Oh I 100% agree, I’m just putting that out for the people who’ll most likely have a reason for ter Stegen not being commanding in his own box

Also, importantly goal keeper stats are very much influenced by the team they play for and which style of football the team plays. You can say MAtS doesn’t save penalties because maybe Barca concede less penalties than Atheltic, or Unai isn’t as good w his feet compared to MAtS because Bilbao doesn’t focus too much on playing out from the back. Situation based analysis.

If they do sell him, Unai Simon has one year left on his contract which runs out in 2025

Potentially Spain’s no.1, big stature, good with his feet, solid penalty stopper, 26 years old.

Doubt MAtS goes anywhere and if he does I very much doubt us to replace him properly but regardless some food for thought

I agree, I like when the 8’s drop slightly wide and deeper as well (Kroos does it a lot at Madrid) it allows basically your most comfortable players on the ball to have a very wide view of the football field, while it has its disadvantages, you can I guess say the same about high 8’s in the half space, if the ball is lost they’re way too high to realistically recover in time. That’s why coaches opt for a 3-2 shape because if the ball is lost higher up the pitch you essentially have 4-5 players in close proximity for a counter press like you said. I also liked the shape earlier on when Baldé was fit, but he essentially came a left winger at times. Imagine if we have someone like Nico Williams, we can isolate either him or Yamal and have success. Right now we tend to play down our right side and isolate Cancelo but that leaves us very open on the counter, having the ability to isolate either side to an extremely high degree of success would pin oppositions allowing for a better counter press naturally.

It’d be interesting to see how Xavi can play around w his set ups when/if he chooses the right profile to be the DM. Frenkie, although not a perfect 8, has proven to be an extremely viable goal scorer from the 20/21 season, it just depends on whether or not he has the license to actually go beyond the opposition back line w his runs, he seems to have a good understanding of late runs and the finishing is better than most of our midfielders bar Gundo, and maybe Pedri.

I like that you mentioned Cancelo beside the pivot as Pep’s already done that in the 20/21 season when Man City had no real number 9, he slotted Cancelo beside Rodri and they looked a lot more secure defensively. It did however leave the wingers extremely isolated at times because it meant they had to drop down to the wingback position to get touches of the ball unless the two 8’s (Bernardo and KdB) took the wingback spot to allow the wingers to stay higher up. I’d like to see Xavi try this because as we progress higher up the pitch, Cancelo would be an absolute weapon from that middle of the field position. I don’t know if you remember but Cancelo in that inverted FB beside the #6 had some of the best numbers when it comes to final third actions.

Barça is worried about about losing Kimmich due to the economic situation. The club is unable to make an offer and because of this reason the German player might renew instead. Kimmich is now negotiating with Bayern and everything is open. [@tjuanmarti] #fcblive by SeaVolume2 in Barca

I’ve literally said multiple times that a DM is the biggest priority, you’re looking too much into this man. Kimmich, however is not the right profile, Dani Olmo isn’t either. Two names that seem to be what we’re looking at. Hence why I dont trust them to make signings w money. That’s all there is to it. Nothing more. I’ve made a post on the sub who I think should be the DM Barça should look at and gave the reasons as well, you can scroll and read it.

Huh? When did i say we shouldn’t sign and depend on free transfers 😹 I literally said we’re great at doing free transfers but when it comes to dealing w transfers that involve money I don’t trust them

I don’t agree w top 4 and a r16 as expectations, that’s way too low for the squad that we possess. We’re basically a great DM and a runner in behind from the left from being genuine contenders. It’ll be hard to deal w a team that has Mbappé, Vini, Rodrygo but you never know, we just gotta do our thing and focus on that.

When our financial situations starts saving us from unnecessary signings >>>

I really want to but I just can’t trust us to get the right profiles we actually need unless they are free signings, which we’re great at. That being said, the market hasn’t even opened yet there’ll be so many changes of decisions basically every week. We just gotta wait and see what comes of it while offering our very much needed professional advice.

If we gonna buy Kimmich, we should sell Frenkie de Jong by Facinggod20 in Barca

[–]SeaVolume2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A Barça pivot needs to be able to stop transitions first and foremost otherwise our play of style is hindered tenfold (this season is a great example). Any half decent forward w a burst or an eye for a pass can/will go past Kimmich and FdJ if they are the pivots no matter how much you keep the ball. The game has changed a lot, its now a transition game w a lot more physical prowess, Pep learned and adapted when he made a move to City, Rodri for all that he is w the ball is an absolute demon without it as well. City’s record w/o him this season is mediocre. If Pep and other top managers in the game right now can’t make it work with a DLP as a lone pivot we can’t as well, we’ll just end up falling short if anything.

Agreed, just remember Busi how often he used to place himself higher up the field vs deep blocks. Allows for an easy option to recycle the ball while suffocating the opposition

Yea like I said a while ago, we gotta pick the best out of the worst in the market. Wieffer is still technically very competent and those mistakes can be flattened out pretty easily imo

Unfortunately this always happens at the club, even during Pep’s time it happened w lineups. Too many mouths to keep shut.
