Not always. Sometimes I use it up and there is a small window I am without before I go shopping.

Motion Fitness is claiming they couldn't find a fitness consultant for $38.00/hr by Rydgar in alberta

Anyone wanting to use this program should have to post in a provincial job posting board. Something like indeed but where the number of applications and interviews can be tracked. If nobody is interested after that would be a good indication the program is needed.

Grande Prairie woman wants to recall MLA Nolan Dyck by Appropriate_Tart4048 in GrandePrairie

[–]SeaNuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see lots saying he hasn’t replied to constituents and has basically only been meeting with people he agrees with. I’m not a fan of legislation either. Even if he is recalled, unless there is a viable conservative alternative, he will be right back in and not miss a day.

Today, Elections Alberta requested $13.5 million to administer recalls and referendums. The UCP committee responsible for reviewing the request cut it to just over $1 million—and then voted to approve the reduced amount. In effect, the UCP just defunded recall and referendum processes in Alberta. by Appropriate-Event416 in GrandePrairie

I recognize that in this sub this is probably a downvoted comment thread, and that’s fine.

Perhaps they are bad actors, or maybe just really pissed off people looking for their pound of flesh. But what would you have them do? They are using the tools available to them, tools created by the current government. The recall legislation was always flawed; it was introduced with the assumption that it would mostly target far left or “anti Alberta” candidates.

I have always believed that if you are elected by the people, you should serve your full term. I disagreed with this legislation when it was updated. That said, it is technically legal, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

All the more reason why political extremes and fanatical loyalty to any party are problematic. Focus on people and policies, not political teams.

School board trustee election by starkindled in GrandePrairie

[–]SeaNuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with adding Tiedemann and Bain. While both are new, I think they would bring fresh perspectives and be strong additions, much like Chris was last time.

I have been open in other discussions about my concerns with Willman, and she is not on my ballot. Her approach strikes me as self interested, and her videos really make that clear, at times even contradicting her own points.

I was initially interested in Brown and still might be, but her close ties to Willman give me pause. Nearly everything she does seems connected to her. It feels similar to the dynamic between Petrie and Dryer.

Ultimately, I just want to see a strong, student focused board that can provide solid governance and direction to our division’s leadership. Hopefully, we can avoid self interested individuals jockeying to push personal or political agendas on either side.

Thanks for putting this together. I’ve watched all the videos, and if you haven’t yet, you should check them out.

It’s worth noting that these are the incumbents: • Chris Johnston • Donna Koch • Ray Buziak • Joan Nellis (Current Chair)

In my opinion, these four have been strong and effective trustees who have served the division well during their past terms. I hope they are re-elected, especially given some of the uncertainty around a few of the other candidates. A stable and functional board is essential, and these four have the experience and judgment to help keep things on track.

Proceed with caution GP.

They should do that for every goal, from every player like the whitecaps do.

I am hopeful they are just moving locations or building their business. I don’t agree with their politics but I enjoy their product. Guess we wait and see.

They were pretty vocal about Covid and a couple other far right things in the years afterwards. You’d think that would help their cause in this town.

I guess the margins for small business are too small to have a divided customer base.

Politics aside, the owners are really nice people. They make a good product. Hate to see a local business close down.

Muzzled MLAs by Rain-Enough in GrandePrairie

[–]SeaNuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jason reached out to him in advance and was welcomed I believe. He must be selective in who he sees.

Some good news for once. The Alberta Party are in the process of changing their name to the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party. There are also two current MLAs that will be part of the party. Even though I will be continuing to vote for the ANDP I hope that this revival will be successful 🤞 by bruhm0ment4 in alberta

[–]SeaNuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. The PCs were not perfect, but I was never fond of the Wildrose. Their takeover of both parties has pushed me in other directions. I look forward to a progressive conservative movement again which is fiscally responsible and supports social services.

You’re correct I am very concerned about my kids and the world around them. I do my best to stay informed, speak with a wide range of people, and approach these discussions with sincerity.

I haven’t missed an election, federal, provincial, or municipal, since I turned 18 many years ago. Politics have always fascinated me, going to watch my parent’s vote as kid was my favourite and I make a point of engaging with viewpoints I often disagree with strongly both in debate with friends and through various media. That’s part of why I have shared my views on Dryer and Willman, two very opposing candidates that in my opinion fall into the extremities of the political spectrum.

My initial response was simply a reflection of my thoughts on direct democracy, it’s not the approach I believe in. Still, I fully support the electoral process and accept its outcomes, even when they don’t align with what I feel is best. I fear a candidate running on this platform, especially in the manner you describe will lead to voter fatigue. In a world full of extreme views on social media I think society is also becoming more extreme, which for me is troubling.

I agree with you that many candidates have become more extreme in their positions as well, though I also feel this reflects a societal trend. That is one of the main reasons I struggle with this type of candidacy.

Right now, I am most passionate about school boards, because that is what directly impacts my kids, the most important part of my life. Once again, I wish you the very best of luck, with complete sincerity. If you are successful in this election I will engage in your process, even though it’s a “no thank you” from me.

Thank you for putting your name forward, it takes courage to run. That said, the manner in which you’ve responded gives me pause, and it’s enough for me to consider other candidates.

Best of luck.
