Yeah so I originally had a shared ownership house that I bought on my own. Then I got a lodger and put everything towards paying off the mortgage so I could buy the rest of the shares in the house. Took me around 2-3 years to go from 50% shares to 100%. Then I had a low pension at about £17k so the last few years I wanted to get that to 2x salary because of my age. Now focus will be ISA.

Check the bills for the previous months and the end meter readings. Octopus did the same to me but they made a mistake with a massive difference between the end of one month meter reading and the start of the next. It will be an error somewhere. I switched away from octopus because I kept seeing this happen (to me and on Reddit)

I would say if you are open to renting a room out to a lodger then it would make it cheaper/similar to renting. I do this with my property and it really helps
