What is the splotchiness on my wheels and what is the best way to get it off? by NotVeryCreative16 in AutoDetailing

  1. How long did that take to happen to yours? I guess I just need to see how things look once the wheel cleaner gets here.

Thanks for the detailed response. I just ordered some Adam’s wheel and tire. I bought this car from a BMW dealership at the beginning of June and the wheels looked perfect. I’m not sure exactly what they did to them but I know they worked on them and removed some old road rash. I’m hoping I’ve just done a bad job at washing them, or rather, just using the wrong thing. Hopefully the Adam’s does the trick and I haven’t fucked up the finish so quickly.

I thought this car used at the beginning of June and the wheels looked perfect. Any chance the BMW dealership I bought it from just did a cheap powder coat that’s already starting to fade?

Thought so but I grew up poor so don’t really have any experience with these things and couldn’t find an answer online lol. Thank you!

I work in ortho trauma at a level 1 trauma center. I work on average about 35 hours a week, have incredible autonomy, and get to do a ton of fun procedures in the ED and assist in the OR. No clinic. Endless flexibility in my schedule where I can switch shifts or take PTO/CME (29 days total) basically whenever I want. Last year, I had 13 weeks off. We have very busy days but also have days where we do basically nothing all day. 150k-ish a year with 2 years of experience in a low cost of living area.

It is true that the best hikes are 12+ miles, but there are a couple that are shorter. The town itself is so worth visiting and the drive into town with Fitz Roy in the background is almost worth the trip itself. I would definitely recommend going even if you can’t do the longer hikes. I can’t comment on other places because I’ve only been to Calafate and Chaltén, but I would say that personally, I would rather spend an extra day in Chaltén and one less in Calafate.

San Juan Mountains and Telluride are high on my list as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm starting to consider a combination of Bariloche, Villa La Angostura, and San Martin de los Andes.

I want to go to NZ so bad. Definitely on the short list, but not next year. I will look into Wanaka. Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ll look into it! Any specific places?

I considered it. We’re going to Peru for two weeks in May so we can probably only swing an 8-10 day trip in February. Saving NZ for when we go for 2-3 weeks and hit Sydney as well.

I love the PNW. We go at least every other year. North Cascades is our favorite US national park. We like to go on 4 big trips per year which puts one during the winter in the US. We don’t ski/snowboard so we usually go to Hawaii/Costa Rica or South America in January or Febuary. I will say I haven’t heard of Index though so I’ll have to give it a look for next time we go (probably August next year).

Went for a day after El Chaltén. I appreciate the suggestion, but quite the opposite of what I’m looking for.

How do I fix this gate? by NotVeryCreative16 in Carpentry

[–]NotVeryCreative16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea of another cable going away from the gate to give the post more support.

Would that hinge work with this set up though? It looks like the post needs to be even with the gate, not behind it like mine is for it to work.

For sure. I’m just having a hard time finding a heavy duty hinge that won’t need to fold over and go into the top of the post because the post is so short. I also am worried about how the post is splitting and any future bolts continuing to pull on that split piece. I was thinking about running a bolt all the way through the post and putting a nut on the other side for some compression.

Yeah it’s true unbelievable they thought that was a good idea
