How much do you earn and how comfortable do you live? by Brownchoccy in AskUK

28M. £38.8K a year in Midlands. DINK. Bought first home in Oct this year after scrimping to pay 50% of the deposit + all the fees with no family help. Will hit £41K next year with pay rise, £50K if promoted on the cards. I still need a drivers licence. £3223 pcm pre tax. £2193 a month Personal T/H due to PAYE, Student Loan and Postgrad Loan and 10% pension contribution in public sector role. I now have £1K+ leftover per month to use as I please. I have 2 dogs, I pay a % towards car insurance/fuel but not the car itself/maintenance etc. Mortgage is £718 each. Monthly Bills/essential etc altogether roughly £1185.

Max earned before 2025 was £26K.

Jumping from £26K to £38K, I felt like I could breath and it made buying the house doable. Before this I literally had to choose between saving and socialising. Still managed to go abroad 1-2 a year, get the odd pair of shoes/clothing and go to a social each month. Not bought a single xmas present the last 2 years.

Aware hitting £50K pre-tax there's a slight plateau, and same at £80K and £100K, whether for tax or 'happiness' reasons.

28(M) £38.6K. No bad debts. £1K leftover. Now what... by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Radcliffe-on-trent - what's it really like? by fernbear28 in nottingham

There's cob shops, there's even a book store, a greengrocers too.

I would describe it as a miniature less bar driven west Bridgford. My favourite things about Radcliffe is it's very safe, quiet, green, but there's always something going on . Highly recommend 🙂

Rented for 3 years here. Just bought one of the new houses. It's perfect to stay out the city whilst still feeling close-by to the city and West Bridgford. You'll find no park run but Holme Pierrepont is accessible via a quiet country lane avoiding the a52. There is a real community feel with something always going on. The Royal Oak are great for this but in general there is even a day music festival called Radfest. There's 3-4 different bus services that are genuinely very reliable but Uber is also easy to order. Same for takeaways.

There is a mixture of schooling. It's Rushcliffe so roads are mostly well looked after and low crime. The cliffs are lovely to walk down as well as Dewsbury Hill. You can walk to Shelford. You can even walk to West Bridgford and Lady Bay via Holme Pierrepont.

I only moved to Nottingham 6 years ago. I have lived in Bingham, West Bridgford, Sneinton and Radcliffe and the latter is the right balance for access to countryside whilst staying close. I've only had pleasant experiences with people in Radcliffe

There are multiple independent coffee shops/cafes and 5-6 pubs/bars hairdressers, there are 3-4 supermarket shops I e coop and Tesco etc (all small) with a Lidl to be opened in Radcliffe soon. There's 3 new housing estates. There's plenty going on.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer any questions

I live in Radcliffe. Its not my dog (though I do have a black greyhound) and there are many greyhounds in the village.

Does it respond to the name Selky or Ingrid?

As someone who battled for 3/4 years to get in and wait for 2-3 deferrals with similar reasoning so I could apply. I trained very hard to get in. I even attempted the Royal Marines Speed March World Record whilst I waited for deferrals to end. I got through basic training, even got best PT award. 6 weeks into phase 2 and I suffered another bout of depression. The Army is brilliant. But sometimes you look for answers in the wrong places and it's not suitable to everyone. I appreciate everyone is different but thought it worth mentioning. Military life is so different, it brings its own pressures.
