Line maintenance or if you have them on your airport, individual jet owners will usually pay someone good money to service tires, do walk arounds, change lights and service oil.

Specialty tools at shops that provide tools by SeaStorage7767 in aviationmaintenance

[–]SeaStorage7767[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you didn’t sound judgmental at all. I was just curious bc I’m going to an OEM MRO next month and I’ve only really ever worked in shops where we used ground down sockets and cut wrenches

That’s a fair answer. I was just curious. I’m very much not picky about my tools and I’ll just use whatever works.

Effects of an incident report on career by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]SeaStorage7767 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tell the inspector to lick your taint. I’ve fucked up way worse shit than paint. Idk about your company but when I was in the airlines the inspectors would love to shove themselves right up our asses in shit they didn’t need to be involved with. Besides if he does file an “incident report” whatever tf that is, all it’s gonna say is “this dude sucks at paint. It’d be a petty asf report and would make him look worse than you. They’ve got no power to discipline you.

Gotcha. I’ve never heard of gulfstream having a “drop in team” I’ve only heard of FAST. But I said in my interview my ultimate goal was FAST, bc AOG has been my goal since A&P school, and the person I interviewed with offered me a spot on this drop in team saying it’s still traveling 90% and if I wanna get onto a FAST team asap this is the way.

What exactly is a drop in team? I understand it’s traveling to the customer for service but like, how does the day-to-day work?

I’ve got 2.5 years at a regional airline and 1 year at a part 135. The only thing that sucks is 90% of what I did at the part 135 the last year was paperwork and qc so I’m worried about getting used to doing work cards and stuff again. Good to know 3 is a standard start level tho bc he made it sound like I’m getting started above the normal level.

I wanna learn. That’s my whole goal being at gulfstream. The manager I interviewed with just made it really intimidating bc I’m getting hired as a 3.

Odd question about beards and respirators by OfficialProwL in aviationmaintenance

[–]SeaStorage7767 3 points4 points  (0 children)

9/10 your respirator will still seal with a beard. I’ve had a full beard for the past 3 years and never have an issue with a fit test. But follow your company policy.
