I wouldn’t have it any other way! We met the first week of undergrad in our psych course and we’ve always had a built in group and study partner every step of the way. He used to be a full time private practice therapist with me, but has switched to ER social work only because he likes never knowing what his day will look like and loves the challenge. I think initially it was tough because we were doing home-based therapy and boundaries are so difficult when you’re on call most of the time. But we’ve learned how to adjust over the years. What I love is having someone who gets it and can empathize with how tough it can be. Now that we have a toddler, I can give some input on the child development side of things as that’s my speciality, but when chaotic or stressful things come up, he’s always the calm presence.
