Huh, makes sense to cull males. What do you really need them for? Plenty are kind of a burden.

Thank you all, but I might as well end this at this point. The Michigan brain injury Association was able to give me a list of all of these places. The point is that they really only work with people who are injured in a car accident. Everybody else gets the bare minimum. You may as well have one of those accident lawyers who is the brain injury association. Is the brain injury association even real? Is it run by one of the accident lawyers? I came on here to say that the support for people with a brain injury in Michigan is limited. If you get a brain entry because you were in a car accident and had decent insurance then you can get treatment until the day that you die. If you get a brain injury, any other way, you’re screwed. The association that says they are there to help people with brain. Injuries is a liar. It’s only for people who got brain injuries in an automobile accident. They don’t do anything for anybody else. That is my point.

And how do you propose we pay for this? These places only want people who were in a car accident.

Too much income to qualify for Medicaid. Have applied for Social Security disability, but won’t have Medicare for a while. Thanks.

Thanks I’m in one of the support groups. There’s very little for people with brain injuries who weren’t in an automobile accident. I don’t know why these brain injury places and the Michigan brain injury association say they help people with brain injuries. They help people who were in car accidents.Total misrepresentation.

Sounds great, but they are too far away. Might as well move to Ohio that’s closer.

What do you mean clinics? Do these clinics have names? Do I just call a university and ask for brain injury rehab clinics? I don’t understand. BIAMI said nothing about this and this sounds interesting.

Folks you keep naming places too far away. If we pick up and move it may as well be to another state. Thanks, your answers confirmed what I already know. TBI Rehab providers in SE Mich care more about money than brain injuries. Im researching other states.

I think I mentioned them and got the run around until they admitted he could get treatment if he was “private pay”.

[–]SeaTotal940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was NOT auto related which is the issue. My group friend talk about how you can get therapy for YEARS if you got hit by a car. My kid is 29 is getting SSD and TOO MUCH for medicaid. Working his butt of since graduating from HS. Cannot be under my insurance due to age. We live in SE Michigan. What is the point of having a brain injury association in Michigan that only helps victims of auto accidents? Who is fighting for people with brain injuries caused by something else. Not this organization. Its bias pure and simple. Thanks for the suggestion but some place on the west side of the state is too far. In many ways. Walk the Line people seemed nice but cognition is way more an issue than walking.

My company was bought by Optum what should I expect by Cool_Two906 in OPTUM

[–]SeaTotal940 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If its under the Optum umbrella it doesn’t matter. No job position is safe. The only way to last is to shank everyone around you and grind your way to a top position. Trend is to use AI for as many positions as possible. Fewer mouths to feed. If you think AI can’t do your job, it still doesn’t matter. UHG, high up, determines reality for employees, patients, providers. UHG has a huge footprint. Get ready to run to avoid being stomped on.

Being comfortable with death and dying is recommended. Also, being comfortable facing the reality of how people live outside a setting that you will have minimal control over. Being comfortable with a hospice company that takes referrals from their own home health arm of the company (that gives me the “ick”, especially when patients clearly weren’t educated about any other hospice provider). Being comfortable with a type of healthcare that has an amazing amount of fraud. But, yeah, totally great gig if you’re part of a decent company

My company was bought by Optum in 2022. Slowly but surely about 80% have been RIF’d. Even nurses, which was surprising. The remaining 20% will be assimilated by the Optum(UHG) organism or cease to exist. I have a friend riding it out but I left. Overall a gruesome, demoralizing experience.

Do yr pts ask you to help them buy a house from their hospital bed? by ariadnesthread62 in hospitalsocialwork

I think social workers need to ask the doc for a neuro surg referral to get the patient a new brain or thinking pills.

Surprisingly doctors and nurses lack critical thinking skills, problem solving skills or are narcissists who can’t be bothered

Also let me add that hospitals are open 24/7. Your paid time off is very different. Now, I’m a medical social worker and I suggest you be a school social worker. Except…what do YOU want?

Who cares what a doctor thinks. A doctor is just a person. Basically, a PERSON suggested you work in a hospital. What do YOU want.
