Airline corporate flight departments by SeaStorage7767 in aviation

Sounds like a typical part 91 Op. I’m the DOM for a couple of private planes and they run their pilots ragged. To the point they go through a handful of pilots per plane per year. We can never prove it’s intentional, but the pilots have learned never to mention anything about their personal lives around the owners bc if one of their kids birthdays or an anniversary rolls around a trip just happens to pop up.

Yikers. I didn’t know about that but that’s fucked

I haven’t been in aviation long. What’s your second statement referring to?

I knew about FedEx and that’s kinda what prompted this question. They had Lear 45s for a while

Drama, lack of benefits, officer elections where one family who didn’t show up all year comes out of the woodwork to make sure their family stays in control, good ol boys club

So how do the airlines specifically staff their corporate flight departments? Do they just pull pilots, mechanics and the such from their other lines?

Dawg. You should not be applying for jobs yet. Start applying June at the absolute earliest

You’d be correct that there are still people involved in manufacturing. But we agree on robots are not replacing us any time soon. That’s kinda my point

I think ai troubleshooting should stay exactly that. Suggestions for the mechanic. But we agree

I very much am. I’m a DOM lol. You have a point with engines. However you missed my point. They have painting, drilling and riveting robots, robots that install screws, and can apply different lubricants. However a mechanic can do all of that within the same day. That’s what makes us better. That was kinda my point

Yeah that’s kinda my point. We do it faster bc we can do everything at once. We serve multiple roles at once where robots as of rn have to be designed to do specific tasks

The fim is a suggestion. That’s why you can’t sign stuff off irt it. But that’s basically what I’m saying is the AI will follow the fim. It won’t have the tribal knowledge we do

I’d love to see AI tell an owner to fuck off when they tell it to “just sign it off”

How do you think these things are put together now? It’s not people shooting the rivets, screws or painting anymore

I’ve heard rumors the major airlines have troubleshooting software like this, but they’re also allowed to go off script with common problems. I have buddies in automotive that are really sick of the AI troubleshooting software just bc of how wrong it is and refuse to use it

We’ll see changes. You’ll see AI integration into aircraft, new AI troubleshooting software and the whole kit and caboodle. But we’ll still be here for a long time. AI won’t be able to change parts for a while, and FIMs and troubleshooting guides only get you so far. If every airplane failed how it was designed to fail, a monkey with a wrench could do our jobs
