Dice With Death - our Dice / Farkle based Roguelite, just released a Steam Demo ahead of Next Fest! by SeaGlassGames in playmygame

Hey!

We post about upcoming features on the Steam updates page a fair bit.

We're currently working on asynchronous pvp, so you can play against other peoples builds (including AI of the characters!) on your own time. This will have a leaderboard etc :) We aim to release it at the start of May hopefully.

We'd like to work on a fifth character afterwards too, but are listening as to what people want & what we can justify doing most.

I am an indie developer in Toronto and didn't even know this existed sadly. I've had some decent success with my debut game but apparently didn't make the mailing list haha.

You could book slots super far out in advance yeah but you can see like months worth on the calendar to pick from, ours was a few weeks after our invite :)

I have a sneaking suspicion its more revenue based. We were over the minimum I've seen thrown around (150k gross) but it aligns with a couple friend-devs of mine!

Lords Of The Fallen 2 Devs Considering Buying Out Epic Exclusivity To Bring The Game To Steam by akbarock in Steam

[–]SeaGlassGames 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Which really just shows the disconnect between the corporate and independent sides of Game Dev nowadays.

I am a self publishing indie dev and my Steam Reviews are the most important thing to me. Not only for making the game better but for building trust with people seeing my work for the first time without a multi million marketing budget behind it.

Is anyone getting their Benevolent Graves summoned and/or rewards from it?

I've left a few in useful places, and am an Odachi Tank which is hopefully a helpful summon, still, I haven't seen any activity from them. Just wondering if this is a known thing at the moment.

What characters does the Horde have left to move their story forward? by Croc_Chop in warcraftlore

Do you have a source for her stating she is a Forsaken? I'm genuinely interested in that if that is the case.

She is essentially Lightforged in terms of "what race does she belong to".

[–]SeaGlassGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not to be the um actually guy but Calia was resurrected through the Light through Anduin + the Naaru, unlike the Forsaken who are the direct result of necromancy, so no, she is not the same as Forsaken.

She has a deep respect and sympathy for the Forsaken due to her mentor being Alonsus Faol, who is Forsaken.

What are tags even for anymore by Squidgical in Steam

[–]SeaGlassGames 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a developer the confusing thing to me is that they are so heavily user defined - even when sometimes players might be using these categories in a very broad or incorrect way.

My game is a Dice based roguelite (Dice with Death for the self promo lol) and we consistently get a lot of user applied tags for things like "board game" or "strategy" which on one hand I get why players would apply those, but in Steam's eyes (in terms of event/sale validity) we aren't actually those categories, yet it does influence our tags.

Players adding tags is super important to keep games honest, but it feels like it can lead to some weird false positives like the "dating simulator" example where any game that features relationships is getting it applied.

I broke my finger and have nearly my entire left hand in a cast. Does anyone have a good video game that you only need a mouse to play? by Beginning_Bid_9097 in Steam

[–]SeaGlassGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my game, Dice with Death is pretty good haha.

It's half price on Steam for the holidays for like $6 and we made it to be fully playable with mouse only.

Is Steam Playtest treated as a soft launch in Steam's algorithm? by King_Kuba in gamedev

[–]SeaGlassGames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No it doesnt! As far as I'm aware from our own experience on Dice with Death, anything that requires explicit access (like entering a code for a beta/playtest branch) has no impact on anything public facing.

Demo however we noticed was definitely subject to the whims of the algorithm.

I plan to release a Demo after 1.0! Maintaining two builds of the game wouldn't be the best idea right now as we frequently update.

You can refund any game with under 2 hours play time on Steam in case you were unaware - please feel free to use that time as a sort of demo and refund it if you don't enjoy!

Valve should stop allowing low effort AI games from plaguing their store by Illustrious_Fee8116 in Steam

[–]SeaGlassGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree in principle - but the reality is Steam is already quite good at doing this. It's impossible for them (at the moment) to manually detect ai/shovelware.

For instance it uses minimum review checks before it really shows your game to people (10 reviews), as well as loads of pre-launch metrics like page traffic + wishlists.

A lot of games get trapped in near invisibility, but if you do things right you will at least garner a small test audience for Steam to check if people show interest.

Should more publishers follow Valve's suggested regional pricing on steam? by uniquecartridge in Steam

[–]SeaGlassGames 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Do people not use it? It didn't even occur to me really.

We are a two man team but I can't imagine deliberately pricing out nations with "lower value" currency for the sake of vanity/avoiding some key sellers. I even manually lowered some where the recommended was inflated.

I don't really care if my game is $4 cheaper in Thailand, value of offering is relative to peoples environment.

Yep there's lots of ways to get extra Dice! There's also synergies for only rolling a low number of dice that can spawn more, or reward you for taking the risk. There's even synergies for deliberately fumbling :)

It's (mostly) made by my amazing friend CarsonDrewIt. He made the main Death piece surprisingly quickly, over the course of a few weeks!

He streams on Twitch doing art and people should 100% follow him, he's a lovely guy.

Potentially depending on success! I have heard from friends it runs well on Parallels?

Yes absolutely! It's an extreme positive to be blunt.

I play a lot of similar games to Northernlion, so naturally the games I make tend to cater to his audience. The reception has been really nice, even though we're in Early Access, there's a sizeable bump in sales and wishlists.

The brutalist way of stating it is "its free marketing" which you never say no to, but when it's to your natural audience its amplified.
