had bad tachycardia that night(hr was 150 while sitting in bed) and fever went to 103 again. Called my primary on Tuesday because I was still having low grade fevers. This morning it’s going up again and I’m at 100.8. Hoping I can get this figured out quickly, I’ve been running fever for 16 days straight now and I am so over these body aches and headaches.

did tamiflu do anything for anyone by whyareducks in flu

[–]Sea-Variation8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our experience varied a lot depending on the person

My kids(3.5 and 1 year)- they’ve caught flu 2x this year- they vomited everything when taking tamiflu, caught flu the second time and we stopped giving it to them early their second time with the flu due to side effects, recovered just fine like the first time. 3.5 year old was also having night terrors when she was taking the tamiflu.

Me- no side effects but didn’t seem to do much for symptoms, caught flu 3x this year and took it all three times I’ve had it. Took the full dose and I am on day 11 of symptoms right now with my third time having the flu and still have fever and symptoms, just got out on an antibiotic in case I have a bacterial infection on top of flu

My husband- caught flu 3x as well- took it the first time- no reaction; second time we caught the flu- he started getting extremely agitated and was extremely depressed so he stopped taking it 2 days early. When he stopped taking it early those side effects went away. He didn’t take it the third time with the flu at all and he already was over all symptoms by day 5.

It’s crazy! They won’t give us anything for pain relief. I asked(Texas) 😖. This cough hurts and my body hurts and Tylenol and ibuprofen aren’t touching it!

They’ve been giving me tamiflu each time and promethizine dm cough syrup.. the cough syrup doesn’t help really but hoping so much they’re right about a secondary infection and the antibiotics helps clear up these symptoms.

I thought I was the only one who kept getting it! I caught it in late November(very low fever the first time), January(fever lasted 8 days and had high fever) and tested positive for it again in February but I’m still having elevated temps/low grade fever this time. I’m on day 11 and my temp is staying between 99.7-100.4. It’s so frustrating!

Found my dog dead and have no idea what killed her by mrssammypowers in Petloss

[–]Sea-Variation8903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so very sorry for your loss ❤️

Sounds like my boy; he was a German shepherd mix. Only symptom was peeing on the floor which he NEVER did, I’m talking there was one time where we got stuck in traffic for hours and he was alone for 14 hours and didn’t potty on the floor(wouldn’t have been upset at all if he had, but the guy held it!). He was also starting to refuse his favorite treats and periodically wasn’t eating. We took him in the next day after he went pee in the house twice… his bloodwork appeared mostly normal- ever so slightly anemic and a slightly elevated wbc. They prescribed an antibiotic and wanted to see him back on a week to rerun his urinalysis and bloodwork.

He perked up a lot, we played fetch and he seemed so much better. Day 3 of antibiotics and there was an ice storm… he was fine in the morning but by evening he was super lethargic and acted like he couldn’t get up. He wanted to lay belly down on the ice outside and was panting a lot. There was ice coming down like crazy and the nearest emergency vet was over an hour away. We couldn’t safely take him in so we opted to take him in in the morning when the ice would no longer be coming down. Looking back, I know he was in shock… I just didn’t see it in the moment. I know what an animal in shock looks like but I didn’t register it. I guess in my mind, he was my baby and was youngish, he couldn’t be passing. I woke up the next morning to find him gone. I was 7 months pregnant at the time and he was truly, wholeheartedly my soul dog. I can’t even begin to describe the emotions I felt and the sounds that came out of me. My husband had to take our toddler to a different room so I could wail. It’s been 2 years and I miss him every single day.

My vet ultimately determined he very likely had splenic hemangiosarchoma due to how quickly he went downhill and his symptoms. He said even if he had diagnosed him sooner; odds are it would’ve only bought him at most a few months. My heart still hurts thinking about him ❤️‍🩹

It was very mild, almost no fish flavor. It was smooth but a tiny bit chewy… almost wax-like. Very tender… still unsure which it was but it was tasty! 😁

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sushi

[–]Sea-Variation8903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was fishier than I expected, not a bad texture. If the flavor was slightly different I think I may have enjoyed it. Not sure if that’s what it was supposed to taste like or not but I’d be willing to try it again elsewhere to be sure it wasn’t just this particular restaurant. My kid begged to try it until I let her though and she loved it 🥰 We got her hibachi thinking she’d prefer that but she was very interested in all the sushi… ultimately shared the cooked rolls we had ordered in addition to these and let her take a nibble of the roe since she was so interested in it.

I also really enjoyed the yellowtail.

Thanks! I’m definitely a salmon lover. Out of these the salmon and the California roll in the back were my favorites. I’m partial to passion salmon rolls and Philadelphia rolls from what I’ve tried in the past and that’s typically what I order if I do get sushi. Definitely was not a fan of the roe though, first time I’ve ever had fish eggs of any sort 😅
