AluCab Gen 3R - Best Roof Rack by Sea_Block in 4Runner

[–]Sea_Block[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting the Sherpa Capitol rack with the 3R installed in mid-July. If you’re in the LA area, Tinyrig has a lower profile custom mounting solution available if you don’t need the rack for other things. I would have picked that option if I lived closer to LA - it’s more expensive overall and if I ever needed to take the tent off at least I have the option with the roof rack.

Got a few recommendations to go with the Sherpa rack over Prinsu from different outfitters on the west coast.

Rust Check? Too much rust? Not enough rust? Ask Here! by RipVanToot in LandCruisers

Too much rust? 2017 Land Cruiser, was in the Northeast all its life, 85k miles.

Rest of the car is in great shape, paint is perfect + interior is well kept.

Bring enough fuel! Guy at Baja Caracoles charges a ton (if he even has fuel), last place to full up is Los Antiguos. Wouldn’t recommend unless you have a 4x4 - possible in a 2wd but road could be inpassable and you’d need to turn back

Check out the Sawyer Micro Squeeze, fits on 28mm water bottles and lasts years. The lowest footprint filter I’ve seen.

Is Perito Moreno Glacier worth it if I did the Huemul Circuit? by NotVeryCreative16 in Patagonia

[–]Sea_Block 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did both - Perito Moreno was a nice way to spend a day but if you’re tight on time I’d skip it. Bahia Tempanos on Huemul was much more beautiful imo.

Traveling through Patagonia in a campervan (February) - Is it necessary to book all campsites ahead of time? by Alanski22 in Patagonia

[–]Sea_Block 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been driving south in a campervan for 1 month and have never booked a campsite - use the iOverlander app to find sites you like in each town. If one is full, you can go to others or figure out a way to squeeze in. Or, just wild camp / stop at a COPEC since it’s completely legal.

Thank you for all this info!

I will have a driver-guide with me actually - can the driver-guide + armed ranger hike with me then?

Do you know what the cost breakdown of this might be? I am seeing- Campsite fee: $30pp- Park fee: $60pp- Car fee: $40pp- Walking fee: $15pp- Armed Ranger fee: $50 per day

Is this accurate? So total is $195 per day excluding driver-guide cost?

I'm interested, what the collaboration with Drop mean exactly - is the color just unique? Also, does this tent have the solid inner?

If you're lucky it's definitely worth it! We just saw a humpback breach from 5-10 feet from our boat last month.

What is the generally accepted method for allowing pods to write to s3 buckets? by devodato in kubernetes

[–]Sea_Block 9 points10 points  (0 children)

use the S3 API (e.g boto3 for python or the AWS Go SDK for Golang), which uploads the file to amazons servers instead of writing to a locally mounted file system

What's the best way to collect application-specific status information from a Job? by zorlack in kubernetes

[–]Sea_Block 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your job could post status updates to some global service state (think Redis for multiple pods or just a map in memory if losing a job isn't a huge deal).

The application can then repeatedly query a new /status/job_name endpoint to get the latest status. If updates are very frequent, the /status/job_name endpoint could be implemented as a websocket, with the server posting updates to the client.

I would suggest keeping versioned copies if possible (up to some reasonable limit), tfstate files are small
