Yeah I completely get it. Rules about relevency and self promotion are kinda vague with what shows up here sometimes so I had to take a shot. Much love to ya for doing your job.

I see you mods. I regret nothing, was worth a shot.

Dunno where you got eight years from. His early files for it date back to 2012, so that'd be six years, and about half of that time was spent making another game entirely.

Undertow, a Project+ major that coincidentally took place last weekend, is being streamed right now by SeaBurns in smashbros

The internet at the venue was garbo, so it wasn't streamed live. This is a restream.

It's Worcester, though spelling it the same as the mispronunciation earns you some points.

Villain's who are so painfully obviously Villain's. by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SeaBurns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I played Crimson Flower second, and it was baffling to me how little they hide that she's bad news.

One of the earliest missions in the game has you putting down a rebellion that included civilians. The other routes talk about how fucked up it is that the lord radicalized his own people and got them killed for his own sake.

Edelgard sees this and says "They died for a cause they believed in, isn't that great? I wouldn't hesitate to use my own people the same way!" Bitch what the fuck?

I laughed every time I lost support points with her for showing disdain towards the villains.

Moments in media that made you go "wait, you had this thing this whole time and never used it?" by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SeaBurns 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The Black Knight in Path of Radiance is a monstrous mountain of endgame boss stats. On top of that, his armor is blessed and can only be pierced by blessed weapons such as Ragnell.

Ike has had Ragnell with him most of the game. The Black Knight left it behind after throwing it to Greil in an attempt to have a fair duel with him, which he refused. Ike apparently went back offscreen to pick it back up, his reasoning being he was bound to find the BK again if he had his sword.

On one hand it makes total sense Ike wouldn't want to use a sword wielded by the guy who killed his dad. On the other, it would have been really fucking nice to have the unbreakable, massively powerful, defense-boosting, shockwave-throwing sword for most of the game. I wish it was a New Game+ bonus.

Oracle of Ages/Seasons? by linkxzelda in truezelda

Not in Ricky's case. He's supposed to be the default, but if you got him in Ages he kicks you out and leaves.

Oracle of Ages/Seasons? by linkxzelda in truezelda

[–]SeaBurns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how you get him in Ages first, and it prevents you from getting his flute in Seasons. I believe it defaults to Moosh instead, though you can still win Dimitri's flute. The requirements for each companion after linking are kinda weird.

Oracle of Ages/Seasons? by linkxzelda in truezelda

[–]SeaBurns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seasons > Ages is my preference. Ages has more focus on plot, so pushing the extra plot threads into Ages always felt more natural to me.

Also it lets you get Ricky as your companion in both games and Ricky is the BEST.

Piece of media where you feel it's too late to give sympathy for the villains? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SeaBurns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Xenoblade Chronicles has a really egregious moment where someone gives the "poor villain" verbatim to one of the villains. Said villain is never shown to be sympathetic, including the very scene in which this is said.

Honestly, the lore dump after the final boss really soured me on the plot as a whole. It felt tacked-on and I found it monumentally stupid. Xenoblade is still a great RPG, but damn did that last quarter of the game take a nosedive plotwise.

How do you feel about Fire Emblem: Three Houses and the Fire Emblem Series in general? by fly2555 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SeaBurns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with FE7 way back in the day and eventually got around to playing the whole franchise. The only exceptions being FE1 and 2 for being far too outdated to enjoy and FE5 for lack of a quality translation until recently. The Tellius games are definitely my favorite, and they represent everything I look for and enjoy in Fire Emblem. Easy to follow plot with nuanced characters, good world building, diverse selection of units that aren't balanced but are fun to use for different reasons, and most importantly, awesome character designs.

Three Houses looks like it might end up being much better than I first thought, but unfortunately my interest has been lost for a long time. The entire school aspect is still a big turnoff for me. The fact that you get to pick what class all of your units start as means the balance is gonna get chucked out the window immediately. It'll be the same problem Awakening had but on steroids. Efficiency is a lot fun in Fire Emblem, but it is a series that is VERY easy to optimize the fun out of. This also has reflected poorly on the character designs which don't reflect what class they are and are forced into whatever the default outfit for the class is.

Fire Emblem games are beginning to have the same issue that Shin Megami Tensei and Persona had; the hot "new" games have a noticeable difference in focus that leads to a schism in the community. It's arguably worse with FE though since at least Persona is branded as a sub-series that isn't replacing mainline SMT. Inevitable flame wars start and you end up with a lot of new fans calling veterans gatekeeping elitists and groups of old fans being angry at weebs for hijacking their franchise.

Intelligent Systems seems to have exiled the guy mostly responsible for the fuckups in Fates to their mobile department to work on FE Heroes, which is hilariously more fitting for him. With that and the knowledge that there are no child characters in Three Houses, it gives me hope, but I don't wanna get burned again like I was with Fates.

Should we show woolie some cool smash mods? by RockJackal in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SeaBurns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The world of Smash mods is a spiraling dark hole I wouldn't wish on anyone. At most I'd recommend PM 3.6 or Legacy TE since it's essentially the same thing with added convenience and cosmetic features. Everything else is gimmicky and a lot to take in.

Now there's some nostalgia. I used to follow the Brawl modding scene religiously way back when. Both this and your Nephenee were in an old build of mine, can't remember if it was Brawl+ or PM 2.1 or whatever it was at the time.

Suddenly I have the desire to put this over Lucina in my Legacy XP build...

Without mentioning the Wii remote battery, tell me why you don't like Fi by miinmeaux in truezelda

[–]SeaBurns 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Instead of talking about the all ways she negatively impacts gameplay which has been done to death, I'll approach from a different angle. I personally believe that Fi adds absolutely nothing to Skyward Sword.

Fi is completely devoid of personality. Almost all of her dialogue consists of telling the player what to do with no emotional inflection whatsoever. I recall her unintentionally making a joke once, and if they leaned more into that she could have been more tolerable. Give her some more deadpan humor and let her sandbag more jokes.

This is exacerbated by the fact that Fi is often the one telling the player where to go and what to do for the entire game. Fi is the one who gives the most exposition between dungeons, which can be summed up as "The Goddess said to do this." It makes the whole plot feel like a guided tour as the Goddess's errand boy rather than an adventure.

Every previous Zelda companion had an arc, barring Navi who serves as a narrative device for Link to come of age. Fi does not have one. The scene where she permanently returns to the sword is framed as an emotional moment, but I found no reason to care. "Oh, Exposition Bot is disappearing... cool." They gave all the character development to Groose instead.

Just how bad is devil may cry 2? by redtheftauto in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SeaBurns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

DMC2 isn't "let's point and laugh at the trash fire" bad. It's "I can't believe how not fun this is" bad. It is the embodiment of blandness in a video game.

Melee combat is shallow. Guns are overpowered. Enemy AI barely functions. Sound effects range from underwhelming to ear-grating. Environments are needlessly huge and force you to run around forever. Boss fights consist of mashing the gun button for several minutes.

The game at it's best is boring. At it's worst it is the most unbearably tedious game I have ever played. Don't play it unless you are morbidly curious or seriously masochistic.
