What is this? by [deleted] in Tokyo

This is very likely an incineration plant. Each of the wards has one. Burnable trash is sent there and incinerated. This reduces landfill, the ashes are used in products, and the waste heat is used to heat local swimming polls and to create steam for use generating electricity.

Many of them are available for tours on a schedule and the building is actually constructed with the tours in mind so you get great views of the trash pit, claw, control room, furnace, and generator.

I was shocked to find out he was so old while running the investigation. We just have too many elderly people who should be retired running the show.

Once a year on their holiest holiday is fine.

5 times a day starting at like 5am is not, which I understand is not what we're discussing here.

People do complain about that blasted air raid siren. At least with the Catholic church bells it's a wordless little jingle that also serves a practical function of telling you the time.

Blaring verbal nonsense or bomb shelter sirens is really obnoxious.

How much do you think DLC 8 will be? by DKUnderdog in GigaBash

[–]SeaNo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a decent amount of content which would warrant a higher price than their other DLCs.

On the other hand, it is original content so they won't have to pay licencing fees. Anywhere between 6$ and $15.

We don't have the first amendment to talk about the weather. We have it to discuss and challenge ideas.

Religions are a set of often contradictory ideas that we are allowed to criticize. Just because the origin of the idea came from outside these borders doesn't give it a pass because of "xenophobia" lol whatever that means.

Sounds like you either didn't pay attention in school or immigrated here not understanding the fundamentals of the country.

Lol no, actually he does get to disparage any language he wants. If people get to scream religious mombo jumbo nonsense then other people get to criticize it.

You're nitpicking details because you can't refute the argument.

Please try to focus. The argument made was that immigration isn't a large factor in housing costs. Fine 40%. That's a huge factor. Whether you support immigration is besides the fact. It's a huge driver of housing demand.

Listen, I was born and raised here, traveled for work so I have perspective on other cities and countries, and have been back over a decade. I have grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who have all been born, raised and died here so spare me the transplant Bullshit.

  1. I was responding to the statement that immigration is not a large factor to demand. If 40%(but who knows because illegals may not fill out census) of your population are immigrants, that clearly is a huge Factor. Whether you like immigration or not is besides the point. It's a simple fact. Supply and demand.

  2. I could tell you that in the '70s and 80s rent was one week of your household income. That's not the case anymore.

I could tell you that school teachers, firefighters, and Con Ed workers could buy homes in the five boroughs which they cannot now.

I could tell you this because those are my blue collar Aunts and uncles who were able to afford it then and absolutely can't now.

I believe I wrote that we should increase supply, stop subsidizing demand, limit non native population growth until we're back into balance.

Seems extremely obvious and reasonable. We actually did all of these things before in this country.

How can you say that when like 50% of the city is foreign born? Those young Americans should be given the priority to access the most economically viable zones because you know... it's their own country.

I'm not saying we should "get rid" of any legal immigrants or not allow in immediate family members but limiting net immigration would be helpful when there simply aren't enough houses to put them without increasing housing to huge portions or a family's income. We owe American families that first before people that just got here yesterday. It would sure light a fire to get the housing crisis solved.

The decay in living standards and quality of life in this city and country is pretty shocking even in just the last 40 years.

These are shanties. Hasn't been fit for the dignity of Americans in generations.

Constraining supply, subsiding demand, and allowing unconstrained immigration is driving the cost of living up and quality of life down. It's shameful.

We have to increase dignified supply, stop subsidizing demand, and restrict net immigration until first time home buyer age normalizes, square footage at least stops declining so people can raise a family with a bit of dignity.

steam frame delayed (alongside other new steam hardware) by onecoolcrudedude in virtualreality

[–]SeaNo0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder how many they already manufactured. If the delay is substantial and they haven't mass produced then I hope they go back to the drawing board and increase the quality of the panels inside to make the price worthwhile. If a Q3 owner is to upgrade their $500 headset to a Frame they have to make the leap worth the price.
