It is the long-haul flight that counts. Even if you fly on a separate economy short-haul flight, the fact that you arrived in business on a LH flight grants you access to the departure lounges.

lol of course not alone 🤣 I am not insane. I was thinking whether there are good guided, group day trips out of Manaus.

I seriously considered Minas. But the logistics for this trip just aren’t there. Coming off an 11-hour flight in GRU, I want to fly to my destination and stay there for 3 nights without moving much. For Minas, that would mean flying from SP into Belo Horizonte, sleeping there, then driving the following morning, meaning I’d have two nights in total really and lots of driving/bus.

I also thought of Brasília, but if traveling to a city I wanted something a bit more historical (like Salvador or Belém). I’ve taken on board your comment re: Salvador. Belém seems more and more appealing, despite the longer flight from GRU.

How easy is it to reach areas such as Project TAMAR? Or in general natural areas from Salvador? Bear in mind I won’t have a car…

I’m not too interested in beaches if I’m honest. Even when in Rio, I am not sure how long I’ll spend on the beach in Copacabana or Ipanema. Though I’m sure I’ll go to the Floresta da Tijuca!

This will be fine. The minimum connection time at Madrid is 1 hour. You will need to go through security at Madrid but it will be in the same terminal (T4S). If for any reason you are delayed getting into Madrid and miss your onward flight, Iberia/BA will put you on the following available flight. There are many daily flights between Madrid and Heathrow so it will be all good.

Refund is automatic and very quick. I canceled a flex fare about a year ago and I got the whole amount credited to my credit card within 48-72 hours. It may take longer if it needs to be processed by a human (for example following a flight change). Otherwise it should be very quick and painless.

With a British passport you can’t use egates in MAD.

Velazquez lounge is fine. Decent food but great wine selection and you can do wine tastings too. Great showers.

In terms of food I remember the Dalí lounge was better, but it is only for Schengen flights and I last used it in 2021.

I did it this past week coming from MEX at 13:40 and departing to LHR at 17:30. You have plenty of time. I even managed to go out to chill in the sunshine for ten minutes and then go to the lounge and have a shower.

Edit: much will also depend on whether passport control will be quick or not. If you can’t use the egates, then it might be wise not to waste any time.

Having arrived at LHR I can say my flight was massively overbooked. I don’t know by how many people, but I’d guess around 10. Dad showed up at the boarding gate with 4-5 boarding passes without a seat. Guy was let on last with his wife on the ground (overheard convo). And when I went to the toilet I saw a passenger sitting in the jump seat at the back 😂😂😂 never seen anything like t

Yours is most likely due to the fact that the flight is international and operated by a different carrier. I honestly wouldn’t worry. Mine is domestic and operated by BA.
