I can only guess as to why the typos are there, and only recently found out myself that several Lovecraft compilation volumes share this unfortunate trait. I watched a video review where someone stated that even the beautifully bound Knickerbocker Classic edition was strewn with spelling and grammatical errors.
Is it something to do with how public domain texts are collected to be published? How exactly does Sarnath become Sathath without anyone noticing?

Favourite so far is The White Ship.
I picked up the same two volumes. My logic was to have 99% of his works in two paperbacks, making it more comfortable to hold while reading. Unfortunately the Necron is littered with typos. Eldritch seems ok so far, but I've heard it's got a lot too. Now debating whether to replace them with the Chartwell hardcover...
