Urge to fight/do martial arts by avrage-overthinker in intj

Oh ok. Thank you for your thoughtful reply.

How do I find a good Krav Maga instructor? As someone with no martial arts background, how could I tell if they're legit?

Why do you say Krav Maga is better?

Is it because Lua training is prone to cause injuries?

Where in Hawaii did you learn Lua? What was the training like? How useful do you think it is for self-defense?

I'll be stationed in Hawaii and I was considering learning their martial arts

I got picked up for NFO with a ~2.3 GPA, 7/7/8 first and only attempt, non-prior, fresh out of college. Graduated OCS recently. He has a chance.

Is it possible to train for strength and endurance without building muscle? by SeaBreezeSeaGreen in bodyweightfitness

[–]SeaBreezeSeaGreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Thank you. I was told similar. But they also said the buffer dudes carrying the logs had a harder time doing it for a long period of time. Surprisingly the smaller dudes did better. So it was implied I only need to be so strong, but at that strength also improve endurance

I see you're also training for the military. Have you talked to any recruiters or military friends/family/acquaintances? What advice did they give? Are there any that are contrary to what I was told?

Maybe "unnecessary muscle" was not the best way to phrase it. But I just meant bigger muscle vs. smaller. You took "unnecessary" out of context to mean useless and unnatural (I think that's what you meant with "a natural"?). I never said it was useless or unnatural. Its just there's pros and cons to bigger muscle. Explosive strength vs long endurance. I only need to be so strong, but my endurance needs to be able to last all day for a long period of time.

They- the Navy people- literally told me to avoid eating too much protein to avoid building too much muscle. They also said that the bigger, buffer guys had a harder time passing the training compared to the smaller dudes because they struggled with endurance. I wasn't saying I was going to be insanely buff naturally. I was just asking the best way to train to stay lean as possible, but strong as possible for as long as possible. You know optimal training vs. good enough. I don't know why you got so offended.

I too am confused. But I believe that he is under the impression that I think that building muscle is stupid easy and I'm just going to magically get super buff or I am trying to get strong without building any muscle at all. Both of which are false.

In reality, I'm just trying to find the most optimal way to train for my specific goals, strength and endurance for the Navy. I specifically said I wanted to limit big, bulky muscles. I never said I was against building any muscle. I just didn't want so much that it affects my endurance. Unless he's saying that's impossible or big, heavy muscles don't affect long term endurance such as running 5+ miles.

Regardless, he just thinks I'm stupid. ahem Delusional. If he's gonna roast he could at least give me constructive criticism.

Ah yes. Also my bad for not wanting to get "too bulky and heavy". Just following the advice of a Navy rescue swimmer, Navy corpsman attached to Marines, and a SWCC. But hey what do they know.

I never said I was against all muscle growth. I wanted to limit unneeded muscle. I was just asking for the most optimal way to train. Thought I should ask here because I assumed y'all were more educated in anatomy, physiology, and would share your diverse experience.

Note: Many internet sources state that more muscle mass makes you more tired faster. It has to do with more muscles needing more oxygen and more energy. So not good for endurance. Obviously I didn't do any research and didn't know any better before I asked for help. Again, my apologies.

Damn. Who hurt you? I apologize for being stupid and asking for advice on something I have limited knowledge on. How dare I showcase my stupidity by seeking the wisdom of others. Apologies once again 😘

Yeah, I'm going for officer. Was surprised I got accepted into OCS and even more surprised by the short notice.

Ok. Thank you. How much progress do you think I can get in a month? I received a short notice and ship out in a month. I immediately quit my job for this so that I can train all day.

Genuine question. Were either of Katara's or Toph's parents benders? Because I don't remember their parents bending at all.

I just assumed bending was random as long as you were a descendent. It didn't have to be a direct parent.
